Directors Report - Scott Hillock He thanked everyone for coming tonight. To recap marching season Owasso Contest 3 rd Place 73.55 points 1 prop used Union Contest 3 rd Place 76.45 points 5 props used OBA Exhibition good critiques no points 23 props used, no colors St. Louis-prelims 13 th Place 77.65 points 23 props used St. Louis-finals 10 th Place 72.5 points 23 props used OBA-Broken Arrow 4 th Place 86.9 points 23 props used It is the first time Jenks Band has made finals at a Super Regionals. It has been a very successful season. The work ethic and attitude of the students has been improving year after year. The band and guard are larger. The design and coordination of all of the elements of the show were good this year. Visually and musically everything was timed and coordinated well together. The goals for the year were to get back into the top six at OBA, which we did. We also closed the gap between our scores and those of the other top schools in Oklahoma. The props were very time consuming but we were able to get them used in the marching show in a good amount of time. The gates were a simple concept that worked well. We will use props in the future and we will learn from our experiences, from the weather, construction issues, etc. We try to keep one weekend free in October, but that was when we hosted OBA and it was Homecoming weekend. They asked us to host that contest and we performed the exhibition performance. We were more profitable with the concession stands than we ve been in the past as well. He would like for there to be no gap between our band and the other top bands. We were 12 points behind them in St. Louis and only 3 points behind them at OBA. It is definitely attainable. He would like to start looking at going to Grand Nationals in the future. This Saturday is NCDA and first round of OMEA auditions. We will be playing at football games throughout the rest of the season. The game this Friday is not required because of the audition the next day. The Thanksgiving game is not required as well. Page 2 of 7

We are going to do basketball games this year. The first game is not until the middle of January. Solo & Ensemble is coming up. The kid will be signing up for that at the end of November. Concert season is coming up. We have holiday concerts. The Wind Symphony is performing at the OMEA Convention in January. They are playing that Friday night of the convention at the Performing Arts Center. He hasn t put any information on the website about the spring trip yet. He wants to take these recordings seriously at these contests because he needs to use these recordings to apply for other activities that the band may participate in. The new band facility is being built. It will be ready in August. It will be a challenge for marching band season since pre-band starts in the old band room and we will need to transition to the new facility when it is finished. The NCDA schedule for Saturday is on the website. There is no bus, we do not transport students. They need to get their own ride there. Mr. Snow is looking at when he d be able to put a Jazz Band together. Information will be put on the website regarding that. Treasurer Cindy Downs Checking Account Balance = $5,575 Activity Fund Balance = $20,650 Concession Balance = $56,982 This is as of September 30, 2011. Motion made, seconded and carried to approve the Treasurer Report. Page 3 of 7

General Fundraising Kathy Skorvaga We have a lot of show shirts available. Kathy thanked all the parents that helped with props, sewed flags and eighth graders who helped. The shirts are $15 for regular sizes and $20 for extra large sizes. She has the show shirt in purple and maroon. She s working on a restaurant night with Qdoba. Student Fundraising Beth Johnson Pie orders are due, they will be delivered Nov. 18. Wreaths have been ordered and will be delivered the week of Nov. 21. Amish jam order forms are here, orders are due Nov. 18. Trip Fund - Mary Muir The trip account balance is $-2098.44 You can pay online or turn checks into Money Fridays. Guard Report Dwight Watson for Robyn Brown They had a great season. They will start Winterguard Dec. 5. They are working on their schedule and will get it on the website soon. The fee will be $150 for high school Winterguard. They haven t worked out the middle school price yet. Concessions - James Wolff We learned a lot this year. We still have playoff games to serve food at as well as basketball season. Contact Jennifer or James if you are interested in working in concessions. Publicity Becky Tiernan Nothing to report. Old Business Concert Attire The ladies should have already had the opportunity to get their dresses fitted. Please make any payments that are due for those. The tuxedos should be in to JCPenny s in about 5 weeks. Be sure and have your student s try on their older dresses if they are using one from last year. Memory Books Lai Ann stated that the Memory Books are not in yet but a memo will go out when they do come in. She started on next year s Memory Book and would like anyone with photos of this year to get them to her. New Business Marching Band - Band Directors make a great sacrifice during marching season. It takes a lot of their personal time. Dwight thanked Mr. Hillock and all of the band directors for their time this year. Dwight recognized the chaperones, prop crew, food crew, water crew, flag sewers as well as any others that helped to make our marching season a success. Dodge Truck - Dee Carter has done a great job with the Dodge Truck promotion. We will be doing it at the next home football game. They drew for a $25 gift certificate and a $50 credit for trip fund from those that helped to work this fundraiser. Bill Ludlow and David Dalton won the $25 Gift Card for Spiritwear. Melinda Jensen won the $50 credit to her student s trip account. So far they have made $850 for the band. OBA 1A-3A Contest Review - Ray Tuttle ran the contest here. Dwight thanked all those that volunteered with this event. Spiritwear - See Kathy Skorvage if you want any Spiritwear. It makes great Christmas Gifts. Page 5 of 7

Chili Supper - February 7, 2012 is the first Tuesday in February. It will be our annual Chili Supper at the Middle School. It will be a very large event this year. We are looking for volunteers to help coordinate and work this event. We need people to bring chili, desserts and fixings and have a potluck chili supper. Mr. Hillock promotes the high school band and answers questions. The 8 th graders can ask high school students questions. If you would like to help, see Dwight after the meeting or email him at baritonedad@yahoo.com. BOA - St. Louis Review - Mr. Hillock discussed that earlier. It was a fun, fast trip. It was a working trip this year. It was an exciting time. If you would like to share any of your thoughts, email Dwight at baritonedad@yahoo.com. Dixie Classic - It is the last weekend in April (Thursday through Sunday). Volunteers after the meeting - We need help to move the props for the last time to the storage shed. We need to free up the box truck for the football game this Friday. Senior Banquet - This will be in the beginning of May after we return from the spring trip. If you would like to help with this, please see Lai Ann after the meeting or email her at laiann@cox.net. This is a great time to celebrate the year with all the students and their families. Other Items Mr. Hillock will put information on the website about ordering OBA performance DVD s. If you would like to chaperone the football game this Friday at Norman, see Stacey Ludlow after the meeting. It is a voluntary game to go to. They will wear uniforms for the Holiday Parade. The students that make the Honor Bands will wear uniforms for their performances. Curtis Simmons and Kayleen Merritt have been selected to perform in the Macy s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Page 6 of 7

Next Band Parent Meeting is Jan. 3, 2012. Middle School Holiday Concert is Tuesday, December 6, 2011 at JPAC. High School Holiday Concert is Thursday, December 8, 2011 at JPAC. February Regular Band Parent Meeting will be Chili Supper at Middle School, February 7, 2012. Adjournment - Dwight Watson Motion made, seconded and passed to adjourn band parents meeting.
