Directors Report - Scott Hillock He thanked everyone for coming tonight. To recap marching season Owasso Contest 3 rd Place 73.55 points 1 prop used Union Contest 3 rd Place 76.45 points 5 props used OBA Exhibition good critiques no points 23 props used, no colors St. Louis-prelims 13 th Place 77.65 points 23 props used St. Louis-finals 10 th Place 72.5 points 23 props used OBA-Broken Arrow 4 th Place 86.9 points 23 props used It is the first time Jenks Band has made finals at a Super Regionals. It has been a very successful season. The work ethic and attitude of the students has been improving year after year. The band and guard are larger. The design and coordination of all of the elements of the show were good this year. Visually and musically everything was timed and coordinated well together. The goals for the year were to get back into the top six at OBA, which we did. We also closed the gap between our scores and those of the other top schools in Oklahoma. The props were very time consuming but we were able to get them used in the marching show in a good amount of time. The gates were a simple concept that worked well. We will use props in the future and we will learn from our experiences, from the weather, construction issues, etc. We try to keep one weekend free in October, but that was when we hosted OBA and it was Homecoming weekend. They asked us to host that contest and we performed the exhibition performance. We were more profitable with the concession stands than we ve been in the past as well. He would like for there to be no gap between our band and the other top bands. We were 12 points behind them in St. Louis and only 3 points behind them at OBA. It is definitely attainable. He would like to start looking at going to Grand Nationals in the future. This Saturday is NCDA and first round of OMEA auditions. We will be playing at football games throughout the rest of the season. The game this Friday is not required because of the audition the next day. The Thanksgiving game is not required as well. Page 2 of 7
We are going to do basketball games this year. The first game is not until the middle of January. Solo & Ensemble is coming up. The kid will be signing up for that at the end of November. Concert season is coming up. We have holiday concerts. The Wind Symphony is performing at the OMEA Convention in January. They are playing that Friday night of the convention at the Performing Arts Center. He hasn t put any information on the website about the spring trip yet. He wants to take these recordings seriously at these contests because he needs to use these recordings to apply for other activities that the band may participate in. The new band facility is being built. It will be ready in August. It will be a challenge for marching band season since pre-band starts in the old band room and we will need to transition to the new facility when it is finished. The NCDA schedule for Saturday is on the website. There is no bus, we do not transport students. They need to get their own ride there. Mr. Snow is looking at when he d be able to put a Jazz Band together. Information will be put on the website regarding that. Treasurer Cindy Downs Checking Account Balance = $5,575 Activity Fund Balance = $20,650 Concession Balance = $56,982 This is as of September 30, 2011.
