raider pride victory The spirit squad boys show North how to cheer Before every home football game si seniors, JOSH HAMMAREN, NIKO MATSAMAKIS, BOBBY LETT, JOE BENJAMIN, ZACH JOHNSON and NICK KIPPER, gather students together to get pumped up for the upcoming game. They call themselves RPV, otherwise known as Raider Pride Victory Squad. At the end of every year, the previous cheer squad chooses one junior student to lead the squad for the net school year. The new appointed leader of the squad will then find five other students at NFHS who they think will do a good job of getting everyone ecited at all the home games. U.N.I.T., the cheer squad from last year, chose me, and then I chose five other people, Kipper, the leader of the RPV squad eplained. To kick off game night, the squad hosts a tailgate in the student parking lot right before all the home varsity games. They buy pizzas and grill hot dogs while all the students hang out with their friends and get hyped up for the game. Although the members of the squad aren t allowed to paint their bodies, they still get dressed up as much as possible and wear the shirts that they had designed, ready to take on the student section at NFHS. My favorite part of being on the squad is hosting the tailgates and screaming obnoiously in the stands, Hammaren said. To all the guys on the RPV squad, it s not only about hosting tail gates and getting the students ecited for the game, it s also a huge honor. For most of them, they have seen previous cheer squads pumping up the crowd and having a great time ever since they were freshmen. I wanted to be the one leading all the cheers. I m happy to be part of the squad, Matsamakis said. It s an honor to be in charge of it since it s been going on for the past 3 years, Kipper said. 1. Sophomore JOEY GIGNAC hangs out with sophomore FARRAH MECHAEL, a new comer to North. 3. During the game students stop at the concessions stand for a snack. 4. During half time, freshmen and JACOB PROVIZER take a look at all the North merchandise that they can buy in order to support the North football team. 5. Showing their love and support for the NFHS football team, the students of North stand and cheer in the student section. 6. the other team Continuing their love of music, North students take the field order up Students volunteer to work in the stand I like working at the concessions stand beasue it s a fun way to work with your friends while being involved in the comunity, junior ANDREA KOPITZ eplains. It s fun to work in the stand because you get to see all your friends while staying dry and warm during all the games, senior KATY BRANIGAN said. I work in the concession stand because it s fun and I get voluenteer hours, junior BRODY CLARKE said. This is Clarke s second year in working in the stand. i am... A Cheerleader because of the high school eperience you get as being a cheerleader: Cheering at games, competing and meeting new people. I love the feeling of being apart of a team and that we re all just one big family. ALI DEMCHUK 12... A fan in the student section because I love going to the games with my best friends and cheering obniouiously while supporting my team. This year my new favorite noise maker to play at all the games is the vuvuzela. MEGAN MOORE 12 The members of the NFHS football team aren t the only students playing on the field during game night. Along with the team, the NFHS marching band opens every game and plays during half time. When first coming to NFHS, junior DANIELLE BRERETON wanted to continue her love for music by joining the NFHS marching band. She first saw the marching band play when her sister was in it and thought it would be an amazing eperience. To Brereton, marching band is taking what you do in class, and putting it into a visual performance for others to see. This year, Brereton was asked to be assistant drum major to senior LIAM JACKSON. Their job is to keep the band playing and to conduct them. They are the face of the band. My favorite part about being apart of the marching band is game day. Seeing all of our practice and hard work pay off, Brereton eplains. Another section of marching band is percussion. Senior ANDREW SCHACHINGER, plays the marimba and loves being apart of the band. The feeling of being apart of the entire band, just not one section, is one of the best things about marching band. Schachinger said. Marching band is a lot different than just playing in a music hall; when you re on a football field you have to make sure you that play out, it takes a lot of different techniques. This year is Schachinger s fourth year of playing an instrument.... On the flags team because I love being the youngest riffle and having a solo, its a lot of fun. I wanted to be on the team becasue I loved going to all the clinics. STEPHANEY VIETOR 10 section name page name 10 7 WICS31101R Job # 7 Odd
