Having lived in Texas after graduating from college, she hadn t realized how much she d been missing the seasons. After working in research labs at Kansas University Hospital and later Texas Tech Medical School (rats are really nice little creatures, she asserts), Connie was lucky enough to stay home and raise her children while volunteering for the Society of Young Magicians and other causes. Back in school beginning in 2006, under St. Vincent s Radiography program, Connie started her present career as radiologic technologist, where she continues taking pictures (enjoying the contact with nice human creatures). swimming and ballet. In fact, Connie herself did some synchronized swimming in college and studied ballet in Kansas City. Loved that, Connie says, continuing with ballet for the next 25 years until I couldn t look at myself in tights any more! There simply are not enough nights in the week, she laments, to do all the dancing that needs done! Contra was fun and very aerobic, and friends from there got Connie started into Lindy Hop at Fountain Square. Dave Burkhart, now fellow CDC member, was part of the Lindy Hop formation along with Connie. For a time, Connie was doing contra, tap dancing, swing dancing, and soccer - a great workout routine, then added ballroom to the list after one of the Contra dancers invited her to Continental. To learn technique, Connie joined an instructor s class taught by Michael Fatyonov at the Riviera Club, continuing with Olga Cansino, who had partnered with Michael. And now you know the rest of the story. Since 2006, Connie has been a -law and granddaughter in Charlotte, North Carolina. So proud of them all, Connie says - Very lucky to have success stories. Before dancing, Connie admits, she had time for hobbies such as gardening, movies, and soccer. She got back into skiing a couple of years ago, happy to realize she can still make it down the hill. Now a twelveyear member of Continental, Connie likes the consistency, the live music and the DJs, the dance floor, and most of all the people, whom she finds so encouraging and welcoming to newcomers. Connie loves the fact that dancing is a lifelong sport, and finds the longevity of many of our CDC members inspiring. Her near term goals? Making it through the new year, and plenty of dancing! by board member Rhoda Israelov 4
