We held zone playoffs in the Spring, Summer and Fall for two Provincial Games in the Spring and Fall. The Spring Provincial Games were held in Camrose in May and 28 participants represented our zone garnering several gold and bronze medals. The Fall Provincial Games were held in Edmonton in September and 35 participants from our zone took home a number of gold, silver and bronze medals. Congratulations to all those members who participated. Alberta 55 plus has now gone back to the traditional Winter and Summer Provincial Games in the odd numbered years with Canada 55 plus Games been held in the even numbered years. The 2019 Winter Provincial Games will be held in Cold Lake, February 28 to March 3 and the Summer Provincial Games will be held in Medicine Hat, July 4 to 7. These games will provide the qualifiers to go to the Canada 55 plus Games to be held in Kamloops, B. C. in 2020. We are trying to promote our organization to increase membership and become more active in their 55 plus years. I would like to thank all the Calgary 55 plus Directors, Coordinators and members for the many hours of volunteer work on behalf of our organization in the past year. We are always looking for members who are willing to donate some time as a director or volunteer for this organization. Don t forget that our Annual General Meeting and election of the Board of Directors will be held on March 21, 2019 at the Forest Lawn Legion, 11:00 am 2:00 pm. A light lunch will be served. MEMBERSHIP Welcome all to 2019, and what does 2019 mean, well to me it s now time for members to renew their membership. Why wait for your activity to take place do it now and be all signed up on activity day, no waiting in a line up. As of Dec 31/18 we had 9 life time members, 99 2019 members and 548 2018 members, for a total of 647. I do believe that we have the largest membership in the province, so thanks to all of you and lets every one try and bring in more new members this year. I want to thank all of the coordinators in 2018 for doing a great job with their assigned activities. A membership is $30.00 and if paying by cheque it is payable to Calgary 55 plus. Please mail to Membership Director: 507 Trafford DR NW, Calgary, AB T2K 2T2 If you require information I can be reached at 403-274-6720 or e-mail: armstby@shaw.ca See you at the activities, Yvonne VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: Calgary 55 plus is currently looking for a number of volunteers for various positions in our organization as a result of retirements after serving for a number of years. The following positions will become vacant in 2019; President, Vice President, Treasurer, Arts, Crafts and Creative Writing Coordinator. There are also several other Directorships and activity coordinator and assistant activity coordinator positions that will become available this year. Volunteering for Calgary 55 plus gives one a sense of belonging to a group whose mandate is to encourage, promote and develop recreational and cultural opportunities for members 55 years of age and older. Remember: There will always be experienced Directors and Coordinators to assist the new volunteers. If you are interested in any of these positions, please contact: Yvonne Armstrong at (403) 274-6720 Volunteer Luncheon and Lifetime Members: On October 24th, 2018 a Volunteer Lunch was held at the Fox Hollow Golf Course as a thank you to the many volunteers who contribute hours of their time supporting the activities of the Calgary 55 plus organization.
