JACKSON COUNTY YOUNG FARMERS SHOWRING SHOWDOWN SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship Contact: Mr. Michael Cronic 551 Jesse Cronic Road Braselton, GA 30517 SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM The Jackson County Young Farmers is offering two $500 scholarships to high school seniors who have been actively involved in the Georgia junior livestock program. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has shown beef or swine. One scholarship will be awarded to a senior exhibitor of each species during senior showmanship. Purpose: To recognize hard-working, dedicated young people who are pursuing their education after high school graduation To assist students who embody the standards of excellence demonstrated through 4-H and FFA projects To encourage leadership development through livestock and other youth projects To foster an awareness of the importance of agriculture and to encourage an appreciation of the values and opportunities of rural life Eligibility: Applicant must be an exhibitor in the JCYF Showring Showdown Applicant must be a high school senior Applicant must be planning on attending a secondary school following graduation from high school including college, technical and trade schools Requirements: Applicant must submit a typed essay of 500 words or less describing the benefits you received from exhibiting livestock, the effect that experience had on your life, how it may have influenced your career choice, and how you plan to give back to the junior livestock industry or be involved with the Georgia Junior Livestock Foundation Applicant must submit one letter of reference from teachers, advisors or cooperative extension agents Applicant must submit a letter from their high school that they are in good academic standing (do not send your transcript) Winning Recipients must use the scholarship money for tuition, room and board, textbooks and supplies or other education-related expenses Recipients must send a written thank you note to the Jackson County Young Farmers Association JACKSON COUNTY YOUNG FARMERS SHOWRING SHOWDOWN SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION Sponsored by: Jackson County Young Farmers

JACKSON COUNTY YOUNG FARMER SHOWRING SHOWDOWN HOG AND CATTLE SHOWS December 14-16, 2018 Georgia National Fairgrounds Perry, GA ***GENERAL SHOW RULES AND INFORMATION*** CHECK IN: Saturday, December 15, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. JUNIOR JUDGING CONTEST: Exhibitors will have the opportunity to participate in a Livestock Judging Contest on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Any student wishing to participate in the Showring Showdown Judging Contest will need to sign-up for this event by 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in the Hog Show Arena. The contest will consist of 5-6 classes of cattle, hogs and sheep. Junior contestants will be required to answer one set of questions and senior contestants will answer two sets of questions. There will be no reasons. The contest will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in the Hog Show Arena. There is a $5 entry for each contestant that will be collected at sign-up. Awards will be awarded. *New Adult Division will be added at $5 a participants and will be ran in conjunction with the Jr. and Sr. Contest* SUNDAY SCHOOL AND AWARDS: Sunday School will take place at 7:30 a.m. in the Hog Show Arena on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Livestock Judging Awards will be presented following Sunday School. SHOWMANSHIP: Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. for hog exhibitors and 5:00 p.m. for cattle exhibitors. Jackpot awards provided to Division Champions. Community Service Opportunity Partnering with Perry Volunteer Outreach, the JCYF Showring Showdown is offering our exhibitors the opportunity to give back. PVO is a faith based organization that is a non-profit charity established in 2000 to assist those in Perry and south Houston County, Georgia area with emergency financial assistance for housing, utilities, and medical needs. Parked between the cattle and hog barns will be a Georgia National Fair Champion trailer that we hope to fill with new, unwrapped toys. We sincerely hope that you will take part in the opportunity to make sure that children in Houston County and surrounding counties will have a merrier Christmas. All donations should be placed in the trailer before the beginning of showmanship on Saturday Dec. 15, 2018.

Any exhibitor 21 years of age or under is eligible to show. 2. All swine must be blood tested PRV and Brucellosis negative within 30 days of the show and have an official health certificate. All out-of-state swine must have a prior permit number on the health certificate. Please be timely in bleeding your hogs to facilitate the return of your health certificate prior to show date (GA diagnostic vet lab closes for Christmas holidays). 3. Entries are open to the world. Market barrows, market gilts, purebred gilts, and purebred barrows are eligible. No boars! Market hogs will not be shown by breed or sex. Market barrows and market gilts will be shown together by weight. Purebred gilts with registration certificates will be shown by breed (Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace and Yorkshires). Purebred gilts with registration papers will be shown by breed by age. Purebred barrows with registration certificates will be shown by weight. 4. The barn will open at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018 and 8:00 a.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018. All market hogs and purebred barrows must be weighed and registered gilts must be checked in from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. 5. There is no limit to the number of entries per exhibitor. 6. Prize money will be paid to the first five places in each weight class. Contingent on number of entries, proposed payouts will be 1 st - $40, 2 nd - $35, 3 rd - $30, 4 th - $25, 5 th - $20. 7. All entries must be postmarked by November 26, 2018. The entry fee is $30.00 per pig. A late fee of $20.00 per head cash will be required after this date and will be collected at check-in. The committee reserves the right to refund money to entries if the number of entries exceeds pen space. All entries should

be mailed to Josh Whitworth, P.O. Box 38, Commerce, GA 30529. Entry fees cannot be switched from one exhibitor to another. THE LATE FEE WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED AND NO REFUNDS WILL BE GIVEN. 8. Pigs do not have to be entered in the State Market Hog Show to enter this show. 9. Market Hog Show: Divisions in the market hog show will be divided evenly among the classes, as far as possible. Division winners will compete for Grand Champion honors. The judge will select Grand and Reserve Champions, then will rank the next eight hogs to allow for proper distribution of premium monies. All market hog entries must have a clean, readable ear tag in place. Pigs must be tagged before check in. 10. Purebred Shows: All purebred gilts and barrows must be registered Duroc, Hampshire, Landrace or Yorkshire with a proper registration certificate from the National Swine Registry for their respective breed. Purebred entries must show the exhibitor s name or exhibitor s family farm as the current owner on the registration paper. Purebred animals do not have to have ear tags but must be ear notched according to their registration certificate. Entries must be farrowed on or after June 1, 2018. A minimum of 6 head will be required to hold a breed show. 11. Showmanship: Showmanship will begin at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 15, 2018. Exhibitors must pay a $10.00 entry fee for the showmanship jackpot. Classes will be broken by the exhibitors birthday. Showmanship will be shown from youngest to oldest and broken according to the number of entries. Prize money for showmanship will be strictly a jackpot prize of money collected per showmanship division. 12. The rules committee reserves the right to interpret all rules. Decision of the judge and the rules committee will be final. 13. Weighing and Weigh Back: Exhibitors will be required to turn in weigh cards declaring the weight of each market entry. Official scales will be located in the barn and exhibitors will be responsible for weighing and turning in the weights of their particular entries. If an exhibitor wins a class or is 2 nd place, they will be reweighed and must be within 5% of the weight that is on the exhibitor s weight card. If an exhibitor weighs out, the 3 rd place animal will be moved up and weighed. If necessary, this will continue until two exhibitors have weighed within 5% of their recorded show weight. Once an exhibitor s entry has been reweighed from class, there will be no further weigh backs for that particular entry. Any issues regarding the scales or the weighing process must be brought to the show officials prior to check-in ending, after that time no issues regarding the weighing process will be addressed.

***CATTLE SHOW RULES AND INFORMATION*** CATTLE SHOW JUDGE: Dave Guyer, Illinois HEIFER SHOW: Sunday, December 16, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Champion Heifer - $1000.00 Reserve Champion Heifer - $500.00 3rd High Overall Heifer - $250.00 MARKET HEIFER SHOW: Sunday, December 16, 2018 immediately following the heifer show. STEER SHOW: Sunday, December 16, 2018 immediately following the market heifer show. Champion Market Animal - $1000.00 Reserve Champion Market Animal - $500.00 3rd High Overall Market Animal - $250.00 1. Age- All heifers must be born January 1, 2017 and after. It is recommended that steers are born August 1, 2017 and after. 2. Health- Valid health papers are required and will be checked upon arrival. 3. Entries are open to the world. Market steer, market heifer and heifer show. Market steers and market heifers will be shown by weight. Purebred heifers with registration certificates will be shown by breed by age. Commercial heifers without registration papers will be shown by weight. 4. The barn will open at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 14, 2018. All steers and heifers must be checked in from 9 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. that same day. 5. There is no limit to the number of entries per exhibitor. 6. Prize money in class will be awarded to the top three and the top three in each breed will be awarded. 7. All entries must be postmarked by November 26, 2018. The entry fee is $30.00 per head. A late fee of $20.00 per head cash will be required after this date and will be collected at check-in. The committee reserves the right to refund money to entries if the number of entries exceeds. A peewee showmanship will be available as well during the showmanship portion of the show. 10. Steer Show: All steers will be weighed and classified by show committee members. Steer classifications will be American, British, Continental and Exotic. A top 3 will be named from each breed and will be eligible to return to the supreme market animal drive.

11. Market Heifer Show: All market heifers will be shown by weight and a top 3 will be named and will be eligible to compete in the supreme market animal drive. Market heifers can also compete in the commercial heifer show but an additional entry fee will be assessed. 12. Heifer Show: Heifers will be shown according to breed and should have valid registration papers. The show will require there to be a minimum of 5 heifers to constitute a breed, otherwise they will be placed into the AOB category. A top three in each breed will be named and will be eligible to return to for the supreme heifer drive.
