Carusmatic Jumped outwards at the start causing crowding to Future Road, Miss Vixen and Windsor. Windsor Checked severely at the start. Checked severely near the 900m and then shifted in abruptly to avoid the heels of Outboard Motors which had shifted in across the heels of Royal Disguise in an effort to gain a trail position behind Miss Vixen. Miss Vixen Checked severely at the start. Future Road Checked at the start. Miss Wahoo Slow to begin.
Royal Disguise Shifted in at the start after receiving contact to the hindquarters from Windsor as a result of pressure from the inside coming out. Oscietra Rider Luke Nolen reported that he was satisfied with the fillys performance bearing in mind that it was her first start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Outboard Motors Rider Craig Williams was reprimanded for permitting his mount to shift in near the 900 causing interference to Windsor. At arriving at this decision Stewards weighed heavily on the fact that the filly was having its first race start and did race greenly throughout the race. Race 2 Straight Draw Handicap - 2000 metres: Goldstream (ITY) Which had been fractious in its preliminary and pulled hard to the start underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was passed suitable to race. Desert Jeuney Raced ungenerously with its head up in the early and middle stages. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Rider Michael Walker was examined after the race by the Club Doctor who reported that he was unfit to fulfil his remaining engagement after receiving a bump to the head during the race. Tooleybuc Kid Performance queried. Rider Dean Yendall stated the gelding failed to respond to his riding and in his opinion had lost the zest for racing. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Flying Light Rider Apprentice Regan Bayliss was fined $300 for breaching the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on seven occasions prior to the 100m, which is two more than permitted. In assessing penalty the Stewards took into account the amount of whip use inside the final 100m. He was also severely reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m. Race 3 byron moore handicap - 1600 metres: Siga La Vaca Slow to begin. Praecereus (NZ) Approaching the 1200m had to be checked severely when overracing to avoid the heels of Crocodile Rock (IRE) and in doing so shifted in inconveniencing Stone Warrior (NZ). Rider Brad Rawiller accidentally dropped his whip near the 75m. Stone Warrior (NZ) Inconvenienced when placed in restricted room passing the 1200m. Dane Thunder Raced wide without cover from the 1200m. Ruary Mac Raced wide without cover. When questioned regarding tactics today given the gelding raced more forward than at its previous start Cory Parish explained that having ridden
the horse on both occasions his instructions were the same that being to be in the first five or six. He further added that the gelding got further back than planned at Kyneton on 23 December 2016 after negotiating the crossing awkwardly in the early stages of that particular race. He explained today that his mount jumped quite well, was caught very wide, was unable to get cover without causing interference and therefore he elected to go forward. Lunar Spin Rider Craig Williams could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Race 4 nouvelle star handicap - 1000 metres: Shemai (NZ) It was announced prior to Race One that the tactics would be for the mare to be ridden more forward today after previously jumping away awkwardly. Settled just behind the leaders. Trinity Hill (NZ) Became cast in the barriers and was then loose behind the barriers before being recaptured. As a result the start of the race was delayed. Withdrawn by Stewards at 3.21pm. All monies bet for a win and/or place and concession betting on the late scratching to be refunded. Rider Ben Allen reported that in his opinion the mare may not appreciate racing down the straight and may be better suited around the turn. Little Indian Near the 300m had to be checked to avoid the heels of Magna Rossa when endeavouring to shift out to obtain clear running. Race 5 red tempo handicap - 1400 metres: I Am Wanted - Stewards accepted the explanation of trainer Trevor Andrews as to why the horse was not presented on course by the prescribed time. Tycoon Felix Rider Craig Newitt reported that his mount was awkward to begin. Deja Blue When weakening near the 200m had to be steadied when placed in restricted room between Rocknrollrock and Lotza Focus which shifted out slightly under pressure. Rider Ben Thompson could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Portman (NZ) Rider Craig Williams explained that there was no prerace intention to take up a forward position today given at its previous starts where the gelding has been slow to begin. However after jumping well he was caught wide and therefore made the decision to go forward. Red Alto - Unable to improve its position from the 400m until the 200m when unable to obtain clear running before making ground over the concluding stages. Secret Prophet (NZ) - Cast its off fore plate in running. Race 6 standish handicap - 1200 metres: Inspector Inconvenienced at the start after being bumped by Divine Mr Artie which jumped in. Domesday Warrior Cast its off fore plate in running. Rough Justice Rider Damian Lane stated that the gelding may have come to the end of its preparation. Odyssey Moon Trainer Robert Smerdon was questioned regarding the apparent improved performance as opposed to the horses first up run at Flemington 17 December 2016 where it finished last. He explained that the horse benefited in fitness being first up from a long spell
and that the horse didnt appreciate interference early in that race being placed in tight room for some distance, particularly being a stallion. He added today the horse drew a good barrier, obtained plenty of racing room and ultimately was able to lead given the slow early speed and confirmed that it was not any intention pre race to lead but they were the circumstances given the way the race unfolded. The Stewards noted the sectional times first 600m was run in 36.86 as opposed to the final 600m in 33.52. Lonrockstar Rider Luke Nolen was questioned regarding his ride and he explained that his instructions were to ride his mount quietly and endeavour to weave through the field as the gelding will not perform if exposed too early without any cover. He added that at various stages he had difficulty obtaining clear runs and that his mounts chances were not suited by the slow tempo in the first half of the race. His explanation was noted. Race 7 bagot handicap - 2800 metres: Sly Romance (NZ) Acting on a phone call from trainer Richard Laming advising that the gelding was lame, Stewards ordered the withdrawal of Sly Romance (NZ) at 12.35pm Cinnamon Carter Connections advised it was intended for the mare to be ridden forward with an apparent lack of pace in the race. Led by a big margin and weakened in the straight. Tunes Turned its head just prior to the start being effected subsequently being slow to begin and from the wide draw settled at the rear of the field. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Arianne Shifted out abruptly passing the 200m inconveniencing Anemoi by taking that horse out off its course. Anemoi Hampered near the 200m after being taken out off its course by another runner. Hes A Genius (NZ) Raced wide without cover. Lord Van Percy (GB) Rider Luke Nolen could offer no explanation for the performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Annus Mirabilis (IRE) Rider Regan Bayliss was fined $500 for breaching the provisions of AR137A(5)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on nine occasions prior to the 100m. Race 8 summer racing handicap - 1600 metres: Sanaya Connections advised it was their intention to have the mare ridden further back with cover from the wide gate. Jumped awkwardly and settled at the rear of the field. Had difficulty in obtaining clear running after passing the 400m until approaching the 200m. La Speciale Jumped away awkwardly making contact with the hindquarters of Loveitt.

Lopartega Rider Dwayne Dunn could offer no explanation other than the connections had indicated that the mare was quite difficult to saddle up today which was quite uncharacteristic.
