FISH BITES The Marlins finish up a three-game series in the midst of this six-game homestand with game three against San Francisco today at 12:10 p.m. Right-hander David Phelps is making his second career start and third appearance against the Giants, going 1-0 with a 1.29 ERA. He will be opposed by RHP Jeff Samardzija, who in 16 career appearances (seven starts) against the Fish has gone 4-1 with a 3.81 ERA. Today's national anthem will be performed by Gianna Conte and the ceremonial first pitch will be thrown by Sheryl Woods. Following this afternoon's tilt, Marlins Park will host the Marlins' 9 th annual Fish 'N Chips Casino Party. Guests are invited to join Marlins players, alumni and coaches beginning at 5:30 p.m. The night will feature tables of craps, blackjack, roulette, poker and slot machines, an array of hors d oeuvres, signature cocktails, live entertainment, a silent auction and a raffle filled with exciting packages. Miami returned home after going 2-4 on a six-game road swing to Chicago against the Cubs (0-3) and Colorado (2-1). This homestand will continue following tomorrow's off-day with a three-game set against the Chicago White Sox. Beginning on August 15, the Marlins will open a seven-game road trip with the first of four against the Cincinnati Reds, followed by a three-game series in Pittsburgh. LAST NIGHT VS. SAN FRANCISCO Tom Koehler and the Marlins pitching staff limited the Giants to three hits in Miami's 2-0 win. The game started fast for Miami, as Dee Gordon led off with a walk and moved to second on a single by Martín Prado. Following the first out of the inning, Giancarlo Stanton connected on an RBI double and Marcell Ozuna followed with an RBI groundout to short. The Fish recorded just four hits on the evening, one each off the bats of Prado, Christian Yelich, Stanton and Miguel Rojas. Koehler (9-8) allowed just two hits over 7.0 scoreless frames, and Fernando Rodney converted his second save with Miami (19 th of the season). ELIAS SAYS... Tom Koehler threw 7.0 scoreless innings for the Marlins against the Giants to earn his ninth victory of the season last night. Koehler has excelled against San Francisco in his career, going 3-0 in four starts with a 1.38 ERA and a.176 batting average allowed. That's Koehler's lowest ERA and opponents batting average against any team he's started against more than once. UP NEXT Following tomorrow's off-day, the Marlins will entertain the Chicago White Sox for a three-game Interleague set beginning Friday night at 7:10. These two teams last met in 2013 at U.S. Cellular Field, with the Fish dropping all three games. This is just the second meeting between the clubs in South Florida, with the Marlins taking two of three from June 15-17, 2004. Miami trails the all-time series, 5-7. LUCK OF THE IRISH WILL BE WITH...? Both of today's starters, David Phelps and Jeff Samardzija, pitched collegiately at Notre Dame, and they were teammates on the 2006 Big East Championship team. Phelps compiled a 15-10 record and 3.60 ERA (230.0 ip/92 er) from 2006-09 (41 G/32 GS), while Samardzija owned a 21-6 record and 3.82 ERA (240.1/102) from 2004-06 (50 G/31 GS). STAFF TAKING CHARGE Since June 19, Miami starters have gone 10-3 with a 2.58 ERA (136.0 ip/39 er) over 23 starts at Marlins Park. The rotation's home ERA in that time is second in the Majors to only the Cubs, who have pitched to a 2.38 ERA (144.0/38). As a team, Miami pitchers have a 2.87 ERA (213.0/68) at home since the middle of June, which ranks third in the Majors behind the Cubs (2.80) and Houston (2.83). SUMMER IS HOT FOR THESE THREE Since June 29, Miami has three of the top nine hitters in the Majors, and three of the top five in the National League. Martín Prado ranks fourth in MLB at.358 (49x137), followed by Christian Yelich at sixth (.349; 51x146) and J.T. Realmuto at ninth (.345; 39x113). Yelich ranks second in the Majors in hits in that span, behind Jose Altuve (52), while Prado is tied for third with Mookie Betts. PRADO'S PRODUCTION Martín Prado went 1x4 with one run scored last night against the Giants. Over his last 17 games at Marlins Park, Prado has hit.443 (27x61) with 15 runs scored, 10 doubles, three home runs and 19 RBI. Over his first 37 games at home, he hit just.217 (31x143) with 15 runs scored, seven doubles, one home run and nine RBI. Since June 25, Prado leads the Majors in home batting average, ahead of Adrian Gonzalez, who ranks second at.420 (29x69). RESURGENCE OF DEE Since going 0x4 in his first game back with Miami on July 28, Dee Gordon has hit.366 (15x41) with 13 runs scored, a double, a triple and one RBI over his last 11 games. He has recorded at least one hit in nine of those 11 games and has tallied at least one run scored in each of his last six games (nine total). The six consecutive games with at least one run scored is a career best, edging out five previous five-game stretches. Since July 29, Gordon is tied with Nolan Arenado, Charlie Blackmon and Logan Forsythe (13) for the MLB lead in runs. REAL-ING OFF HITS With his eighth-inning single Monday night, J.T. Realmuto extended his current hitting streak to a career-best 11 games. Over the streak, he is hitting.357 (15x42) with five doubles and five RBI. His previous best was a 10-game streak from August 31 to September 14, 2015, where he hit.389 (14x36).
