Harlow, 3243823 Personal Statement: Being a student athlete requires commitment and dedication to not only the sport we play but also the academics that allow us to achieve our goals beyond our sport. Basketball has always been my avenue to achievement on and off the court. I love the sport, my teammates, my coaches, and everything that goes into practicing to get better, strength training to keep my body in top condition, and study to learn from my mistakes and about my competition. I can play nearly every position. I'm currently a Varsity Starter at Point Guard on my high school team, and play the point through 3. Last year as a Sophomore, because I can play at every position, I played in every varsity game at the 2/3 and started several games mid season at the 4/5. I am the only player on the team who has gone from playing in the post in middle school, to the 3/2 as a Freshman on JV and last year on Varsity, to now starting at Point Guard on Varsity. My team went 19-4 this year. The best record in school history. We won our conference 6-0, and were undefeated at home. I lead the team in 3pt percentage (40%) and 3pt shots made (31), 2nd in overall scoring, rebounds, assists, and steals. I do much more than just score and I love to play defense. Why? Because of my versatility, effort, and attitude for doing whatever my coaches want me to do to help the team win. This same mindset and dedication is what I try to bring to the classroom. Education is the path to success and the only way to achieve my future goals. Success in the classroom can only be accomplished by applying the same dedication I have for basketball to studying for that next exam. Basketball has helped me understand what I have to do to stay ahead in the classroom. I see basketball as the tool to help me get the best education I can at one of the best universities in the country. I am wanting to go into an Exercise Science, Physical Therapy, Athletic Training career path, to help other young girls achieve their goals of being great student athletes. I know that this is a difficult career path and requires a longer education plan, but I am committed to achieving this goal. Therefore, I am looking for a university or college that not only has a good basketball program, but one that has an even better PT, ES, AT program. My promise to you is that not only will I bring my confidence, dedication, and work ethic to your basketball program to do whatever it takes to make the team better, and to your university's academic programs to achieve the program's academic goals, but I will be an even greater role model for other athletes, especially the younger girls, to follow.
