Starting for Miami is right-hander Nathan Eovaldi (6-13, 4.44), who is 2-3, 5.23 in six career starts vs. the Nats. The Nats counter with right-hander Stephen Strasburg (13-11, 3.23), who beat the Marlins and Eovaldi, 2-1, in Miami in his last start. The Marlins concluded their home slate Thursday with a 6-4 win vs. the Phillies, wrapping up a 42-39 record at home, their first winning record at Marlins Park. This is the first time since 2009 that the Marlins close out a season on the road. The 2009 campaign ended with a six-game trip to Atlanta and Philadelphia. ABOUT YESTERDAY The Marlins dropped the first game of the doubleheader, 4-0, in DC. Miami had just three hits, all by Donovan Solano. Jarred Cosart, making his final start, allowed three runs, two earned, in 5.0 innings, while walking a career-high eight. Doug Fister threw the complete-game shutout for Washington, allowing no walks with nine strikeouts. Miami took the nightcap 15-7, after a five-run fifth inning put them ahead 7-4. Miami added three more in the seventh and five more in the ninth. A.J. Ramos improved to 7-0, picking up the win in relief of Andrew Heaney. J.T. Realmuto was 3x5 with four RBI, including a bases-loaded triple, and Kike Hernandez was 1x2 with four RBI, all coming on his first career grand slam. VS. THE NATIONALS The Marlins trail the season series, 6-11, going 3-7 at home and 3-4 at Nationals Park. All-time, the Marlins are 189-163 vs. the Expos/Nationals franchise, 98-81 vs. the Nationals, 45-43 in DC and 33-28 at Nationals Park. 40 CLUB Steve Cishek needs one more save to become the fifth Marlins closer to reach 40 saves. The last time the Marlins had a closer with 40 saves was in 2005, when Todd Jones had 40. The other 40-save Marlins were: Armando Benitez SERIES INFO (47 in 2004), Antonio Alfonseca (45 in 2000) and Bryan Harvey (45 in 1993). SEVEN UP A.J. Ramos got the win last night, improving to 7-0 on the season. The last time a pitcher finished the season with seven or more wins and no losses was in 2012, when Nate Jones of the White Sox was 8-0 in relief. The last NL pitcher to finish 7-0 or better was Micah Owings, who went 8-0 for Arizona in 2011. SOME RELIEF The Marlins bullpen owns a 3.28 ERA on the season, currently ranking sixth in the NL, and a 2.57 ERA since the All-Star break, second in the NL behind PIttsburgh (2.49). The team s 3.28 relief ERA would rank as the Marlins all-time best ERA by their bullpen. Last year, the team s bullpen combined for a 3.42 ERA, matching the 2011 bullpen. The Marlins pen finished with a 2.81 ERA at home, which ranks third-best in the Majors, behind San Diego (2.16) and Seattle (2.35); the 2.81 home ERA by the bullpen is the best-ever relief ERA at home in Club history, ahead of the 2011 bullpen, which had a 2.87 mark. The bullpen currently has 30 wins, one shy of matching the club record. The team has TEAM VS. TEAM STATS gotten 31 wins in the pen three times: 2000, 2008, 2009. The bullpen also had 30 wins in 2011. ERROR FREE Casey McGehee had two chances at third base yesterday, fielding them both successfully, to finish the season without making an error at home (179 total chances). He is the first Marlins third baseman to go an entire season without making an error at home, and he joins Juan Pierre (232 TC in 2003) and Juan Encarnacion (159 TC in 2003) as the only Marlins position players to finish a season without making an error at home. TAKE ME HOME Casey McGehee enters today s game with 76 RBI and just four home runs. The last time a player had 74+ RBI with four or fewer home runs was Willie McGee, who had 77 RBI and three homers in 1990. According to STATS LLC, Mc- Gehee and McGee are two of just four players since 1980 to drive in 76+ runs with four or fewer home runs. The others were Tom Herr in 1987 (83 RBI, 2 HR) and Julio Franco in 1984 (79 RBI, 3 HR). OPPONENT INFO MARLINS VS.
