PREVIEW : TOULOUSE FC - PARIS SAINT-GERMAIN Feature Preview Paris Saint-Germain will entertain hopes of maintaining their momentum ahead of next week's Champions League date with Barcelona when they travel to Toulouse FC on Saturday. The French title-holders welcome Barça, the team that knocked them out of the Champions League in the 2012/13 quarter-finals, to the Parc des Princes on Tuesday looking to improve on their opening group-stage draw at Ajax. It was with ambitions of adding some gloss to their away record that they headed to SM Caen on Wednesday, and returned with a maiden triumph on their travels to end a run of three successive draws in all competitions. "The result is very reassuring," said Paris coach Laurent Blanc, who saw Brazilian duo Lucas and Marquinhos score his team's goals. "In our situation, the most important thing was to take three points. Paris Saint-Germain hadn't won away from home, they have now. We go away again, to Toulouse, on Saturday. We're in a delicate period. We have spoken a lot to the players. A lot of clubs go through such times, times when you have to dig in. We're going to savour this win." The victory was all the more significant given the injury-enforced absence of leading scorer Zlatan Ibrahimovic, whose heel problem means he is unlikely to feature in the south-west, and the hamstring problem sustained by Ezequiel Lavezzi that forced Blanc into reshuffling his pack barely ten minutes into the game, which was Caen's first this season in their own Stade Michel d'ornano, previously used for the World Equestrian Games. "We played well. It shows that we can count on everyone," said midfielder Blaise Matuidi, who was joined by Yohan Cabaye in midfield with Marco Verratti serving a one-match ban. "We'd lacked the rub of the green recently. We hadn't managed to score that second goal that gave us a cushion. This time, we did it. We're happy because it wasn't easy against a tough side who were playing in their own stadium for the first time. It's positive for what is to come." Paris have the edge in their league meetings with Toulouse in south-western France, winning on all of their last four visits while also scoring a hatful of goals. However, their optimism will be tempered by the good form shown by Alain Casanova's men in recent weeks. They swept aside Stade Rennais FC 3-0 in midweek, and have now lost just one of their last four matches, winning twice. "We played really well," said top scorer Wissam ben Yedder, who took his season's tally to four with his team's final strike at the Stade de la Route de Lorient. "It was a great performance?the coach told us to apply ourselves and be focussed. That's what we did." "It wasn't easy, but the lads really wanted to have a good match and get a result here in Rennes," a content Casanova, whose team has three wins to offset three losses in a roller coaster opening to the campaign, stated. "It's been a tough start to the season as we've played some promising football but often failed to be effective, both in attack and defence. I'm satisfied with the way we played, but we can still do better. I know I have a young team who sometimes need to inject some tempo into their play; they can move quickly and link up well. But above all, their mental strength is remarkable. We have all the ingredients for a good season." 09/26/2014 Ligue de Football Professionnel - 2014/2015 - Ligue1.com 2
