We had at least 80+ in attendance. The club sponsored a wonder meal which was enjoyed by all. We had a 50/50 raffle that resulted in a win of $75.00. Merry Christmas Ernie. We also gave away 5 bottles of great wine and at least 8 lift tickets. OOPS almost forget the hand warmers... Our members brought in over 110 bags of clothing. Some were taken to the Rome Rescue Mission by Kathy Reese and Chris Mihm. Thanks girls! Your offer to do deliver was most appreciated. Ron Geiskopf and I delivered a ton of stuff to the Utica Rescue Mission and to the Veterans on Wednesday by 1:00 PM. All organization were so grateful to receive the needed items just in time for the Holidays. Thank you to Tom O'Hara for such a super idea and to all the members for their generosity. We are a great club. Thanks. PS: I also want to thank those of you who helped load the trailer. A special thanks to Greek Peek for a great presentation and for the lift ticket. They hope to see us this year as they have done much in terms of improvements. High Speed Quad for one. Great price on lift ticket any time. Just show your membership card. Another benefit of membership. The month of January will bring about many events. Weekend trip to Bolton Valley, Gore day trip, and a weeklong trip to Sugarloaf. Cross country at Betty's and a few great Friday night social hours. Check the newsletter, Facebook and news blasts for more info. It is that time of year when you should start thinking of nominations for upcoming elections. Why not run for an office. It is so much fun and rewarding. Give back to the club. We need some new blood and new faces. You are our future so please think about it. Nominations forms will be out very soon. All nominations should be in by the end of February so we can prepare the ballot. Please keep Liza Johnson in your thoughts and prayers. By the time this newsletter is published she would have had hand surgery for 15 broken bones. This was a result of an auto accident. We are all thinking of you.... The NY Deal is back Winter is finally here and most if not all the ski areas will be open around the State! On January 9 th, 2014 skiers and snowboarders can enjoy a beautiful day on the slopes for $12-$24! With this program skiers and riders can go to www.iskiny.com to select and purchase a $12 voucher (up to 2 per household per date) that they print at home. They can take their voucher to the ski area they chose and redeem for a lift ticket for the day or evening. Future skiers can also take advantage of this program with a select number of learn to ski or ride packages that will be available at some ski areas for $25. ISKINY President Scott Brandi noted Last year this award winning promotion was extremely popular with thousands taking advantage of it and we are extremely pleased to bring back an expanded promotion this season. There is also a Discover Learn to Ski offer as well, for more information and to purchase your voucher(s) today go to http://www.iskiny.com/ski-deals/discover-ny-skiing.

THE ALPINE EDGE Don t go swimming until an hour after you eat! Remember your parents telling you that? Well there was truth to that and it somewhat applies to skiing also, except you won t drown. How many times have you had lunch and then gone back out skiing and felt cold and tired? The reason is the same as not going swimming. Your body takes a lot of blood to digest food. So it restricts the blood flow to your arms and legs so there is more to go to your guts to digest the food. Now your arms and legs don t have as much oxygen or warm blood to feed those muscles, so you feel tired and chilly. To prevent this, take a few minutes after eating to sit and relax so the body can digest the food and be able to get the blood flow back to your arms and legs to the proper amount. Be sure to check the events calendar for different mountain specials. There are many that if you can take a midweek day off you can ski pretty cheap. There are also a couple of additions since the last one. There will be a couple of ski happy hour Friday nights. The first is on Jan 24 at Woods Valley and another on Feb 28 at Snow Ridge. Remember the first club ski day at Snow Ridge on JAN1. Lift tickets will be $22 (need 15 or more people), must show GE membership card. First GORE MT bus trip on Sun Jan 5. Bus will leave the New York State department of transportation parking lot in North Utica on the barge canal (across Genesee St from Aqua Vino) at 6:45 AM SHARP. It will then stop in Mappledale to pick up North Country people a little after 7. Contact Dick Forsti ASAP if you would like to go (rforsti@juno.com). $75 bus and lift ticket. BYOB refreshment for trip home. Looking for a nice skiing 2014 calendar, Dicks sporting goods has them by the register s in back by the parking lot entrance. Some great ski pictures. They also have some great NIKE, Under Armor and other brand base layer clothing that maybe on sale after Christmas. Think Snow and have a great skiing and boarding season. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ For those who may be interested in one of the council trips that are planned.
