We would love to have members stop by, say hi and place a bid on some great stuff. There is also an opportunity to volunteer at the Council table. Volunteers receive free entrance to the event. Volunteers will sign up for 2 hour shifts with 4 people during each shift. If you are interested in this opportunity please contact Sandy Culver at traildiamond@gmail.com or Craft Beer Garden and Sampling area- sample your choice of craft beers and delicious foods for $10 (sold separately with paid admission to Expo). 6 COLD WEATHER/WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE WARM FOR WINTER Help the G E SKI CLUB show it has a heart for our community by donating your winter coats, jackets, parkas, hats, scarves, mittens, gloves, boots to WARM FOR WINTER Clean your closets out and drop off the winter clothing you no longer use at the NOVEMBER 15 TH G E SKI CLUB GENERAL MEETING We will collect your donations and deliver them to Assemblyman Anthony Brindisi whose office will in turn make donations to the Rescue Mission of Utica and the Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees THANK YOU!! Our local community will be most grateful for your generosity and compassion 6
7 Remember when getting new boots, the boot size should be ½ to 1 & 1/2 sizes smaller than your street shoes. They need to be snug, and the first time you try on a boot, that is the tightest it will be. Boot liners pack out (get looser) as you ski. As the colder weather approaches some new warm clothes or under layers maybe in need. To thank Gander Mountain for the free use of their meeting room for the clubs board meetings, you may want to consider stopping in to see their selection. They have some good prices on some of the top brands like under armor, north face, Spyder, Columbia etc. Winter under wear! Remember NO COTTON. While nice and cozy when dry, cotton does not wick water away. When it gets cold it will be wet and make you colder. Get wicking base layers, silk, polypro etc., to transfer the moisture away from your skin to the outer layers of clothing. In fact all your winter activity clothing should wick. The moisture can get to the air and evaporate away from you. Don t forget snow shoveling also. Our club is a member of the New York Capitol District Ski Council and the New Jersey ski and Snowboard council. As club members you can partake of the specials, council trips and other council clubs trips. Capitol district has some council ski days at many ski areas set up already. All you need to do is go to these ski areas on the day listed, show your membership card and maybe a photo I D to receive a discounted lift ticket for that day. There is an annual pre-season lesson/ski/party 3 day trip to Stowe 12/8-11. See flyer or Contact Ron Geiskopf at for info. Sign-ups are also available at meetings. EMPIRE(also called ski 3)cards for Gore, Whiteface and Bellearye will be available at the Albany ski show, Nov 4 6 in the Empire state plaza, for $10 off. $89 instead of on line price of $99. Good at Gore, Whiteface and Belleayre. First day free, 50% off mid week and 25% off lift prices weekends. If you re going to ski these places a few times, this is a good deal, esp in the spring when prices drop. The first Gore bus ski day of the season is Sun Jan 8. Give Dick Forsti a call to sign up, $85 for adults includes bus and lift ticket, seniors(age 65-69) cost is $75, to ride bus only -$40. Gore lift is $83 on weekends.
