GAME: 63 (32-30) ROAD GAME: 33 (18-14) TODAY'S BROADCASTS: FS Florida WINZ (940 AM) WAQI (710 AM) FISH BITES The Marlins and Diamondbacks play the rubber match of this three-game set today at 1:10 p.m. MST. Miami will send left-handed pitcher Adam Conley to the bump for his second career start against Arizona; the other was a 4-0 victory at Marlins Park on May 5 of this season (5.1 ip, 2 h, 0 r, bb, 6 so). Arizona will counter with a southpaw of their own, Robbie Ray, who is 0-2, 5.40 in two career starts against the Fish; he also started in the May 5 match-up this season (5.1 ip, 6 h, 2 r, 2 er, bb, 5 so). Miami opened this road trip with a stop in Minnesota (1-2), and will wrap it up with a three-game set against San Diego starting tomorrow. Following an off-day on the 16 th, Miami opens a 10-game homestand against Colorado (June 17-20), Atlanta (June 21-22), and the Cubs (June 23-26). LAST NIGHT AT ARIZONA The Marlins let a 2-0 lead slip away in the middle frames, as the Diamondbacks erupted for four runs on five straight two-out hits in the decisive sixth inning of a 5-3 win. An RBI ground out by Christian Yelich got Miami on the board in the first, and a solo home run by J.T. Realmuto in the fourth doubled the lead. But José Fernández, perfect through 5.2 innings, was touched for two singles, a double, a triple, and a home run before closing out the sixth. Marcell Ozuna added a solo home run in the eighth to extend his road hitting streak to 11 games. UP NEXT The Marlins travel to San Diego following today's game and begin the final leg of their road trip with the first of three games at Petco Park tomorrow night. Miami is looking to reverse a slide that has seen it drop nine of its last 12 meetings with the Padres, including five of the last six overall and three straight in San Diego. The Friars lead the all-time series, 91-81, with a 43-38 advantage in South Cali (22-18 at Petco Park). DENIED A NINTH José Fernández's streak of eight straight starts with a win was snapped last night by the Diamondbacks, leaving him tied with Chris Hammond (1993) as owners of the longest such streak in Club history. Fernández was tagged with his third loss of the season, thus also ending the franchise's second-longest streak (tied) of consecutive decisions with a win. - STATS LLC. CLIMBING THE LADDER Ichiro Suzuki recorded a pinch-hit single last night. He has now recorded 2,974 career hits, placing him at 31 st on Major League Baseball's all-time hits list. He is now 11 hits away from tying Sam Rice (2,985) for 30 th. Ichiro is batting.336 (39x116) on the season and is just 26 hits from 3,000. Ichiro tallied 1,278 hits in nine seasons with the Orix Blue Wave of Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan, giving him a combined 4,252 hits between the two leagues. He is just four hits from unofficially tying Pete Rose's Major League record of 4,256. In addition, his stolen base in the first inning on April 29 in Milwaukee was the 500 th of his MLB career. He became just the eighth player in Major League history to reach 500 career steals and 2,900-plus hits, joining Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Paul Molitor, Eddie Collins, Rickey Henderson, Lou Brock, and Barry Bonds. Ichiro now has 504 steals, and is currently tied with Paul Molitor for 38 th on the all-time list. Up next after Molitor are Tommy McCarthy and Luis Aparicio, who are tied for 37 th with 506 steals. Elias LEFT FOR DEAD The Marlins boast a.750 (9-3) winning percentage when facing left-handed starting pitchers this season, the best mark in baseball, ahead of the Cubs (.722/13-5). Miami leads the National League in team batting average vs. left-handers at.275, which ranks third in the Majors behind Texas (.292) and Boston (.290). Marcell Ozuna leads the Majors with a.426 (20x47) mark against southpaws, while Martín Prado is tied for 13 th at.362 (17x47). DISPATCHES FROM THE ROAD Martín Prado is leading the Majors with a.412 batting average on the road this season...j.t. Realmuto, meanwhile, ranks fifth in the Majors with a.377 road average...marcell Ozuna is in the midst of an 11-game road hitting streak, the longest active run in the Majors. Ozuna is batting.429 (21x49) during his streak, with 13 RBI...Miami has a.563 (18-14) winning percentage on the road this year. That ranks seventh in the Majors, behind the Cubs (.667/20-10), Seattle (.633/19-11), Washington (.618/21-13), St. Louis (.613/19-12), San Francisco (.594/19-13), and Boston (.567/17-13). REVERSING THE TREND The Diamondbacks' 75-59 (.560) all-time record against the Marlins is their second-best mark against a current National League franchise. However, Miami has won six of the last seven meetings, and the six-game winning streak that was snapped last night marked the longest (tied) for Miami in series history. In the bigger picture, Miami had reeled off nine straight wins against the NL West prior to last night's loss; the run began on April 24 (at SF-1, at LAD-4, vs. ARI-3, at ARI-1), and was tied for the longest streak in Club history (also, May 1-22, 2012 at SF-3, at SD-3, vs. COL-2). - STATS LLC LUCKY #7 The Marlins offense averaged just 2.9 runs per game from May 30 through June 8, tied with the Mets for the second-lowest mark in the Majors over that span, ahead of only Atlanta (2.7). That trend was turned on its on Thursday and Friday, however, as Miami scored seven times in the seventh inning in both games to propel themselves to wins in Minnesota and Arizona, respectively. According to STATS LLC, Miami was the first team since the Yankees (vs. Seattle) on September 4 & 5, 2007, to score seven times in the seventh inning of consecutive games. SHUTTING THE DOOR A.J. Ramos earned his 19 th save of the season Friday night in his 19 th opportunity, setting a new Club record for consecutive saves to open a season. Ramos has converted 28 straight save opportunities dating back to last season, marking the third-longest active streak among Major League relievers. Brad Ziegler has successfully converted each of his last 40 opportunities, while Familia has saved 37 straight. Ramos' current streak is the second-longest in Club history, behind Steve Cishek's 33. 2016 MLB DRAFT SUMMARY MIAMI MARLINS (32-30) LHP Adam Conley (3-3, 3.76) at ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (27-37) LHP Robbie Ray (2-5, 5.14) CHASE FIELD, PHOENIX, AZ Sunday, June 12, 2016 4:10 P.M. The previous all-time record had been established just three weeks before, when Dodgers rookie Ross Stripling pitched 7.1 hitless innings in his Major League debut on April 8 at San Francisco. Took first loss of season on April 19 vs. Washington, allowing season-high four runs on eight hits (two home runs) while walking one and striking out eight over 6.2 innings. Combined to strike out 17 in two starts from April 13-19.
