STEWARDS REPORT Australian Turf Club ROYAL RANDWICK RACECOURSE Saturday 9th March 2019 Weather: Overcast/Showers Track: Good (4) Rail: True Penetrometer: 5.06 COMMITTEE OF STEWARDS: M F Van Gestel (Chairman), P C Dingwall, J J E Earl, T J Vassallo and cadets, J A Dinopoulos and S C Knight ------- Supplementary Report: NEWCASTLE Friday 8 th March 2019 Race 4: Events By ATC Handicap 1400m Estroverto - Close to the winning post, Estroverto had to be checked when crowded for room between Diamond Pedrille, which was laying in and shifted in slightly, and King of the Realm (S. Clipperton) which when under pressure shifted out marginally. In all the circumstances, the Stewards believed that the appropriate penalty was to reprimand S Clipperton. In arriving at this decision the stewards whilst acknowledging that the interference was as a result of a minor shift by King Of The Realm, nonetheless they advised S. Clipperton that just prior to the interference he had placed undue pressure on Estroverto and that the minor shift from King of the Realm was sufficient to cause the interference. S. Clipperton was advised that in similar circumstances, he is to provide his fellow riders with sufficient space and he must, where possible, correct his mounts when they commence to shift when not clear of other runners. RACE 1: Wenona Girl Quality 1200 metres Sedanzer Rider T. Clark stated that the mare, which was racing first up today could not sustain the fast early tempo for the first 200m and would derive benefit from being stepped up in distance for its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover. La Bella Diosa (NZ) In the early part of straight, laid in and was reluctant to shift to the outside of Spright. Resin On jumping was bumped on the hindquarters by Sweet Scandal, which was crowded and taken out by In Good Time. In the straight, laid out, resulting in its rider, J. McDonald changing his whip to the left hand. Sweet Scandal When questioned regarding his riding, J. Ford confirmed his instructions were to lead. He added that on jumping, Sweet Scandal was crowded when In Good Time shifted out and for this reason, his mount lost ground at the start and he was obliged to then ride it along to take up a forward position. He added that when he was positioned to the outside of the early leader, In Good Time, he expected that horse to continue forward and cross Za Zi Ba, which would have resulted in Sweet Scandal taking a position one-off outside In Good Time. He further stated that when In Good Time did not continue forward and remained one-off the fence, he was then caught three-wide and without cover and as Resin had improved to his inside, he was unable to obtain a trailing position. Stewards noted the explanation provided by J. Ford. In Good Time Trainer T. Bartley was fined $100 under AR206 for the late notification to add winkers to the mare. After being shifted to the outside of Sweet Scandal to obtain clear running at the 200m, was then steadied near the 50m when taken out by Sweet Scandal (J. Ford), which shifted out resulting in In Good Time making contact with Star Reflection. J. Ford was advised to exercise more care. In assessing penalty, Stewards found that In Good Time had not fully established running to the outside

of Sweet Scandal. As a consequence, In Good Time could not then be fully tested to the end of the race. Rider A. Adkins stated that in the early stages, his intention was to cross Za Zi Ba and lead, but when his mount did not show sufficient speed to do so, he elected to take a sit to the outside of that runner. He added that whilst the tempo of the race was strong leaving the 800m, he chose to hold that position rather than allowing Sweet Scandal to cross his mount as he felt this position was more advantageous. He added that in hindsight the better option may have been to take a trailing position near the 800m, to which may have assisted In Good Time finishing the race off better than what it was able to. Za Zi Ba Rider C. Reith could offer no tangible explanation as to why the mare weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 2: Tokyo City Keiba Fireball Stakes (Listed) 1100 metres Santos Rider T. Clark advised that the colt was obliged to race wide and without cover for the majority of the event, and was a beaten horse from the 600m. In the straight, Santos did not respond to his riding and was most disappointing. Co-trainer Mr. A Bott could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance and undertook to report back to the Stewards on the condition of the colt subsequent to the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Sandbar Rider C. Reith stated that the colt was obliged to race wide and without cover, but was under pressure from the 600m and finished the race off at the point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer B. Widdup advised that C. Reith had reported Sandbar had made a minor respiratory noise and as such, he will furnish the results of an endoscopic examination prior to Sandbar racing again. Jonker Slow to begin. Legend of Condor Near the 600m, was steadied when crowded between Sandbar and Jonker (J. McDonald) which shifted out when being crossed by God of Thunder. J. McDonald was advised to exercise more care. Soon after straightening, raced in restricted room between Sandbar and Humma Humma, which shifted out slightly. For some distance near the 200m, could not be tested when placed close to the heels of Humma Humma. When questioned, rider J. Parr stated that his mount, which was racing first up today, raced keenly and as a consequence, settled more forward than what he had intended. Baller Rider K. McEvoy advised that whilst he had anticipated taking up a position with cover, his mount, once crossed by Sandbar near the 600m, was reluctant to hold its position to the inside of Santos. He added that in the straight, Baller was unable to secure clear running from the 300m until the 100m and then raced tight to the inside of Sandbar for some distance near the 100m, and as a consequence, could not be fully tested at any stage thereafter. Roosevelt Shifted behind runners from its wide draw in the early stages. Overraced in the middle stages. Trope Was shifted behind runners shortly after the start from its wide draw. Humma Humma Slow to begin. Held up in the straight near the 300m. Prophet s Thumb Was shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide draw. When commencing to improve into the event near the 200m, was shifted out to obtain a doubtful run between Jonker and Humma Humma, and in doing so, became awkward on the heels of Jonker when that runner shifted out slightly, resulting in Prophet's Thumb becoming unbalanced and bumping with Humma Humma. J. Collett, rider of Prophet's Thumb was advised to exercise more care and to ensure that there is sufficient room when he attempts similar manoeuvres. RACE 3: Astus Australia Reisling Stakes (Group 2) 1200 metres Exhilarates Slow to begin.

Anaheed Began awkwardly and made contact with its near-side barrier partition on jumping, resulting in its rider becoming unbalanced. Raced wide and without cover throughout. Near the 50m, was accidentally struck across the nose by the whip of T. Clark, rider of Vincere Volare. Belista Slow to begin. Bright Rubrick Was bumped on jumping by Anaheed, which shifted out. Was then shifted behind runners from its wide barrier. Classic Gown Was shifted behind runners shortly after the start from the outside barrier. Wayupinthesky Was bumped on jumping by Tenley, which shifted in slightly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Near the 350m, was steadied when disappointed for running between Get Hitched and Vincere Volare. Wayupinthesky was then shifted to the inside of Vincere Volare to obtain clear running and was again held up on the heels of Exhilarates near the 250m. RACE 4: UNSW Todman Stakes (Group 2) 1200 metres Time To Reign When questioned regarding the performance, rider J. Collett advised that from the inside barrier, Time To Reign was able to settle in a prominent position and although it did not have a trailing position directly behind Bellevue Hill, due to that runner staying one-off the fence, he felt Time To Reign settled satisfactorily in the run. He added that when he placed the colt under pressure in the straight, Time To Reign did not quicken as he had anticipated and in his opinion, raced disappointingly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer Mr. G Portelli stated that this was the first occasion where the colt was obliged to race inside other horses and this may not have advantaged Time To Reign. He added that the colt was expected to perform well today and he would now look to experiment with the use of blinkers for its next race start. Racing NSW veterinarians will inspect Time To Reign on the morning of Monday the 11 th March to follow up if there are any issues with the colt post-race. Yes Yes Yes Was shifted behind runners shortly after the start from the outside barrier. Spring Loaded - Rider T. Berry could offer no tangible explanation as to why the colt weakened in the straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 5: Hyland Race Colours Challenge Stakes (Group 2) 1000 metres Redzel Near the 500m, Redzel was taken wider when Estijaab shifted to the outside of Jungle Edge to secure clear running. Returned having lost its off-fore plate. Jungle Edge A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame (2/5) in the nearforeleg. Trainer M. Bell was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Jungle Edge being permitted to race again. Kaepernick Slow to begin. Help up until the 250m. Estijaab A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. RACE 6: Canterbury League Club Stakes (Group 1) 1300 metres Pierata Shifted behind runners shortly after the start from the outside barrier. Kementari After being slow to begin, then made slight contact with Cool Passion. Rider J. McDonald could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance of the horse. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. Trainer. J. Cummings was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Kementari being permitted to race again. Prompt Response A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have been galloped on the near-hind leg, which required treatment. Trainer. C. Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Prompt Response being permitted to race again. Cool Passion After being slow to begin and making slight contact with Kementari, was then briefly tightened between Kementari and Shoals, which shifted in.

Brutal (NZ) Slow to begin. Near the 800m, Brutal was steadied to avoid the heels of Prompt Response. Returned having lost its near-hind plate. RACE 7: Mostyn Cooper Randwick Guineas (Group 1) 1600 metres Madison County (NZ) Slow to begin. Purple Sector (NZ) Slow to begin. J. Parr, rider of Nakeeta Jane pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR131(a) in that near the 1000m, he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of Aramayo, resulting in Aramayo being taken in onto Diplomatico, which was checked and taken across the running of Purple Sector, which was severely checked. J Parr's licence to ride in races was suspended for a period to commence on Tuesday 12 th March 2019 and expire on Thursday 28 th March 2019, on which day he may ride. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Miss Fabulass Shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide draw. When questioned regrading the tactics adopted on the filly, J. Collett stated his primary instruction was to endeavour to obtain cover on the filly, however not to excessively restrain Miss Fabulass if the tempo was slow. He said that in the early stages he attempted to obtain a trailing position behind The Autumn Sun, but when the tempo was only slow, Miss Fabulass refused to settle and as a result he was obligated to allow the filly to stride forward to avoid it overracing. He added that as he commenced to do so, Miss Fabulass took charge and set a much faster tempo than what he had intended despite his efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be slow to recover. RACE 8: Teed Up Golf Tours Aspiration Quality (Group 3) 1600 metres Luvaluva (NZ) Raced wide and without cover throughout. All Too Soon Rider T Clark stated that the mare may not have performed as expected today following its strong first up performance at Rosehill on Saturday 23th February 2019. He stated that in his opinion, the mare may also be suited to be ridden a bit more conservatively at its next race start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Karavali (NZ) Slow to begin. Girl Tuesday Jumped only fairly from its wide barrier and then was shifted in behind runners. On the home turn, raced tight between Royal Stamp and Karavali, which was taken out slightly by Nettoyer. Oceanex (NZ) A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Extreme Bliss After being loaded into the barriers, kicked out behind and got its near hindleg up on the running board. Extreme Bliss was removed from the barriers, examined by the Club's veterinarian and deemed unsuitable to race. As such, the mare was a late scratching at 5:01pm. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on Extreme Bliss be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 5:01pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket. 1 st : Nettoyer 3 cents win, 4 cents place 2 nd Luvaluva 4 cents place 3 rd Luskintyre Lass 4 cents place RACE 9: The Luxury Network Randwick City Stakes (Listed ) 2000 metres Big Duke (Ire) Shifted behind runners shortly after the start from the outside barrier. Jaameh (Ire) A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Casterton (Ire) Raced wide and without cover throughout. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame (1/5) in the near-fore leg. Trainer C Waller was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to Casterton being permitted to race again. Emperor s Way Stewards permitted G. Schofield to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its allotted weight of 53.5kg.

Shraaoh (Ire) - Shifted behind runners in the early stages from its wide draw. In the straight, laid in under pressure and proved somewhat difficult to ride out to the finish and in the run to the post, raced tight with Emperor's Way. High Bridge (GB) After being loaded into the barriers, became fractious, reared and got down behind. High Bridge was removed from the barriers, examined by the Club's veterinarian and deemed unsuitable to race. As such, High Bridge was a late scratching at 5:42pm. The Stewards ruled that all monies invested on High Bridge be refunded in full and that all successful wagers made prior to 5:42pm be subject to the following deductions in the face value of each ticket. 1 st Hiyaam 4 cents win, 4 cents place 2 nd Shraaoh 5 cents place 3 rd Emperor's Way- 4 cents place Auvray and Plymouth Road, which were in the adjoining stalls, were also removed from the barriers, examined by the Club's veterinarian and passed suitable to race. Hyeronimus to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its allotted weight of 53kg. Villardo (GER) Stewards permitted J. Collett to ride the gelding half a kilogram over its allotted weight of 53kg.
