Purpose Team building w/ focus on patience for self and peers; students share ideas AND listen to those of others Objective Roll ball(s) into hole w/matching color trim Equipment Cooperative blanket 5 Balls: 1 red, 1 yellow, 1 blue, 1 orange, 1 purple, and 1 green Set- up Students are positioned around the perimeter of the blanket with equidistance between one another Students hold the edges of the blanket and hold it taught at about waist level How To Play Teacher drops one ball atop the blanket and students work together to direct the ball into the matching color hole If the ball drops off the edge or into a non- matching color hole, then they try again If the ball drops through the intended/color match hole, then they try two balls at once Continue this process up to as many balls as time permits (with five being the maximum) Both hands must grasp the edge of the blanket at all times Rules No blaming LIFE BOATS Purpose Team building w/ focus on communication; students share ideas AND listen to those of others Objective Get all group members to the mainland Equipment (Per Group) One scooter (lifeboat) One jump rope (tow rope) One pillow polo stick- or similar implement- (paddle/oar) One hula- hoop (island) Divvy students into 4-5 groups of 4-6 members per group Each group has a designated lane across gym stretching from sideline to sideline Set- up Lanes can be marked with gym spots or cones

All groups start behind one sideline Hula- hoop in middle of lane; all other equipment with the group Explain scenario for students to imagine: o You re on a sinking cruise ship o You re equipped with only the items in front of you and the island o Must get all members to safety/the mainland, which is beyond the opposite sideline o You re way off shore, the water is frigid, waves enormous, there may be sharks, etc. How To Play Students figure out how to use equipment to get all members to the opposing sideline Teacher may or may not name the equipment, which helps students plan Rules May not stand on the scooter Only one passenger at a time on the scooter May not move the island May not walk on water, if so, then go back one stop (from mainland to island or from island to ship) dragging finger or toe okay, just get back out of water
