GOOD SHEPHERD CATHOLIC SCHOOL ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT Lindsey Sweeney attended Good Shepherd Catholic School from 1997-2006. Her favorite memories include Olympic Day, Science Fair, the 8th Grade Play, and Zero the Hero. In the seventh and eighth grade her science fair projects advanced through school and County fairs, eventually placing 2nd and 3rd respectively, in the Physics category at the California State Science Fair. She received award prizes that sent her to Space Camp in Huntsville Alabama two years in a row. She credits these experiences and strong science curriculum for inspiring her and aiding her to pursue a career in Aerospace. Her well rounded Catholic education, at Good Shepherd, created a structured religious environment, which set standards and precedencies, engendering a desire to excel. This granted her opportunities in her continuing education and most importantly, choice in a rewarding career. Lindsey attended Mira Mesa High School and graduated with the class of 2010. While there, she founded the Robotics Team, received the prestigious San Diego Scholar Athlete of the Year award, and graduated in the top 1% of seniors in all of San Diego County. She recently graduated from the University of California Los Angeles (Class of 2014) with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. At UCLA she was an Executive Director on the Undergraduate Student Association Council (USAC), played collegiate soccer, and was on the Executive Board of her Alpha Phi Sorority. While on the Board she organized events that raised thousands of dollars to benefit women s heart health. She was a member of both the AIAA and Battle Bots clubs on campus. Within AIAA, she supported the Rockets Team and was a Project Lead for the Design-Build-Fly semi-autonomous aircraft competition. In her third year, she held an internship position at Tri-Star Electronics in El Segundo developing parts for aircraft avionics. She then held multiple internship positions at Northrop Grumman Aerospace Corporation directly under the Aerospace Division s Director of Engineering, developing new software to analyze and enhance the performance of existing aircraft and software to optimize designs for future aircraft operational requirements. Lindsey lives in San Diego and is employed as an Aerospace Engineer at Northrop Grumman. She currently works on conceptual and early development projects for the Department of Defense in the Unmanned Systems Division of the company. For the future, Lindsey looks forward to continuing her education by completing a Master s Degree in Aerospace Engineering. Several of our Good Shepherd students have been very active with Boy Scouts in the past month and a half. At the end of September Andrew Nguyen, Cameron Mahdavifar, and Casey Hubbard all hiked the Desert View Trail loop to the top and enjoyed the view from the Glen S. Wyatt lookout and then camped at William Heise County Park in Julian. In the beginning of October Casey and Cameron served as Staff at Webelos Woods, a camping and skills demonstration weekend at Mataguay Scout Ranch. They helped to introduce Webelos Cub Scouts and their parents to what their Troop did as Boy Scouts. The boys demonstrated their recipes for compact and tasty backpacking food, how to construct a lightweight and durable mess kit (insulated bowl and cup), and what one would pack for seven days of backpacking in California s Sierra Mountains. Our Good Shepherd Boy Scouts started November with a special Court of Honor (awards ceremony) where Cameron Mahdavifar and Andrew Nguyen were advanced to the rank of Star Scout (advancing along their path to Eagle Scout). Andrew also received several Merit Badges for Family Life, Stamp Collecting, and Citizenship in the Nation. These boys have been busy with Scouts and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you are interested in learning more about Boy Scouts, or want to become a Scout and share in their adventures, please be sure to ask them about it. Prayer Corner Families in need of our prayer

Hello GSCS families, This is a follow up communication to the escrip presentation given at our last PTG meeting. escrip is proven to be a fantastic resource for fundraising where participating business partners contribute a percentage of your grocery loyalty cards (Vons and Fresh and Easy in our area), credit card, and debit/atm card purchases to our school. Some merchants include favorites like Amazon, Target, Nordstrom, Best Buy, Expedia, Groupon, and many more. If you like to dine out, there are several restaurants such as Buca di Beppo, the Broken Yolk Cafe, L&L Hawaiian BBQ, Crab Catcher, and the Burger Lounge that provide credit back through the escrip Dining program. The only way the school and you can benefit is by enrolling and registering your cards through www.escrip.com. You can earn back up to 16% of your total charges towards your book fee obligation, simply by making your everyday purchases. No fee to join and no card or badge to carry. With the holidays right around the corner, this is the perfect time to get started! Simply follow the registration instructions from this link: https://secure.escrip.com/supporter/registration/index.jsp All you need to do is: #1 Enter your contact information and create a username and password #2 Select Good Shepherd Catholic School Boosters for your group and check the box #3 Enter your Vons grocery card number and/or your Fresh and Easy Friends card number. If you don t know those numbers, contact the following: Vons 877-723-3939 Fresh and Easy 877-338-6546 Special note: Vons will only give escrip credit for cash, debit cards, checks and gift cards. Credit card purchases will not count towards escrip. You may also enter any credit card numbers that you want registered for the escrip dining program. This will enable you to get credit from restaurants simply by paying with those cards.

Once you are registered, you can purchase away. You just have to remember to start from www.escrip.com first and click on the escrip Online Mall link. You then click on your merchant of choice. The % of credit is also next to each merchant, e.g.) Nordstrom gives you 4.8% back. You will then be directed to that merchant s website.

If you have any questions at all, please do not hesitate in reaching out to me at: jaybautista@earthlink.net or 858-869-7983. Thank you in advance for your participation and support of Good Shepherd Catholic School! Jay Bautista PRAYER FOR THE ELECTION OF A BISHOP O God, eternal shepherd, who govern your flock with unfailing care, grant in your boundless fatherly love a bishop for your Church in San Diego who will please you by his holiness and to us show watchful care. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen RIP Bishop Flores 1948-2014 From the Roman Missal A thought for reflection: Let us stand fast in what is right and prepare our souls for trial. Let us be neither dogs that do not bark or silent onlookers nor paid servants who run away before the wolf. St. Boniface
