SOUTH UMPQUA ROD AND GUN CLUB A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed. 845 Rod and Gun Club Road Riddle, Oregon 97469 Mailing Address: P.O. Box 639 Canyonville, Oregon 97417 Range Status Phone: (541) 357-7874 Website: www.surgc.org Newsletter for May 2013 NEXT GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING SUNDAY, MAY 5TH, 2013 @ 2PM AT THE CLUBHOUSE Our Membership meeting on April 7th featured Emily Hopfer who gave an excellent presentation on the Second Amendment. It gives everyone a great feeling that we have young people with this kind of understanding of our history and the reason our Constitution is so important to the United States citizens. Emily is a Junior at Days Creek High School and qualified 2nd in the State in the Oratorical Contest hosted by the American Legion, receiving a $3000 scholarship. Based on her speech, at our Club Membership meeting, we hope that she wins 1st Place next year. Tim Freeman, State Representative HD2, spoke on the current bills being proposed by the Oregon Legislature, relating to gun safety and gun control. He expressed his views with regard to gun rights and his commitment to speak and vote against gun control, which is against the Second Amendment. It is unbelievable that many politician's favor the restriction of types of guns, magazines, wanting to modify the Concealed Carry Permits use and add new requirements. Tim pointed out that each one of the legislatures took an oath to defend the Constitution, including the provisions of the Second Amendment. There is a definite lack of understanding of gun issues between the residents of Portland, Salem & Eugene and the rest of the residents in Douglas County. He answered member questions for almost an hour. After Tim leaves the State Office, he intends to run for a position as Douglas County Commissioner, and will no longer have to make the long trips to Salem and back home to Roseburg. Tim has joined our Club on April 12th, 2013. The MAY 5th MEMBERSHIP MEETING will feature Bill Marshall, Douglas County Circuit Court Judge. He will have some interesting comments from the perspective of a Judge and former Asst. District Attorney for Douglas County. We will also hear from Steve Kelley, District Superintendent of South Umpqua School District, who is returning to discuss the District s position on Resource Officer s and School Safety, for the five schools within the school district. The district will be receiving the Constitutions, which are provided FREE by our Club, in November when the Constitution is taught within the district school classes. This will be the last of our Speaker Series through the Summer Months.

The plastic venting panels will be installed after the painting of the siding and the inside of the enclosures are completed. There will be 3 levels of bangers that will test your longer range shooting skills and add some validity to your sighting-in a hunting rifle.
