Jarred Cosart is making his first career start and appearance against the Dodgers. He is being opposed by Carlos Frias, who is making his first career appearance against Miami. Miami entered this road trip completing its second-best nine-game homestand in Club history, going 7-2 against Washington (3-0), the Mets (2-1) and Philadelphia (2-1). The Marlins current road swing started with the Fish dropping two of three to the Washington Nationals and splitting a four-game set with the San Francisco Giants. Following today s game, the Marlins will return to South Florida to start a 10-game homestand against the Atlanta Braves (May 15-17), Arizona Diamondbacks (May 18-21) and Baltimore Orioles (May 22-24). VS. THE DODGERS Miami and Los Angeles split the 2014 series, 3-3, with Miami dropping two of three at Chavez Ravine. Miami trails the all-time series in the City of Angels, 36-48, as well as the all-time overall series, 77-94. Since 2010, Giancarlo Stanton owns the fourth-highest average against the Dodgers among MLB hitters with a.333 mark (33x99), while his 10 home runs are the most among players outside of the NL West. UP NEXT Following tomorrow s off day, Miami will open a three-game weekend series against the Atlanta Braves Friday night at 7:10 p.m. This will be the third meeting between the division rivals in 2015, with Miami trailing the series, 2-4. The Marlins were swept in a three-game series to open the season and took two of three at Turner Field from April 13-15. Miami trails the series in South Florida, 84-97, as well as the overall series, 152-212. LAST NIGHT The Marlins allowed the most hits in a game (21) since 2008 in an 11-1 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Marlins jumped out to an early lead as Giancarlo Stanton connected for his eighth home run of the season in the first inning, but couldn t get anything going over the final eight innings. Stanton led the Marlins offense by going 2x2, while Martin Prado, J.T. Realmuto and Adeiny Hechavarria collected the other three Miami hits in the game. Dan Haren (4-2) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on 11 hits (two home runs) while walking none and striking out four over 4.1 innings. A FIRST FOR EVERYTHING Over his career, Jarred Cosart has posted an 8-7 record and 2.61 ERA (138.0 ip/40 er) when facing an opponent for the first time. In 2015, Cosart has only faced one team for the first time, and that was in his last start, May 8 at San Francisco. In that game he allowed four runs on six hits (one home run) and three walks while striking out two over 4.0 innings. - Stats LLC SLICK FIELDING Miami has committed just 11 errors this season, tied with Tampa Bay for the fewest in Major League Baseball. The 11 errors are the fewest any Marlins defense has committed over the first 34 games of a season by a considerable margin. Prior to this year, the fewest errors committed by Miami over the first 34 games was 17 in 1996 and 2001. - Stats LLC FLYING FISH Despite a three-game slide, the Marlins have gone 12-8 over their last 20 games since April 22, good for the fourth-best winning percentage in the National League (tied for seventh in MLB with Tampa Bay). The Cardinals lead the NL with a.750 mark (15-5) over that span, with the Dodgers second at.684 (13-6) and Giants third at.667 (12-6). HITS KEEP COMING Since 1914, Dee Gordon has recorded the eighth-highest hit total through the first 31 individual games played to start a season (tied with six others). The last player to record as many as Gordon was Rod Carew in 1983, when he tallied 57 hits for the California Angels over his first 31. Gordon is just the fifth player since 1941 to have as many as 54 hits through his first 31, joining Carew and Hank Aaron (61 in 1959), Tony Oliva (54 in 1964) and Stan Musial (54 in 1958). See complete list, courtesy of Stats LLC, at right. GORDON S FLASHY STYLE Dee Gordon leads the Majors with his.412 average and 54 hits. He has hit safely in 26 of his 31 games played this season, and has hit in 13 of his last 15 games. Over the 15-game stretch, he has hit at a.484 clip (30x62) and recorded multiple hits in 10 of the 15 games. Gordon has 16 multi-hit games this year, trailing only Matt Carpenter (17) for the MLB-lead. Of Gordon s 16, nine have been 3+ hit games, which leads the Majors. MORSE CRACKING THE CODE Since returning to the starting lineup on May 7, Michael Morse has hit at a.364 clip (8x22), tallying three multi-hit games over the six-game stretch, and is tied with Chris Owings for the ninth-highest average among National League hitters in that span (min. 20 AB). Prior to May 7, Morse had hit just.193 (17x88) with three multi-hit efforts over 23 contests. MAKING THE DODGERS BLUE Over his career, Giancarlo Stanton has connected for 10 home runs against the Dodgers, tied with Buster Posey for the fifth-most against the Dodgers since 2010, trailing Paul Goldschmidt (16), Carlos Gonzalez (15), Troy Tulowitzki (12) and Justin Upton (11), However, he leads all Major League hitters with one home run per 9.90 at-bats against the Blue Crew (min. 50 AB), ahead of Dan Uggla (13.43), Juan Uribe (13.75), and Ryan Howard (15.20). WEST COAST IS THE BEST COAST Since making his Major League debut in 2010, Giancarlo Stanton has excelled when playing against the National League West. Since then, his.678 slugging percentage against the West leads the Majors (min. 500 AB), ahead of Freddie Freeman (.556). He has tallied 49 home runs against NL West opponents, which are the most among active players for non-nl West teams; Ryan Braun ranks second with 30. MARLINS VS.
