Thanks to the 3 people (Ron G., Mike Hardiman, and myself) who showed up on a cloudy Saturday day. The rain held off until the afternoon. The sun came out towards the end while we were bringing all the bags to the drop-off site. We had some unusual items found: Tent with poles, wet blankets, a printer tray, paint tray, floor mat, one tire, and many bags of trash all found within the DOT parking lot! Tip Jar Raised $200 for the season. May s New Board/Old Board Meeting Date will be TBD

It is hard to believe. Time to put up the ski equipment for the summer and bring out the kayaks, canoes, and bicycles. Get ready for a wonderful summer of events and fun. Let's hope for a sunny and warm summer. Since we don't have general meetings it is so important to check our Facebook page, News Blasts and our informative Newsletter to see what is going on. I just signed our club up for Saranac Thursdays and will know by May 1 if we are lucky enough to secure a spot for our club. Saranac Thursdays begins on May 22 and run through September 4th. There will also be special concert night this summer as well. Date to be determined. To be honest with all of you our chances are slim as there are 80 groups applying for 40 spots. Priority is given to those groups that support United Way. Summer events begin with our end of the year Spring Banquet and induction of our new officers at the Delta Lake Inn on May 2nd. The Ride for Missing Children May 16, May 31 Doug O'Hara Golf Outing @ Heron Creek, June 7 & 8 Relay for Life, July 13 Boilermaker Sunday, July 18-20 Camping @ Lake Harris, July 26 & 27 Irish Fest, August 9 Summer Picnic & Float just to name a few. To the board members who are stepping down, we thank you for your commitment and dedication in serving the Club. I am looking forward to serving as your President for another year. Thank you... RELAY FOR LIFE Team G.E. Ski Club says THANK-YOU to all that supported the basket raffle at the meeting on April 15th. Congrats to basket winners Kim and Brian Hackley, George McGlynn, Colleen Welch, Beth Martin, Tom Loughlin, Ernie Janus, Gracie Schell, Ron Geiskopf, Tom O'Hara, Mike Semeraro, and Paul Zajac. Our next "fun"draiser is at 99 Restaurant on Tuesday, May 20th. We are "Dining for a Cause" (American Cancer Society). Please join us between 5 and 8 pm to dine in or take out. You will need a voucher which can be found on the club website http://www.geskiclub.org/. Make copies, post at work, or bring some friends, neighbors, family. We look forward to seeing you. The 8th Annual Doug O'Hara Memorial Golf Outing is Saturday, May 31st (rain date Sunday June 1st) at Heron Creek. Cost is $35 pp ($5 goes to Relay for Life) which includes 9 holes, picnic food, 2 drink tx, and an afternoon of fun. All are welcome, beginner to experienced, come by yourself or as a team. Contact Wayne Franz at 315-939-0733 or drwrf@yahoo.com by Monday, May 26th to sign up or for more info. As mentioned at the last general meeting, Relay this year is June 7th and 8th at MVCC. We invite you to join our team and /or offer ideas for "fun"draisers. Contact Ron Geiskopf 732-5926 or Patti O'Hara 525-7288 Ride for Missing Children The Ride for Missing Children is coming up quickly. I will be doing the ride again this year along with Jim. This will be my 13th Ride and Jim s 15th. We are looking for your help to reach our goal of $1,000 each. Please donate today and help us get there. All your contributions are tax deductable and all funds raised go towards the printing and distribution of posters of missing children and to continue the mission of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and Education. Because of your help and support since 1995 the Mohawk Valley office on York St. has printed over 8,658,383 posters of 8,515 missing children and 6,022 have been "successfully recovered". On Friday, May 16, we will be honoring all missing and exploited children and raising awareness about the plight of all missing children and the need for child safety education. We will never give up hope for finding a missing child and we will never stop looking for a missing child. Our mission is to make our children Safer "One Child at a Time". Won't you help. Checks made payable to NCMEC-MV-NY. Mail to 166 St. Mary's Ave. Clinton, NY 13323 Thank you once again for your support. Any questions, please call Kathy 723-7741.

ALPINE CORNER Well I hate to say it but it looks like ski season is just about over. Some places in New England might be going for a while yet. So it s time to put the ski/board equipment away and get out the golf clubs, but since I really don t play golf I don t know anything about spring maintenance of golf clubs. For your ski equipment though you should clean everything off with a warm wet cloth, boots and tops and bottoms of skis. Dry them good. You should take the liners out of the boots and make sure they are clean and dry, check for mildew. After the liners are dry inside and out, put them back in the boots, make sure the right liner goes in the right boot, same with the left. Buckle the boots and store them in a cool dry spot. For the skis after you clean and dry them, if you have some wax, you should put some wax on the bottoms to keep the P-Tex from oxidizing, and on the edges to keep them from rusting. You can spray a little silicone or WD-40 on the bindings and a squirt in any of the spaces of the bindings so some can get inside to lubricate the insides. Store the skis in a cool dry area also, but defiantly not an attic. It gets much too hot and can damage the equipment. It is best to get a tune up before you store your skis as then they are clean, waxed and the edges are sharp and ready to go when the snow comes again. As an option you can back off the spring release tension in the bindings. The binding companies say this is not necessary, so don t worry too much about it. But if you do want to do this, make sure you write down what the binding is set at and tape it to the skis so it can be put back in the fall. On toe pieces the adjusting screw is usually right in the front of the binding. Take a screw driver and turn the screw until the setting indicator goes to the lowest number. On the heal piece it is usually the upper screw (the one farthest away from the ski). Turn that until the indicator is at the lowest number. Return to original setting in the fall before you go skiing. Latest rumor heard at Gore on closing day (and what a great ski day it was) is that the East chair (Adirondack Express triple) is going to be replaced with a high speed quad. The express triple is then going to replace the Dark Side (High Peaks) double and be re-extended to the top again and end somewhere by the warming shack. In my opinion I believe the triple will be converted to a fixed grip chair. It is now so old that the parts for the detachable part are no longer available. When it broke this winter a gear had to be hand made to get it going for the rest of the season. It s been a great ski season. See you on the snow next winter. ANDY *************************************************************************************************** CAMPING We are planning the July camping trip at Lake Harris next summer. We will be going the weekend of July 18-20 th and have reserved campsites #60, 64, 65, 56 & 45. Lake Harris is near Newcomb, NY. You can reserve a site at www.reserveamerica.com
