Andy's Alpine Corner The nights are getting chilly and the Ski Company has had their pre-season sale, So, I would say the ski and boarding season is approaching. As you do your fall cleanup and get ready to put the golf clubs, bikes, kayaks, and hiking boots away, don't forget to check on your ski equipment. Wipe the dust off the tops and bottoms of the skies. Use moist rag if necessary. Check the edges for rust. Check the bottoms for oxidation (if the bottoms have a white chalky look to them) and gouges. If rust or oxidation is present you will need a tune up to get them ready to ski. Clean off the out side of your boots. Moist rag again. Check inside for any mouse nests. Hopefully you left them lightly buckled when put away for summer, the cuffs retain their shape better if you do. Try them on to make sure your feet haven't changed and they still fit snug. Remember these are not bedroom slippers, they are the transmission between your legs and the ski. For good ski performance you need the boots snug but not pinching or painful. Check that your goggles are not scratched, you ski pants and jacket still fit (the phenomenon of closet shrinkage happens a lot), and your ski socks are clean. Remember you should NOT be using cotton clothing next to your skin. It will not wick away moisture and you will get cold. Use poly pro, wool, silk, spandex, light fleece, or other wicking materials for your socks and underwear. You will enjoy your skiing more if every thing is working right. See you on the slopes.
