He is being opposed by Jordan Zimmermann, who has gone 7-3 with a 3.34 ERA in 18 previous starts against the Fish. Miami is coming off its second-best nine-game homestand in Club history, going 7-2 against Washington (3-0), the Mets (2-1) and Philadelphia (2-1). Following this series, the road swing will take the Fish to the West coast for a four-game set against San Francisco (May 7-10) and three-game series at Chavez Ravine against the Dodgers (May 11-13). VS. THE NATIONALS Miami leads the 2015 season series after sweeping a three-game set at Marlins Park from April 24-26. This is Miami s first trip to the Nation s Capital this season; since 2005, the Fish and Nats have played to a 45-45 draw in DC. The Marlins have struggled in DC over the last two years, going just 4-15 at Nationals Park. Miami leads the overall series against the Nationals, 101-83. Giancarlo Stanton leads all visiting players in home runs at Nationals Park with 14, while batting.336 (44x131) with 27 RBI in 35 games at the venue. Since his debut in 2010, he has tallied 23 home runs against the Nationals, marking the most by any opponent. Ichiro Suzuki has recorded at least one hit in 17 of 18 career games against the Nationals, which includes a current nine-game hitting streak (.395/15x38). YESTERDAY The Fish had their four-game win streak snapped with a 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies at Marlins Park. Miami took a first-inning lead on a sac fly by Giancarlo Stanton. The Phillies tied the game in the top of the fifth, and in the bottom half of the frame Miami regained the lead on an RBI double by Jhonatan Solano. However, Philadelphia scored two in both the sixth and seventh innings, and capped their scoring with a solo run in the eighth. Jarred Cosart (1-2) took the loss, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk, while striking out six in 5.0 innings. MIAMI S SECOND HOME The Marlins have played 63 games at Nationals Park since it opened in 2008, and in that time leads all visiting teams in runs (298), hits (583), doubles (131) and home runs (74). The Fish have the sixth-highest average among NL visitors at the venue, with a mark of.262. The only NL teams with higher averages are Houston (.287, including two games since move to AL), Milwaukee (.269), San Francisco (.268), the Cubs (.267) and the Dodgers (.266). HITTING THEIR STRIDE Over the first 14 games of the season, Marlins hitters hit.243, ranking eighth in the National League, while scoring 3.79 runs/game, 11 th in the NL. Since April 22, the Fish lead the NL in average (.305), on-base percentage (.356) and runs/ game (5.18). PITCHING AND DEFENSE Miami s pitching staff had gone 3-11 with a starters ERA of 5.30 and relievers ERA of 5.26 through April 21. Opponents had clubbed 13 home runs while batting.254. Since April 22, the staff has propelled Miami to a 9-2 record with starters recording a 2.16 ERA (66.2/16) and relievers an ERA of 1.95 (32.1/7). Opponents have connected for just five home runs and hit.203. As for the defense, the Marlins fielders have committed just eight errors this season, fewest in the National League and second in MLB (Tampa Bay-7). Their.991 fielding percentage is second in the Majors to only the Rays.992. FROM TOP TO BOTTOM The Marlins have sandwiched their order with the top-hitting leadoff and number eight hitters in the Majors. Miami s leadoff hitters have posted a.437 average (45x103), ahead of St. Louis (.369), Houston (.361) and the Yankees (.346). In the eight hole, Marlins hitters have batted.344 (31x90), in front of Kansas City (.337), Cincinnati (.310) and Colorado (.291). Individually, Dee Gordon leads baseball with a.440 average (44x100) in the leadoff spot, and Adeiny Hechavarria ranks third among eight-hole hitters with a.358 average (29x81), behind DJ LeMahieu (.426) and Freddy Galvis (.370). Hechavarria leads the Majors in RBI from the eight-spot with 16, six more than the next closest hitter, Xander Bogaerts (10). PLAY IT AGAIN, SAM Sam Dyson is in the midst of a career long 12.1 scoreless innings streak. It is the longest active streak in the National League and ranks fifth in MLB. Since the streak began on April 11, Dyson is 1-0 with 14 strikeouts to three walks and is holding opponents to a.171 average (7x41). MORE FROM MORRIS Bryan Morris picked up his third win of the season on April 28 vs. the Mets and is currently tied with four others for the Major League-lead in relief wins. Last season, Morris was 6-0 at the All-Star Break, becoming the first reliever to record six-plus wins with no losses since Jonathan Broxton went 6-0 in the first half of 2009 with the Dodgers. BRINGING THUNDER WITH FLASH Dee Gordon hit at a.645 clip (20x31) over the Marlins most recent homestand, recording the second-highest average Overall record on this date: 10-11 over a homestand lasting nine-or-more games since 1914 (min. 25 PA). Barry Bonds posted a.684 mark (13x19) over a 10-game homestand from April 12-22, 2004. Dee s average sits atop the Pirates Joe Harris, who hit.634 (26x41) over a 12-game stand from May 30-June 11, 1927. and Cardinals outfielder Walt Moryn, who hit.625 (15x24) over 11 games from August 15-28, 1960. - Stats LLC BASE-KET BALL MARLINS VS.
