FISH BITES The Marlins are looking to complete a four-game sweep of the Dodgers tonight in the finale of this series at Chavez Ravine. RHP José Fernández (1-2, 4.37), who is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA (19.0 ip/6 er) in three career starts against the Dodgers, gets the call for Miami. Los Angeles will counter with RHP Kenta Maeda (3-0, 0.36), who is facing the Fish for the first time in his career. Tonight's game marks the end of the second leg of a three-city, 10-game trip for Miami. The Marlins went 1-2 in San Francisco, are 3-0 here in Los Angeles, and close out the trek with a three-game weekend set in Milwaukee, starting tomorrow night. LAST NIGHT AT LOS ANGELES Miami staved off a late rally from the Dodgers to earn its first shutout of the season, 2-0. The Marlins jumped out to an early lead, plating both of their runs in the first inning on back-to-back RBI-singles by Giancarlo Stanton and Marcell Ozuna. That would be all the run support starter Justin Nicolino (1-0) needed in his 2016 debut, as he tossed 7.1 scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks, while striking out two. It marked the longest outing by a Marlins' starter this season. The Dodgers threatened in the eighth after Nicolino departed, loading the bases with one out on walks by three different relievers. José Ureña was summoned from the bullpen at that point and was up to the task, getting out of the jam with a strikeout and fly out before tossing a perfect ninth to earn his first MLB save. UP NEXT The Marlins head to Milwaukee following tonight's game, where they kick off a three-game weekend series tomorrow night at 8:10 p.m. ET. Miami won the 2015 season series against the Brewers, 4-2, taking two-of-three games in Milwaukee. Overall, the Fish are 63-65 against the Brew Crew, with a 24-28 record at Miller Park. SWEEP INFO The Marlins tonight are looking to complete their first-ever series sweep in Los Angeles, and just their fifth sweep of the Dodgers overall. Miami, which has never swept a four-game set against the Dodgers, last blanked them in a threegame series in Florida from September 6-8, 1999. The Fish have a trio of three-game sweeps and a two-game sweep in series history. ELIAS SAYS... Manager Don Mattingly used five pitchers in the eighth inning in the Marlins' 2-0 win at Dodger Stadium last night. Three of the hurlers, Bryan Morris, Cody Ege, and David Phelps, faced and walked exactly one batter. Miami is the first team in Major League history to use three different pitchers in a shutout who failed to record an out. BEST AGAINST THE WEST In 166 career games against National League West clubs, Giancarlo Stanton owns a.306 average (185x605) with 48 doubles, two triples, 56 home runs, 151 RBI, a.390 on-base percentage and.669 slugging percentage. He leads all active players (min. 500 AB) in slugging percentage against the NL West, and ranks seventh in batting average and ninth in on-base percentage. His 56 home runs against the NL West rank second to Ryan Howard's total (67) among all players who did not play for an NL West club. HE LOVES LA Giancarlo Stanton owns a career.322 batting average (38x118) with 12 home runs and 30 RBI with a.703 slugging percentage and a 1.083 OPS in 32 games vs. the Dodgers, and has hit.318 (21x66) with eight home runs and 21 RBI with a.742 slugging percentage and a 1.126 OPS in 18 games at Dodger Stadium. According to STATS LLC, Stanton owns the highest career slugging percentage against the Dodgers by an opponent (min. 100 ABs), and the highest career slugging percentage at Dodger Stadium (min. 50 ABs). RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE Christian Yelich ranks fourth in the National League and MLB with a.371 batting average, behind Aledmys Diaz (.468), Daniel Murphy (.391) and Ryan Braun (.373). Yelich entered this season with a career.260 mark in April, including hitting just.200 (9x45) last April before finishing the season at the.300 mark. Yelich s.371 (26x70) batting average currently ranks third in Club history for April, behind Dee Gordon (.409 in 2015) and Mike Lowell (.385 in 2002). His.489 on-base percentage this season is second to Luis Castillo (.500 OBP in 2000) for the highest ever by a Marlins player in April. ROAD WORK Christian Yelich has hit safely in 10 of the Marlins 11 road games this season, batting.400 (16x40) with four doubles, a home run, six RBI and seven walks. His batting average on the road is tied with teammate J.T. Realmuto for sixth in MLB, and tied for fifth in the NL, while his.500 on base percentage is tied for fourth in the Majors. Realmuto, with eight hits over the past four games, has raised his road batting average to.400 (14x35). As a club, the Marlins are hitting.280 (108x386) in road contests, the fourth-best in the Majors, third in the NL, compared to.248 (76x306) at home, which ranks seventh in the NL. GETTING HIS STEPS IN Christian Yelich has reached base safely via hit, walk or hit by pitch in each of his 20 games played this season. His streak of 20 games is the third-longest active streak in MLB to start the season; Joe Mauer leads with a 22-game streak, and Eric Hosmer is second at 21. HOT START Martín Prado, who was 3x4 last night, continues his hot start this season, posting a.362 (21x58) batting average, with a.406 on-base percentage and.431 slugging percentage for a.837 OPS. His.362 average is his best career mark in April (min. 50 AB), ahead of a.356 mark in April of 2010 for the Braves. His OBP and OPS also rank second in his career for the month of April, also trailing his 2010 season in which he was named an NL All-Star.
