FISH BITES The Marlins continue a 10-game homestand with the third game of this four-game set against the St. Louis Cardinals tonight at 7:10 p.m. Miami is starting newly-acquired RHP Colin Rea, who in three career starts against the Cardinals is 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA. St. Louis is countering with LHP Jaime Garcia, who in five career starts against the Fish has gone 2-0 with a 1.99 ERA. Tonight's national anthem will be performed by Laila Garcia, and ceremonial first pitches will be thrown by former Marlins' All-Star Alex Gonzalez, Ronnie Billie, Dr. Eduardo Alfonso and Braydon Dunbar. Tonight is the ninth All-Star Saturday at Marlins Park, and the first 5,000 fans through the gates will receive an Alex Gonzalez 1999 All-Star bobblehead, courtesy of UHealth. The Marlins are recognizing the 2015 Senior Division RBI Champions in a pregame ceremony on RBI Night. The Fish have gone 3-5 over their homestand, dropping two of three against the Mets and going 2-1 against Philadelphia. Miami is 8-7 thus far on a 20-game stretch without an off-day to begin the second half. LAST NIGHT VS. ST. LOUIS The Marlins pitching staff couldn't contain the Cardinals offense, dropping an 11-6 decision. After allowing three runs in the top of the second inning, Marcell Ozuna ripped his 18 th home run of the season, and first since July 1 at Atlanta, to bring Miami within two runs. However, the Cardinals struck for six runs in the top of the fifth for a 9-1 lead. Not to be outdone, the Fish pushed five runs across the plate in their half of the frame. The first two runs were plated on consecutive RBI doubles by Miguel Rojas and Chris Johnson, and two batters later, Martín Prado lifted a three-run home run to left field. Miami received multi-hit efforts from Dee Gordon (2x4), Prado (2x4) and Ozuna (2x4). TODAY'S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today optioned RHP José Ureña to Triple-A New Orleans and recalled RHP Brian Ellington from NOLA. This is Ellington's second stint with Miami this season, as he went 1-1 with a 0.79 ERA (11.1 ip/1 er) over 10 games from June 5-July 1. In 29 games with the Zephyrs, he owns a 1-0 record and 3.13 ERA (31.2/11). PLEASURE TO MEET YOU, MR. REA Colin Rea is making his first start with Miami after being acquired from San Diego yesterday. Rea has made 18 starts this season for the Padres, recording at least 5.0 innings pitched 15 times. He has allowed three or fewer runs in 11 of those 15 outings, and has seven quality starts. He has received a run support average of 6.22, which ranks sixth in the National League, behind Jake Arrieta (7.28), Stephen Strasburg (6.77), Scott Kazmir (6.73), Jorge De La Rosa (6.46) and Chad Bettis (6.38). RETURN OF THE MAC In his first stint with Miami this season, Dustin McGowan went 0-1 with a 3.38 ERA (5.1 ip/2 er) and.286 average against (6x21) over six games. Since returning to the Major League Club on May 11, he has posted a 1-1 record and 2.75 ERA (36.0/11) with a.142 average against (17x120). On the season, McGowan ranks seventh among National League relievers in opponents average (.163), behind Pedro Strop (.147), Fernando Rodney (.149), Boone Logan (.152), Kenley Jansen (.153), Pedro Baez (.160) and Seung Hwan Oh (.162). HEATING UP THE HOT CORNER Over his last 13 games at Marlins Park, Martín Prado has been on fire, batting.500 (23x46) with eight doubles, two home runs and 15 RBI. He has collected at least one hit in 12 of those games, including eight multi-hit affairs. Over that span he has raised his home average from.217 to.286. On the season, Prado leads all qualifying Major League third basemen in average with a.327 mark, ahead of Yunel Escobar (.322). PRADO'S PROWESS Martín Prado ranks fifth in the Majors in terms of average on the season, behind Jose Altuve (.356), Daniel Murphy (.351), Wilson Ramos (.332) and Xander Bogaerts (.331). Prado's 36 multi-hit games this season are tied for 12 th in the Majors and tied for fourth in the NL, behind Daniel Murphy (41), Carlos Gonzalez (37) and Jean Segura (37). He leads the NL in games with three or more hits (14) and is tied with five others, including teammate J.T. Realmuto, for the NL lead in 4+ hit games (3). BIG FISH SWINGIN' A BIG STICK Over his last 35 games, Giancarlo Stanton has turned his season around, batting.314 (43x137) with 10 home runs, 30 RBI, a.377 on-base percentage and.606 slugging percentage. That is in stark contrast from the previous 29 games that saw him hit.118 with two home runs, five RBI, a.211 OBP and.216 SLG. - Stats LLC LET THE RECORD SPEAK With their win on Wednesday afternoon, the Marlins clinched their fourth straight month with a.500 record to open the season, marking the first time it has been done in Franchise history. Including September 2015, when Miami went 16-10, they are have now recorded five consecutive winning months. Prior to this season, Miami had just five winnings months over the previous four seasons. The four months with a record over.500 this season matches the most in any season in Club history, equaling 2009, '08 and 1997. SWEET SWINGIN' LEFTY Christian Yelich has been putting together his finest season since coming to the Majors, batting.316 with 10 home runs, 55 RBI, a.394 on-base percentage and.483 slugging percentage. His average, HR, RBI, OBP and SLG are all career-bests. He needs four doubles to have 30 in each of the last three seasons and become the sixth Marlins player in Franchise history to have three-or-more consecutive seasons of 30+ doubles. Dating back to June 27, 2015, Yelich owns the third-highest average among all Major League hitters at.333, behind Jose Altuve (.344) and Xander Bogaerts (.335). HIT SQUAD Miami leads the National League and ranks second in the Majors with 970 hits, trailing only Boston (1031). The Fish are averaging 9.4 hits a game in 2016, the highest mark in Club history, ahead of the 2007 team that averaged 9.3. The Marlins.271 average as a team again ranks second in MLB to the Red Sox (.289), and would rank as the second-highest team average in a single-season in Club history, behind 2005 (.272).
