Family Programs at the ymca - Wright Crescent Family Pickleball Drop-In Non- Single Access Pass Rate A combination of table tennis, badminton and tennis using a wiffle ball and solid paddles. This game is fun for the whole family! No experience necessary. This weekly drop-in class will give you a chance to jump high, push hard and pull your weight! Plyometrics, also known as jump training or plyos, are exercises in which muscles exert maximum force in short intervals of time, with the goal of increasing power (speedstrength). Fitness Leadership Learning Academy YMCA Of Kingston Personal Training Certification Fall 2017 Scope of Practice: May suggest exercise and give healthy living and eating advice to: - Individuals in good health - Individuals with stable chronic conditions - Individuals that seek general strength training and cardiovascular fitness plans Certification is not designed for: - Therapy or assessment and correction of conditions or injuries - Training sport specific athletes, bodybuilders or individuals in similar categories - Women who are pregnant and want to start an exercise plan - People with multiple chronic conditions or those newly diagnosed Certification Path: 1. Classroom and Wiki Assignments successfully completed (approx. 45-50 hours) 2. Demonstrate and Describe Exam with YMCA Educator 3. Written Exam (80% to pass) 4. Case Study (Peer Teach 20 hours) 5. Adaptive Programming Y Penguins Aquatic Club - Wright Crescent - September 19 th 2017 May 31 st 2018 The Kingston Y Penguins Aquatic Club is a swim team for children with physical disabilities and their able-bodied siblings. Participants learn through sport, how to set goals and develop self-discipline, while building self-confidence. The heart of the program is learning how to maintain a positive attitude while nourishing a focus on ability. New registrants please contact Vicki Keith, at Vicki_keith@ kingston.ymca.ca, prior to registering. Independence in the water is encouraged for new participants but not required. Siblings should be able to swim one length of the pool. Families will determine the number of training sessions per week for each participant directly with the coach. A minimum of 2 practices per week is required. Junior Penguins monday & Wednesday 5:00PM 5:45 PM 6+ years (co-ed) $255.00 plus YMCA Membership Fee This group includes swimmers who are not registered as competitive swimmers yet. As part of this membership fee Junior Penguins receive a team T shirt and bathing cap. (These swimmers can participate in the annual Y Penguins swim meet The Big Chill). Development Penguins Monday Thursday 3:30PM 5:00 PM $460.00 plus YMCA Membership Fee This group includes competitive swimmers up to 14 years of age. As part of their membership Development Penguins also recieve a bathing suit, a ll meet fees, Swim Ontario fees and Swimming Canada fees. Senior Penguins monday Thursday 3:30PM 5:00 PM Friday 6:00AM 7:00 AM $560.00 plus YMCA Membership Fee This group includes competitive swimmers over 15 years of age, as well as any Penguin who is swimming at the Provincial and National level. As part of their membership Senior Penguins also recieve a bathing suit, a ll meet fees, Swim Ontario fees and Swimming Canada fees. We use our fully certied instructors to ensure a learning plan that is right for your child. This allows children and youth to learn at their own pace and focus on their goals in a safe environment. Adults: Learning to swim later in life can be a fun, rewarding experience. Adults learn differently than children and our instructors are trained in adult education to go step-by-step and teach you foundational techniques to master your swimming moves with private adult swimming lessons. Our private swim lessons can be catered to adults wishing to improve their fitness in the water. Adult Athletes: Already know how to swim? Private swim training is available for those who want to work on their endurance and stamina. We provide specialized swim training for swimmers participating in triathlons. Swim Prices - 1 hour lesson blocks that can be broken into 30 and 45 minute blocks. Become a Lifeguard - Wright Crescent Step 1 Bronze Star Under 14 years of age Members/Non- $80.00 The Bronze Star is a transitional introductory lifesaving course. It is excellent preparation for the bronze medallion course. Participants develop problem-solving and decision-making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard. Includes a timed 400 m swim. Tues., Wed., Thurs. 10AM - 3PM Jul. 4, 5, & 6 Step 2 Bronze Medallion & Emergency B Must be 13 years of age or have completed Bronze Star Members/Non- $175.00+HST Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water-rescue education - judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn tows and carries, and defence methods and releases in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims of various types. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a 500 m timed swim. mon. - Fri. 10AM - 4:30PM Jul. 10 - July 14 mon. - Fri. 10AM - 4:30PM Jul. 31- Aug. 4 Step 3 Bronze Cross & Standard First Aid with CPR C Must have completed Bronze Medallion & Emergency B or Standard First Aid (current or not current) Members/Non- $225.00+HST Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for all advanced training programs including National Lifeguard and Instructor certifications. The Bronze Cross course includes a 600 m timed swim. National lifeguard training develops a strong understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment as well as a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguards role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid training. Standard First Aid incorporates all of Emergency First Aid and is designed for those who require a more in-depth understanding of first aid including; legal implications of first aid treatment, spinal injuries, heat or cold injuries an pone and joint injuries, chest injuries and medical emergencies. This includes a CPR C Certification. They may recertify only with the original recertifying agency.** **WSIB rules state that anyone holding a first aid certificate can only be recertified by the original certifying agency. Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid and CPR C certfication is required two (2) years after your original certification. The National Lifeguard recertificatinon is required every two (2) years.
