Issue 2-18 April 2013 J u n i or W e bs i t e: w ww. w hi t t l eseafc.c om. a u/j u n i or s /i n d e x. ht m l Season 2013 off and Running A mixed bag of results for the Eagles teams in the 1st round. The Under 9 s featured in the President s Match and the White team got to have the privelege of being the first junior side to use the new Away Rooms The boys had lots of fun and the new coaches Cam and Adam, got to see what their charges were capable of. From all reports they were both very impressed with the way the boys went about their business. Dave and his Under 10 s chalked up a solid win against Northcote. It was obviousl that the team has listened and adapted to Dave s team approach. This week they head down the road to take on Mernda in what wll be a tough affair. Mick has got his Under 11 s into top gear with an impressive win over Monty and he is keen to test them again next round, when they take on Greensborough at Beale Oval. The Under 12 s got hit by a red hot South Morang outfit who are up and running. With injuries and a number of new faces in our squad, it was a baptism of fire for some of them who had not played up in the top division before. It doesn t get any easier with Monty our next opponent at home. Warren is keen to take on the old foe in Epping. His Under 13 s chalked up a good win against Greensborough, a team that has come down from Division 1. It will be a tough task but one Warren and his boys are relishing. Dave and his Under 14 s ran into an obviously strong Keon Park side and they will be keen to atone for that result, with a strong showing against Research at the Showgrounds this Sunday. The Under 15 s put up a great performance against a South Morang side that won the Division 1 flag last season and had gone out and recruited in order to consolidate their dominance. Our boys had other ideas and took it right up to them in a game that coach Luke described as the best four quarters they have played under his guidance. Northcote are likely to be an equally tough opponent at home this week. The Under 17 s played Research at Monty s ground and gave a good account of themselves. They are a young team and will undoubtedly progress as the season goes on. Mill Park are their next opponents at the Showgrounds. Page 2 Presidents Report The Under 9 boys played the President s Match in the opening round. It was a good opportunity for the coaches and managers to get their processes into place and also to observe how the boys were responding to the expert coaching they have been receiving! The new Away Rooms were used by one of the Under 9 teams. They are a great asset for our club, especially after the other rooms our visiting teams had to put up with. There was favourable comment from the visiting teams. We need to monitor the condition of the room and I would ask the Junior Team Managers to help here. After your game just check there is no damage done and if there is, take note of the team who last used the rooms and if you can get a photo of the damage. Notify myself or a member of the Executive Committee. The NFL have listed a number of issues arising from Round 1 including officials not wearing their armbands, poor language coming from the coaching area, boundary umpires coaching on the ground and ill discipline in the Under 16 & 17 age groups. Water carriers are also reminded when not delivering water, they must stay in the areas that are marked for them - the umpires will award a free kick and a 50 metre penalty if you stray. Medics, trainers & water carriers must wear the new bibs. Congratulations are in order to the following boys who have been picked for the NFL training squads; Under 14 Under 15 Henry Bland & Liam Flatley. Brayden Avola, Clancy Bland, Jacob Tyrrell, Jacob Bateman, Matt Coen, Joel Brennan & Connor Leslie Good luck to all the teams in Round 2 and also to all the Auskick boys & girls who start their programme at Walker Reserve this Saturday. The Juniors are pleased to be the sponsors of the first BBQ. We need another container as we are running out of storage space. If anyone has a contact in this area could they please call me. Thank you. Mick Leslie President Whittlesea Junior Football Club 0447 581 256

Email - leanneb@mlbbuildingvic.com.au President s Match - Whittlesea Gold v Whittlesea It was an exciting day for many of us, for some it was their first football game, others first time Coaching, Managing or just watching our children play football. The first game of the Season was enjoyed by all. The boys played well showing great skill and team work, they all put into practice what they have been learning at training and both coaches could not be more proud of them. The coaches and managers would like to take this opportunity to thank all involved for a great start to the season. Well done Eagles. Weekly Awards: Mitchell Welsh, Oscar Parkinson, Liam Newport, Jay Allen, Harley Fraumano, Kynan Lehner, Seth Jackson, James Kolev, Tommy Burns and Luke Luscombe UNDER 10 Whittlesea def. Northcote Firstly I would like to this opportunity in welcoming all the new players and parents to the Whittlesea Football Club for season 2013. As our first official game, the boys seemed to have bonded very quickly in all facets of the game. It was very pleasing to see how much the boys have progressed in such a short time, the TEAM game was evident from the first bounce. As a first up win I`d have to say it was a great TEAM effort. This week we head down to Mernda, 10am start. To be at the ground by 9.20am Good Luck to all the teams this week Go Eagles

Page 4 MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 1 UNDER 11 Whittlesea def. Montmorency After a long preseason, the reigning premiers from last year were ready to show that they were ready for season 2013. They didn t disappoint anyone, from the opening bounce they showed great endeavour and attack at the ball. The way in which every player played their role and followed instructions was one of the most pleasing things to see. The opposition never got a look in as we spread and ran the ball, using it unselfishly all day, we hit up targets constantly and kept the scoreboard ticking over at a rapid rate. The team knows that results like this only come from hard work. We will now focus on next week and look for continued improvement. Go Eagles. UNDER 12 Whittlesea def. by South Morang We played a very skilled, determined & team orientated South Morang. They showed us how footy can & will be played in the Under 12 s top division this year. TEAM SPONSOR NEEDED A great way to promote your business Please contact Leanne Bland to discuss listing your business here. Email - If we don't display these qualities quickly as a team similar results will occur this year. However if we decide to knuckle down, work hard at training, listen to our coaches & have a more disciplined attitude we can also play a style of footy to match what we saw on the weekend. I have faith but it s going to take each player to make it happen! leanneb@mlbbuildingvic.com.au UNDER 13 Whittlesea def Greensborough This week the under 13 s took on Greensborough at home who d come down from Blue division last year. This game was always going to be a tight contest and that s how it turned out with their height always a concern. Billy Goodwin had dominated the first half despite giving away inches in the ruck with 3 goals and Aidan Rizzotto was impassable at half back putting us in a good position at three quarter time going in a goal in front. TEAM SPONSOR NEEDED A great way to promote your business Please contact Leanne Bland to discuss listing your business here. Email - leanneb@mlbbuildingvic.com.au At the break the message was to run hard and attack the game and the whole team lifted to dominate the last quarter and runaway with a stirring 5 goal win. Our captain for the day Bailey Stewart continued his great practice match form to blitz on a wing and combined well with Kyle Smith who after having to put up with a tough tag all day just wore him off to dominate late in the game. The run in the last quarter was exhilarating to watch and reminiscent of games played at a much higher level than Under 13 s. A great team effort today and very pleasing to go on with the game after losing from similar positions in the practice matches. Another big game ahead when we tackle arch enemy Epping next week. Let s run them into the ground as well. GO EAGLES. Coaches Sponsor In 2013

Email - leanneb@mlbbuildingvic.com.au UNDER 15 Whittlesea def. by South Morang A great first up game in Divy 1! With South Morang recruiting players over the off season, they were supremely confident in their ability to crush us! But our boys had different ideas and produced the best 4 quarters of football they have played. From the opening bounce where the big skipper Joel Brennan won the contested possession the boys never looked backed. The two boys who deserve big wraps are Jimmy Galvin and Bongo. Their massive efforts in the fullback line not to lose a contest against quality opponents went a long way in putting South Morang off their game plan. The work ethic of Fitzy, Connor, Brayds, Lachy, Clancy, Tiza, Jack T and Presti was fantastic! The two big boys in Matt (Clark Kent) and Jacob (sunshine) Bateman dominated in the ruck and up forward and was great to see in a round 1 match. Lastly to Browny and Sean both back in the blue gold jumper were terrific in their attack on the contest. Keep the intensity up boys! Page 7 The AFL Kids First is a program for leagues and associations to guide parents so that both they and their children obtain the maximum benefit and enjoyment from their participation in junior football. Today s parents have an important role in the delivery and support of sporting activities for their own and other children. With it comes a clear responsibility to act in a constructive and encouraging manner at all times. Barracking and wanting your child to perform well is human nature, but it's critical this should be done in a responsible manner avoiding the ugly parent syndrome at all times. AFL Kids First includes recommendations for leagues, associations and their clubs to manage situations where parents become over-enthusiastic and risk having a negative impact on their children's activities. The basic principles of AFL Kids First are to remind parents that: Sport for children is a vital part of their growing up Children like to win, but more importantly, they want to have fun Parents need to set the right example at the sports ground, not just at home Parents should be proud of their child's efforts irrespective of the result Sport is important to childrens self esteem For full details on the Kids First programme go to: www.aflcommunityclub.com.au/?id=220
