What is the North Georgia Hip Hop Company? North Georgia Hip Hop Company is our pre-professional, performing and competitive dance company that draws its members from Northeast Georgia School of Music and Dance. The company is made up of students ages 6 and up, from beginning, intermediate, and advanced classes at NEGSMD. The company will focus on hip hop styles, and will be governed solely by the Artistic Director, Danielle Aikens. The company is divided up into two levels: Junior, and Senior, that will perform at community events and will compete in area dance competitions and conventions representing NEGSMD. What is a dance competition? A dance competition is an event where dance companies from around the region come to perform and are judged and critiqued by a professional panel. We will be attending three competitions this season, and will carefully choose these to find the ones that best suit our needs. Competitions are a great opportunity to perform in a positive environment. They serve as an excellent learning tool, and are a great place to meet new friends who love dance as much as we do! How do I get accepted into the company? There are 3 ways to be accepted to the company: * Auditions for dancers wanting to join the company. Students are required to audition each year, even if they were a member the previous year. * New students entering the studio after auditions, may audition privately for the director, and will be admitted as long as there are no conflicts with costuming, choreography, etc. * Invitation by Director How is placement decided for the company? Students will be placed by the Director into the appropriate company level. Placement is based on age and ability. For current students of NEGSMD, we will consider previous year's performance, progress, and class attendance, when deciding on placement. The placement of students should not be challenged, as the Director will place students in the level they will perform best for themselves and the company.
What are the requirements? Students must be enrolled in all the required classes for their level. Students may have an additional rehearsal before the first competition, only if necessary. All rehearsals will take place following their regular hip hop class. Please consider your dance schedule when scheduling other activities during the season. It is not acceptable to come to class 20 minutes late for a couple of months out of the year because of softball practice! This is a team effort, and we must be fair to all the other dancers in the group! Students must participate in all competitions and performances that the company participates in. All companies will attend 3 competitions. Most of these events will be held in Atlanta area. Students are responsible for competition fees. Competition fees average around $40 per student per dance for groups. Rates are significantly higher for solos, duets, and trios. There are late fees applied if not turned in by a certain time, so we have added the competition fees into the payment schedule on the following pages. Company members must have all required dance wear for classes. Company members may purchase a warm-up suit to wear at competitions/ conventions. This is optional. Company members will be responsible for the purchase of 1 costume for company and 1 costume for recital. Costumes average $60-$85 per costume. Company members may choose to do solos, duets, or trios, with Director's permission. This will require additional competition, costume, and choreography fees. This is OPTIONAL. Some members may choose to take additional classes at the studio. These classes will require additional costume purchases, which vary from $55-$65 per costume. How much is tuition? Tuition includes the weekly hip hop class and company rehearsal time that follows. All company tuition must be paid using our automatic withdrawal by ACH or credit/debit card. Tuition will be due on the first of each month. We will also debit competition and costume fees on the first of required month, unless they have been paid in advance. Juniors & Seniors tuition: $85.00 per month If you choose to pay for the year in full by August 5, you will receive 10% off of your yearly tuition. If you choose to do so, you will still need to provide a credit/debit card or bank account information for the additional fees. This is mandatory. All fees and tuition are non-refundable!
