Page 1 of 6 Parks and Recreation Department City Council Report Aquatic and Fitness Center Membership The membership statistics for the Aquatic and Fitness Center as of December 31, 2010 show 2000 membership packages representing 3453 individual members. This is an increase of 100 membership packages compared to December of 2009. The staff is preparing for the annual migration of Winter Friends in January. This includes 1587 lap swimmers, 2463 recreational swimmers, and 977 participants in water fitness classes. Swim Teams: The NMB Dolphins continued practice on Mon/Wed/Fri. For December there were 12 swimmers The Grand Strand Masters Swim Team continued practice. There were 16 swimmers registered for December. Swimming Lessons: Saturday swim lessons begin on January 15. Adult Swim Lessons begin on January 15.

Page 2 of 6 January Events: January 22, 2011: The Aquatic and Fitness Center and the Grand Strand Masters Swim Team will host a Masters Swim Clinic with Olympic Swimmer Rowdy Gaines. Fitness Programs Land class participation 2187 Class average: 12.4 December 2009 Land class participation 1800 Class average: 11 Fitness Usage Total of 10,401 participants Fitness orientations for the month: 68 Child Watch Program Averaged 8 participants in the morning program Total - 207 visits Averaged 2 participants in the evening program Total - 50 visits Gymnasium totaled 5 children. Adult gym participation average was 41 with a total of 532 visits. Events After School Program has 17 kids registered. Parent s Night Out was held on December 10 with 10 kids registered. We had a Member Birthday Party held on December 3 with 13 participants. We hosted a Non-Member Birthday Party on December 18 with 15 participants. Open Volleyball is on Wednesday nights and had 15 participants. Customer Service Total Tours: 52 Number of In-State Tours: 37 Number of Out-of-State Tours: 15 Number that joined: 15

Page 3 of 6 Recreation Athletics Winter Basketball Basketball practices and games continued in December. Over 200 kids registered for the basketball season. NMB Night will be held on February 4 at the high school basketball games. All kids wearing their recreation league jerseys will get in free. We will have teams scrimmaging at halftime of the boy s games. Sports Tourism / Miscellaneous Continued working with NCSI in preparation for spring training 2011. Entered into an agreement with AAU/Game on sports to bring youth baseball/softball tournaments to NMB in 2011. Tournaments will be held at the newly renovated Central Park facility. Fourteen weekend tournaments will be held. In addition to the weekend tournaments, AAU has offered to sign a long term agreement with NMB to bring their summer national baseball/softball tournaments here, contingent on a new facility being built. Met with the USBA Tournament Staff. We have secured another three year contract with USBA for them to continue bringing their national tournaments to NMB. The event brings in an estimated 4 million+ to our community. This contract begins in 2012 and runs through 2014. Keep NMB Beautiful The KNMBB Christmas cookout scheduled for December 14 was cancelled due to bad weather. The next KNMBB meeting is January 11, 2011 at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center. Entertainment for the festival has been finalized. Page 6 of 6 Beach Services Job postings are online for the 2011 season. Items such as vehicles and communication devices are being evaluated for repair or replacement for the 2011 season. New concession push carts are being considered for the 2011 season. New Lifeguard umbrellas have superior visibility to allow patrons to better identify Lifeguard locations. Lifeguard Stands are being evaluated to address safety issues versus tent height regarding the new ordinance. Planning continues for North Myrtle Beach to host the 2011 USLA Regional Lifeguard Championship on July 13 and 14.
