VSL Mining & Tunneling Bolt systems VSL offers three type of bolting system for the mining & Tunnelling industry VSL-S Solid Threaded bolts. Continuous Hot rolled threaded bars in grade B500, S670, B450 & S650. VSL-B Self drilling Injection Anchor Bolts. Self Drilling Anchor bolts are used for anchoring in poor ground, cohesive and non cohesive soils and in case of unstable bore holes. Also used for reinforcement ahead of the tunnel face in terms of spiles or umbrella support or other support application VSL-E Expansion or Friction bolts. The Expansion bolt is temporary rock reinforcement in mining & tunnelling, bonding forces between the friction bolt and rock masses are caused by form closure and friction transfer between the bore hole wall and the bolt which is expanded by water pressure. VSL-E BOLT SYSTEMS VSL-E Bolt Systems - Friction or Expansion bolts Bolting for tunnels and gallery, provides quick fixing & anchoring with high safety VSL-E Bolting-Systems range features friction or expansion bolt with superior product characteristics to meet the most demanding roof support applications. The elongation properties allow for substantial rock movements without shearing the bolts. The rock bolts are manufactured according to the ISO 9002 standards. The bolt is now secured into place D - Withdrawal of the water pump from the end bushing. Bolting is now completed. VSL-B BOLT SYSTEMS VSL-B Bolt Systems - Self drilling injections anchor bolt system An economical and simple self-drilling anchor system. Also suitable for difficult grounds (clay, sand, friable etc.). The anchor rod also serves as drill bar. The anchor is fixed by injecting cement mortar through the central hole of the rod. Installation Installation of VSL-B Bolt Systems - Self drilling anchors the same pneumatic or hydraulic drilling equipment is used as for normal drilling. The self -drilling anchors can be grouted both during and after drilling. According to the soil characteristics the following aspects have to be decided upon: 1. Type of drilling head Tempered for soft soils With WIDIA insert for hard soils Special heads for clay 2. The drilling head diameter suitable to the selected type of corrosion protection and of the rock coinsistence. 3. The anchor length According to the type of drilling carriage the anchor length is normally 3 to 4 meters, for deep anchors special coupling sleeves can be used. Cement Comsumption Special equipment can be installed on our grouting pumps to measure the effective grout consumption. Site Acceptance We provide special systems with hand or electric pumps for pretensioning or breaking load test of the installed anchors. Materials The basic material of the VSL-B Bolt Systems - Self drilling Anchor is a special steel pipe with narrow tolerance, on which is machined a cold rolled continuous thread. The sleeves are fabricated from special steel pipes and have a higher tensile strength than the anchor rod. The nuts are made of special hot pressed steel and are treated after fabrication to guarantee the requested resistance. Corrosion Protection 1. Simple protection - is supplied by the cement plaster or resin plaster or resin which surrounds the anchor. The thickness of protecting layer is normally: 10mm in rock and 20mm in loose material. In order to guarantee a constant thickness of the plaster or resin covering we recommend the use of spacers. 2. A double corrosion protection is possible through: Painting with special paints after adequate surface preparation Electrical galvanizing and if requested, painting with epossidic paints. Wrapping of the anchor in a plastic or steel pipe grouted with cement grout or polyurethane. Wrapping of the anchor in a hot shrink pipe. For special purposes we recommended the use of stainless steel anchors. R103 103 2920 22.93 1980 1636 935 Pretensioning By using a plastic or steel pipe (in some cases injected with polyurethane) it is possible to pretension a part of the anchor. Product certifications 1. Steel factory certificate - Our pipe suppliers provide to us a certificate from the steel factory for each casting 2. Shop tests - Anchors and all accessories are constantly submitted to severe test in our shop, following a detailed test programme in accordance with the requirements of the EN ISO 9001:2000 quality assurance standards. 3. Certification by external authorities - Periodically the quality of our products is certified by external, internationally recognized authorities. 9
