FISH BITES The Marlins, looking to avoid a sweep, close out their three-game series against the Giants today at AT&T Park in San Francisco, the third game (0-2) of a 10-game road trip for the Fish. LHP Adam Conley (0-1, 4.61), who is facing the Giants for the first time in his career, is starting for Miami today. He is making his third day game start of the season, out of four starts overall. Starting for San Fran is RHP Matt Cain (0-2, 6.46); he has made 15 career starts vs. Miami, going 6-5, 3.49. His last start against the Fish was July 2 last season, taking the loss in a 5-4 Marlins win in Miami. Following today s game, The Marlins head south to Los Angeles for a four-game series against the Dodgers that starts tomorrow night, before closing out the trip with three games in Milwaukee next weekend (April 29-May 1). LAST NIGHT AT SAN FRANCISCO Miami fell to the Giants, 7-2, at AT&T Park. José Fernández (1-2) took the loss, allowing 4 runs in 6.0 innings. The Giants scored twice in the bottom of the first and, after Miami cut the deficit in half in the top of the third, added two more runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Justin Bour had three of the Marlins eight hits, while Derek Dietrich (1x3, 2B) and Marcell Ozuna (1x4, 3B) drove in the Marlins two runs. Cody Ege made his MLB debut in relief, allowing a run in 1.0 inning of relief. UP NEXT The Marlins travel to Los Angeles for a four-game series at Dodger Stadium that starts tomorrow night. The series marks the return of Marlins manager Don Mattingly, who skippered the Dodgers from 2011-2015, cumulating a 446-363 mark. The Marlins were 2-4 against the Dodgers last season, 1-2 at Dodger Stadium. All-time, Miami is 79-96 vs. Los Angeles, just 37-48 at Dodger Stadium. BEST AGAINST THE WEST In 162 career games against National League West clubs, Giancarlo Stanton owns a.301 average (178x591) with 47 doubles, two triples, 53 home runs, 144 RBI, a.385 on-base percentage and.657 slugging percentage. He leads all active players (min. 500 AB) in slugging percentage against the NL West, ranks ninth in batting average and tied for 10 th in on-base percentage. His 53 home runs against the NL West rank second to Ryan Howard's total (67) among all players who did play for an NL West club. DON'T GET SWEPT UP The Marlins are trying to avoid being swept by the Giants in a three-game series for the first time since May 4-6, 2010 in Miami. The last time the Marlins were swept in a three-game series in San Francisco was Aug. 14-16, 2001. REACH OUT AND TOUCH 'EM ALL Ichiro Suzuki has just one hit in 11 career at bats during the regular season at AT&T Park. He was, however, 3x3 with a home run and 2 RBI in the 2007 All-Star Game here. In the fifth inning of that game, Ichiro hit the only inside-the-park home run in All-Star Game history en route to being named the MVP of the 2007 Midsummer Classic as the AL won 5-4. 7 UP Christian Yelich has seven hits in 13 at-bats from the seventh inning on. His.538 average from the seventh inning on is second in the Majors, while his.650 on base percentage leads MLB. Yelich has recorded one double and one home run to go along with six walks after the sixth inning, while hitting a mere.350 (14x340) in innings 1-6. RIGHT OUT OF THE GATE Christian Yelich ranks second in the National League, third in MLB, with a.396 batting average, behind Washington s Daniel Murphy (.411) and Baltimore s Manny Machado (.397). The only Marlins player ever to hit.400 or better for the month of April was Dee Gordon, who it.406 last April en route to winning the 2015 NL batting title with a.333 average. Yelich entered this season with a career.260 mark in in April, hitting just.200 (9x45) last April. ROAD WORK Christian Yelich has hit safely in each of the Marlins seven road games this season, batting.478 (11x23) with four doubles, a home run, three RBI and seven walks. His batting average and.600 on base percentage on the road both lead the Majors, while his 1.383 OPS on the road is fourth in the Majors, third in the NL. GETTING HIS STEPS IN Christian Yelich has reached base safely via hit or walk in each of his 16 games played this season after going 1x3 last night. His streak of 16 games is tied for the third longest active streak in MLB to start the season; Joe Mauer leads with an 18-game streak, and Eric Hosmer is second at 17. Yelich's 15 walks are for third in the Majors behind Odubel Herrera (17) and Jose Bautista (16). Yelich s.529 on-base percentage leads the Majors. CLIMBING THE LADDER With two hits in Thursday's game against Washington, Ichiro Suzuki moved to within one hit of tying Frank Robinson (2,943) for 33 rd on the MLB all-time hits list. Ichiro is batting.389 (7x18) on the season and is just 58 hits from 3,000. In addition, the next stolen base for Ichiro will be the 500 th of his career. He is currently 39 th on the all-time list, five behind Paul Molitor (504). With one more stolen base, he will become just the eighth player in Major League history to reach 500 career steals and 2,900-plus hits, joining Ty Cobb, Honus Wagner, Paul Molitor, Eddie Collins, Rickey Henderson, Lou Brock and Barry Bonds. - Elias ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT MIAMI MARLINS (5-11) LHP Adam Conley (0-1, 4.61) at SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS (9-10) RHP Matt Cain (0-2, 6.46) AT&T PARK, SAN FRANCISCO, CA Sunday, April 24, 2016 1:05 P.M.
