Mat Latos is making his 12 th career start and appearance against the Giants, going 4-3 with two complete games and a 2.19 ERA. He is being opposed by Ryan Vogelsong, who in nine career games (five starts) against the Fish has gone 3-3 with a 1.99 ERA. Miami entered this road trip completing its second-best nine-game homestand in Club history, going 7-2 against Washington (3-0), the Mets (2-1) and Philadelphia (2-1). The Marlins current road swing started with the Fish dropping two of three to the Washington Nationals, and following today s game, they will travel to Chavez Ravine for a three-game series against the Dodgers. VS. THE GIANTS Miami dropped the 2014 season series against San Francisco, 3-4, but split the four-game series in the City by the Bay. Since 2010, Miami has enjoyed great success at AT&T Park, going 15-6, laying claim to the highest winning percentage (.714) at AT&T among visiting teams in that span. Marlins pitchers own a 3.02 ERA (190.2 ip/64 er) in that time at AT&T, marking the third-lowest ERA among visiting National League teams (St. Louis leads with 2.12). The offense has also posted the second-highest average (.257) at AT&T Park since 2010, behind only Cincinnati (.283). Giancarlo Stanton has flourished against the Giants in his career, owning the second-highest slugging percentage (.685) against them in Major League history (min. 125 PA), trailing only Mark McGwire s mark of.717. - Stats LLC UP NEXT The Fish are off to Southern California following today s affair to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series starting tomorrow at 10:10 p.m. ET. Miami and Los Angeles split the 2014 series, 3-3, with Miami dropping two of three at Chavez Ravine. Since 2007, the Fish have a 13-12 edge in LA, but trail the all-time series in LA, 36-46, as well as the all-time overall series, 77-92. Since 2010, Giancarlo Stanton owns the fourth-highest average against the Dodgers with a.333 mark (31x93), while his nine home runs are the most among players outside of the NL West. LAST NIGHT The Marlins guaranteed themselves at least a split of this four-game series, coming away with a 6-2 win over the San Francisco Giants. With no score after three innings, Marcell Ozuna led off the fourth with his second home run of the season. After a walk to J.T. Realmuto, Jeff Baker drove in the inning s second run with a double to left field. Two batters later, Adeiny Hechavarria plated the third run with a double to right field. The Giants cut the lead to two in the fifth, but the Fish added three insurance runs in the eighth for a 6-1 lead. In the inning, Miami scored on a two-run double by Donovan Solano and an RBI single by Hechavarria. Martin Prado and Hechavarria led the offense with two hits each, while Solano and Hechavarria both had two RBI. David Phelps ran his record to 2-0 after allowing just one run on six hits and a walk, with three strikeouts over 6.0 innings. GIANT SLAYER Mat Latos has tossed two complete games against the Giants over his career. The latest was in his last start against the G-Men, when he earned a 2-1 win on June 30, 2012 at AT&T Park. His other complete game was a 1-0 win on May 13, 2010 at AT&T Park while a member of the San Diego Padres. In that contest, he went 1x3 and drove in the game s only run. He is the only pitcher since 2004 to throw a shutout in a 1-0 game and also have the only RBI of the game. The last pitcher to do so prior to Latos was former Giant Russ Ortiz, when he did so on September 19, 2003 against the Marlins while a member of the Atlanta Braves. - Elias CLEANING UP NICELY Since being moved to the clean-up spot in the lineup, Marcell Ozuna is hitting.296 (16x54) with five doubles, two home runs and six RBI in 14 games. His.296 average in the four-hole is tied for eighth in the National League, while his.361 on-base percentage ranks sixth among qualifying hitters. HECH OF A PLAYER Known for his stellar defense, Adeiny Hechavarria is now doing it with his bat, ranking near the top of various offensive categories among shortstops. Among MLB shortstops, he ranks first in hits (37), tied for first in RBI (19), second in runs scored (18) and fourth in average (.319). GORDON S FLASHY STYLE Dee Gordon leads the Majors with his.437 average and 52 hits. He has hit safely in 25 of his 28 games played this season, and currently owns a 12-game hitting streak, which is tied with Wilson Ramos and Addison Russell for the longest active streak in the Majors. Over the streak, he has hit at a.560 clip (28x50) and recorded multiple hits in nine of the 12 games. Gordon is tied with Joey Votto for second in the Majors with 15 multi-hit games, behind Matt Carpenter s 16. Of Gordon s 15, nine have been 3+ hit games, which leads the Majors. HITS KEEP COMING Dee Gordon is the first player since Rod Carew in 1983 to record as many as 52 hits through his first 28 games of the season. Gordon is just the fifth player since 1914 to have as many as 52 hits through his first 28 games, and only the second player to do so since 1960. See complete list, courtesy of Stats LLC, at right. WEST COAST IS THE BEST COAST Over his career, Giancarlo Stanton has excelled when playing against the National League West. Since 2010, his.676 slugging percentage against the West leads the Majors (min. 500 AB), ahead of Paul Goldschmidt (.557). He has tallied 48 home runs against NL West opponents, which are the most among active players for non-nl West teams; Ryan Braun ranks second with 30. Stanton has connected for 11 career home runs against the Giants, tied with Troy Tulowitzki for fourth-most against the Giants since 2010, trailing Carlos Gonzalez (13), Matt Kemp (13) and Paul Goldschmidt (12). MAT LATOS H/W: 6-6/245 Mat Latos is making his seventh start with Miami after completing a 16-start campaign for Cincinnati in 2014, going 5-5 with a 3.25 ERA. Saw limited time after beginning season on DL recovering from offseason knee surgery and did not pitch again after September 7 due to a bone bruise in his right elbow. Is making 12 th career start against the Giants, but his first since June 30, 2012 here at AT&T Park. In that outing, earned a complete-game victory in a 2-1 decision for the Reds. Allowed just two hits and did not issue a walk over his 9.0 innings, while striking out seven. That outing was the third of his four career complete games, two of which have come here at AT&T Park. The other was a one-hitter on May 13, 2010 with San Diego that marked his only career shutout. He allowed just one baserunner in that game, a lead-off single by Eli Whiteside in the sixth inning, and San Diego committed just one error. Additionally, Latos drove in the only run of the 1-0 victory with a fifth-inning single. According to Elias, he is the only pitcher since 2004 to toss a shutout and drive in the only run in a 1-0 win; the last pitcher to do it prior to Latos was Russ Ortiz for Atlanta on Sept. 19, 2003 vs. Florida. Since 2010, when he made his first career start against the Giants, Latos s 2.19 career ERA against them is the second-lowest mark in the Majors (min. 10 starts), behind only Clayton Kershaw (1.53), and ahead of Ian Kennedy (2.42) and Chad Billingsley (2.71). Exited start on April 29 vs. the Mets early due to strained left hamstring. Injury occurred leaving batters box after singling in fifth inning. In first start of season, had shortest career start at just 0.2 inning, allowing seven runs on six hits and two walks on April 7 against Atlanta at Marlins Park. The seven runs allowed tied the third-most he has surrendered in a start in his career, behind two eight-run outings: September 17, 2010 at St. Louis and April 18, 2012 at St. Louis. Following first start, has allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 24 hits and 12 walks with 23 strikeouts over 26.2 innings over five-start stretch (3.38 ERA). Since breaking into Majors in 2009, has amassed 882 strikeouts, which ranks 10 th among National League starters (min. 150 starts). His 8.11 strikeouts/9.0 rank seventh, his 3.40 ERA ranks eighth, while his 979.1 innings rank 13 th and 61 wins rank 14 th. Prior to last season, his 799.0 innings pitched from 2010-2013 were seventh-most among NL starters, while his 51 wins in that span ranked tied for eighth with Cole Hamels.
