European Week of Sport 2017 European Lotteries The Activities of EL and its Members to promote the EWOS in 2017

Introduction As the primary partners of grassroots sport in Europe for decades (providing a sustainable financing to sport of more than 2 bn per year) and taking note of the increasing physical inactivity in Europe, EL is very pleased to be a partner of the European Week of Sport (EWOS). Following the very active promotion of the EWOS by EL and its Members in 2015 and 2016, in 2017 EL once again, driven by its core values, promoted this significant initiative, inspiring and encouraging Europeans to #BEACTIVE The 2nd edition of the European Week of Sport officially opened on Saturday, 23 September 2017 in Tartu and EL for a 3rd consecutive year was once again an active partner of the European Commission in terms of the promotion of the EWOS. As an EWOS partner, EL and its Members actively promoted sport and physical activity all over Europe, through communication activities and national/regional events, sending out a strong message for the benefits of physical activity to European citizens, regardless of age, gender, background and abilities. EL Members that organised/co-organised events along with their national partners were in close cooperation and coordination with their national coordinators. In order to support its members with their communication activities, EL prepared specially for its members a list of proposed social media posts, that could be posted by EL Members. At the same time, taking the partner s status in serious, EL also, as an EWOS partner, made two submissions for the #BEACTIVE Awards. Finally, EL jointly with the European Non-Governmental Sport Organisation and the support of the European Commission, hosted, as part of the European Week of Sport, a policy discussion on the topic Grassroots Sport as a tool for social change: from practice to policy with the participation of 50 attendees and high level speakers from key organisations, including the European Commission, the Council of Europe, UEFA, IOTC. In order to actually support the cause in practice, EL and ENGSO donated on behalf of each speaker 20 EUR to a relevant sports charity Streetleague UK.
2. Communication Activities At a European level, just like in 2015 and 2016 EL added a banner in its homepage, as well as a special EWOS section to its website, raising awareness about the initiative and linking to the EWOS website. A special EL-Sport video has been also developed in view of the European Week of Sport, highligthing the activities of EL Members within the field of sport for social change. EL-Sport video can be accessed here. At a national level, EL Members, just like last year, used their communication platforms (banners on their website, social media posts, posters on their outlets, sending out a strong message for increased physical activity. 3. Events 3.1. Events at a European level EL ENGSO Policy Discussion Grassroots Sport as a tool for social change: from practice to policy peace-building tool. On September 27, EL jointly with ENGSO and with the support of the European Commission, organized a policy discussion, under the topic Grassroots Sport as a tool for social change: from policy to practice. The event comprised 2 main panel sessions. The first focused on the presentation of key initiatives on the ground that have used grassroots sport as a tool against radicalization or for the integration of underprivileged groups. The 2nd panel was a policy discussion among key stakeholders (sport, EU, CoE and Olympic movement) on the role of grassroots sport as a social development and 50 participants attended the EL-ENGSO policy discussion ENGSO President, Carlos Cardoso and Chair of EL Sport WG, Walter de Beauvesier Watson, opened the event (left) - In the first panel, key projects/initiatives and projects on the field (IceHearts, Lottomatica-Vincere da Grandi, UEFA grassroots activities, and DOSB were presented. The methodology, activities, monitoring and evaluation was in depth discussed.

Right: Kairis Ulp (Estonian presidency of the Council) discussed about the role of coaches in sport for development. - EL sponsors participation in the Belfius Brussels Half Marathon EL running team On October 1, the the Belfius Brussels Half Marathon took place in Brussels and EL in order to further encourage Europeans to #BEACTIVE called upon Brussels citizens and stakeholders to join its running team and supported their active participation in the Half Marathon. EL sponsored the registration fee of the runners in its team and provided them with the EL Running-Team T-Shirt to wear the day of the event, showing again its commitment to an active and healthy lifestyle. Eventually, more than 25 runners, including representatives from EU institutions and stakeholders joined the EL running team and had the pleasure to celebrate physical activity in a unique setting. 3.2. Events/Activities by EL Members at national/regional Level OPAP SA, Greece For a third consecutive year, the Greek Lottery, OPAP SA, promoted participation in physical activity and sports, during the European Week of Sport 2017. This year the activation included both the members of the company s Corporate Social Responsibility Program Sport Academies and OPAP S.A. employees. Namely, the national network of 128 Amateur Football Academies that involves and reaches more than 11,000 children, 20,000 parents and 700 coaches received a toolkit on European Week of Sports and was invited to implemented football fun activities. In total 95 Academies participated, organizing the following events: Mixed teams football matches between parents and children, girls and boys Fun games such as football tic tac toe, tug-of -war between parents and children Street football matches
The celebration was launched with a big event in the Doxa Agias Annas Acamedy that is supported by the Sports Academies program. At the event, Paralympic Athletes, football veterans from AEK and Panathinaikos as well as famous representatives of sports offered a unique experience to more than 300 children and parents. Internally, OPAP s employee basketball tournament took place to promote and enhance participation in sport and physical activity, with the big finals taking place on the last day of #BeActive week. Also, in the framework of the European Week of Sports, OPAP s in-house trainers and fitness experts invited employees to participate in a choreography demonstration and well-being sessions (with stretching exercises etc.) in order to inspire them to come together and #BeActive. Additionally, throughout the week easy ways to move around the office & nutritional habits that we can adopt during office hours were demonstrated through an internal campaign promoted via Digital Signage TVs and banners. Last but not least, OPAP realized a Walk to the Roof Challenge, where each employee challenge a colleague of their, to walk to the roof. The overall activation had a positive effect on atmosphere not just on movement!
Jogos Santa Casa, Portugal To celebrate the 2017 edition of the European Week of Sport and as sponsor of some of the main Portuguese Sport Federations, Jogos Santa promoted a wide range of free activities to encourage sport and physical activity. Starting on 23rd September in Jamor, Oeiras, canoeing lovers had the opportunity to get along with renowned athletes such as Fernando Pimenta, k1 5000 canoeing slalom world champion, who also helped the participants to slide down on canoe. Later on, a demanding cycling event Subida à Glória which Jogos Santa Casa has been sponsoring for the past 3 years, took place in Calçada da Glória, Lisbon. The ride consisted of pedaling 265 meters with a moderate slope over 17%. On 24th September, Jogos Santa Casa associated the International Day of University Sport, in Coimbra with activities for students and the public in general, including climbing, paddling, rowing, basketball and sports adapted to disabled people. Jogos Santa Casa also sponsored the portuguese stage of the World Championship of Surf in Carcavelos. There the public in general together with Federation athletes was able to try out sport activities such as basketball, one of the many sport disciplines sponsored by Jogos Santa Casa.
TIPOS, Slovakia On Monday September 25, 2017 in Prešov, TIPOS supported the The SOV educational performance "Touch the Stars" which was designed for pupils from 3rd to 5th year of elementary schools. This included a 60-minute audio-visual performance on sports and Olympic values with supportive sporting activities, cultural and educational activities. The aim was to introduce students to Olympic symbols and ideas, to present them with various sports, to enable them to mediate the real atmosphere of the Olympic Games, to learn their behavior in the spirit of fair play, and to enable them to meet sporting patterns - Olympians who further motivate for sporting activities. Children from Slovakia met big names who performed sport activities for them Zuzana Rehák Štefečeková / holder of 2 silver medals from Olympic games in Beijing and London in TRAP discipline, Peter Gelle Slovac holder of bronze medal in European Championship, Peter Bartoš Slovac holder of silver medal in World Ice hockey Championship. President of Slovac olympic Committe also met the children in this event. SAZKA, Czech Republic In Czech Republic this year again, the 2017 national finals of the Sazka Olympic Combined Events was the opening event for the European Week of Sport. A total of 640 talented sports-children competed with their peers. At the athletic stadium of the Brno University of Technology, children had the opportunity to meet the Olympians and experienced the unforgettable atmosphere of a great sporting event. There was also a #BeActive Village at the event with an accompanying program that highlighted the social overlap of the sport and sought to motivate it. In addition, during the EWoS, people and especially children were part of the OVOV (badge of universality of the Olympic champions) national finals.
SZERENCSEJÁTÉK ZRT., Hungary During the EWOS 2017, the Hungarian National Lottery, SZERENCSEJÁTÉK ZRT. again co-operated with the Hungarian University Sports Federation in order to encourage and inspire Hungarian students to get active during the campaign. SZERENCSEJÁTÉK aimed at relaunching the #BEACTIVE Become a champion every day! program which included a unique sports competition among all Hungarian Universities and Colleges. The event also strongly focused on introducing students to a range of disability sports in order to offer a unique opportunity for an interaction between young people with different abilities all enjoying exercising. They used all communication channels of Szerencsejáték Zrt. (Facebook, company webpage, intranet) to promote the event, but also the Hungarian University Sports Federation and the participating universities, colleges were active to share the news about the #BEACTIVE Become a champion every day! campaign. The event was a great success : this year altogether more than 32.000 students participated in the championship all over Hungary.
Maltco Lotteries, Malta Following the success of 2015 and 2016, MALTCO LOTTERIES jointly with Sports Malta have again chosen Indoor Rowing as an all-rounder exercise whilst also bringing fun because at the end of the day, the idea of the Week of Sports Awareness is to introduce sports into the daily lives, of possibly everyone. This year the event was held on September 30 at one of the biggest sandy beaches on the island and MALTCO was very pleased with the turnout of the participants some of which were professional rowers, others were amateurs whilst others were completely new to any kind of sports altogether, yet they all rowed in their respective categories depending on their age, weight and gender. Seeing teenagers, adults and families, coming together from all over the island, from all aspects of life - just to row and have fun while being introduced to a healthy activity, gave MALTCO a sense of satisfaction that makes all their efforts worth while During the Maltco s Indoor Rowing Challenge this year, Mr. Juan Farrugia broke the World International Record of Rowing Concept 2,500meters on slides, age group 20-29.
Hrvatska Lutrija, Croatia Just as last year and 2015, during the European Week of Sport Hrvatska Lutrija took part in the project organized by Ministry of Science, Education and Sports of Republic of Croatia and European Commission Representation. Hrvatska Lutrija took part in the project organized by Central State Office for Sport and was present at the main national opening event which was held on September 23 in Zagreb - sports village that showcased sporting activities that the general public could then try out. In the sport village Hrvatska Lutrija had the stand where people could play and win prizes (promotional materials of Croatian Lottery). The representatives of Hrvatska Lutrija were also present at the closing event on September 30 in Vukovar which included outdoor exercise. A full video of the activities in Croatia is available here. 4. Being Active at the workplace EL Members have also tried to make sure that their employees actively participate in the Week and try to #BEACTIVE. In Denmark, EL Member, Danske Spil, in the Lottery's intranet informed its employees about the European Week of Sport and made arrangements for them to #BEACTIVE during the Week. Monday morning started with a one-hour run with a running coach and later in the day everyone was invited to do different exercises at their offices. On the way to lunch on Tuesday, people were surprised by music and had to do a limbo-dance into the canteen. To great fun for everyone On Wednesday, the whole company was told to go contact their colleagues personally instead of sending mails inside the company. They were also reminded to count their steps and got a nice reward if they exceeded 5000 steps that day. Thursday everyone was invited to stand up at their desks between 10.30 pm and 11.15 pm, and Friday people could choose to do one or all of the weeks activity - EL Member in Greece, OPAP SA, also motivated its employees to #BEACTIVE in the common areas and rooms during the Week. A basketball tournament was organised as well as a Walk to the Roof Challenge, where each employee challenge a colleague of their, to walk to the roof. The overall activation had a positive effect on atmosphere Having actively supported the 2017 edition of the European Week of Sport, EL and its Members already look forward to promoting sport and physical activity during the 2018 edition of the EWOS!
