Box 46311 Monroeville, PA 15146 Greetings to all. Well 2017 is well under way and already the new Board has met and have come up with some great ideas for the club for the new year. We are still in the early planning stages so if you have any ideas that you want us to look at for this year please bring it to the Board s attention. If you missed the After-Christmas Party at the Antonelli Events Center in North Huntingdon you missed a great party. The food was excellent and Lee Alverson did a great job entertaining everyone with his keyboard skills and songs. There were also some door prizes for some lucky winners. Thanks to Glenn for the great job he did planning this event. There are some Rusty Wallace racing experience events scheduled for the Jennerstown Speedway. If you go to their website you will find all the details and yu can even sign up online. Several members have already signed up for the April 30th and September 16th and 17th session. If you do a little research online you may find coupons at Groupon or similar sites that would lower the rate. There will be information coming out regarding the possibility of doing a bus trip to the Corvette Museum to see the Calloway Corvettes display while it is set up there. Remember that Jack White will have raffle tickets from the Museum at all our events. If you have not already done so, remember to send you membership application to Allen Young to renew your membership in the club. This will ensure that you will continue to receive or have access to the Flying Fiberglass so you can keep up with club news and activities. Also, if you need an identification badge let Allen know. All new members are entitled to one free badge when requested. If you have lost your badge and want another one, let Allen know and he can order one for a nominal charge. Remember, if you hear of the death or illness or accident of any of our members or their immediate families to let Connie Jelovich know so we can send them something to cheer them up or send our condolences. Connie s contact information is in the newsletter. The Presidential Blog VISIT CCWP.ORG Another reminder that if you have any ideas for events that you would like to see the club coordinate be sure to let me or Sue Marnell know so we can look into them. One of my goals every year is to try and do some of the activities that the members have suggested on the surveys that were distributed at the end of the Vette season. I view involvement as not only participating in activities and events but also contributing your ideas and suggestions and being part of the planning process. I ve experienced first hand that being part of a team is a rewarding experience. You get to know other members on a more casual basis and can form friendships that you can t do just by seeing people at meetings or events. An additional benefit is that most planning meetings are at a restaurant so you get an extra night out. We are all never too old to learn how to have more fun. Driving your Corvette is one way to do that. As the saying goes, Try it, you ll like it. Thank you all for your support. Hope to see you at the next membership meeting on Monday, March th at 7:00 pm at the Lamplighter Restaurant in Delmont. Feel free to contact me at: E-mail: fpaolo@comcast.net or phone: 724-842- 6001. Mark your calendars and plan on attending to see what s bring planned for 2017. Hope to see you there! Museum News The NCM s Museum in Motion is headed to Charlotte, NC May 8-12, 2017 for a race themed weekend. The trip includes the NASCAR Hall of Fame Museum, Charlotte Motor Speedway, various NASCAR race shops, a visit to Rick Hendrick s Heritage Center and Michael Curb s Museum for Music and Motorsports and a private garage tour. Space is very limited. See website for prices. The Museum has recently changed some things in their Performance area and have created a six-car mini display that features fuel injected Corvettes from the early days of Corvette s racing history. If you are interested in following the Museum s car show tour check out the Museum s website for dates and locations. 30 years ago Callaway and Corvette teamed up make Corvettes a little faster. To celebrate the anniversary of that partnership the Museum s Exhibit Hall is displaying 15 examples of this high performance Corvette. The exhibit officially opened January 13th and will end May 5th, 2017. This summer the Museum will host a special Greenwood Corvette exhibit that will feature cars by the American automotive performance tuning and racing company that specializes in Corvette sports cars and racing cars. The company was founded by brothers Burt and John Greenwood and the exhibit will show 14 examples of their work. The exhibit dates are May 12-September 18, 2017. Planning is under way for the next Corvette Caravan that will mark the Museum s 25th Anniversary. It is slated for Labor Day weekend 2019 (August 28-31). Mark your calendars. We are hoping to have another lunch at Tom Henry s and that is tentatively scheduled for a date in March. As soon as we hear anything definite we will get the word out. Debbie Cassel is working on an outing to Watkins Glen in April and there are more details about that event in this newsletter. Pat Hilyard is looking into organizing a bus trip to the National Corvette Museum to see the Calloway exhibit. That would probably be in April, and as soon as we have details available they will go out to the membership to gauge interest in the trip. We also have dates for our car shows at the Creekside Activity Center in Latrobe. The Spring Vette Show is set for May 7th and the Fall show is set for a September date. We have lots of ideas that we are working on and, as always, welcome any suggestions you, the members, may have, so let me know if there is something you think the club might be interested in and we ll see what we can do to make it happen. Page 8 CCWP Lap Woodward Dream Cruise In 2017 the CCWP Lap is planning on traveling out of state again, this time visiting Michigan for the Woodward Dream Cruise. The date of the actual cruise is Saturday, August 19, 2017, but it is actually a week long event. We are planning on going up Tuesday, August 15th and staying through Saturday, leaving Sunday the 20th. About one million people attend this event each year. It s all about cars and cruising, partying with friends, people and car watching, and then more cars. There is no fee to drive in the cruise and no admission fee to watch the show. There is information about the cruise available on the website http://woodwarddreamcruise.com. There is a gentleman that organizes a number of tours and events for Corvette owners and we are going to include a number of these in the agenda. We are also looking into the possibility of touring the Ford museum while we are there. Jan Hollabaugh was generous enough to step up and take care of our accommodations. She has reserved a block of rooms at the Somerset Inn, 2601 West Big Beaver Rd. Troy, MI 48084 for us for the dates Tuesday, August 15 through Saturday, August 19. There are 2 types of rooms. Tower rooms are on floors 3 through 14 and they have 1 Queen or 2 Double Beds and the cost is $105 per night plus taxes (about 13.3% combined) for a total of about $119 per night. Executive Wing rooms are on the 1st and 2nd floors and have either 1 King or 2 Queen Beds and the cost is $130 per night plus taxes for a total of about $148 per night. If you are interested in joining us you are responsible for making your own hotel reservations. You can call The Somerset Inn at 800-228-8769 or 248-643-7800 and be sure to reference the block of rooms held for CCWP to get these rates. Please be sure to call by July 17,2017 because after that date the rooms will be released and there is no guarantee you would be able to get the same rate. If you are interested be sure to make your reservations because we know that more than half the rooms have already been reserved. There is more planning to come, and we typically have meetings the third Tuesday of the month at Pasqualino s Restaurant in Murrysville. Look for the date of the next meeting, which will be in March. Allen & Georgeann Young ayoung1210@msn.com

Page 9 Corvette Museum Trip Pat Hilyard is gathering prices and information on a possible bus trip to the Corvette Museum to see the Callaway Corvettes that are currently on display there. He is looking at sometime in April since the cars will only be on display until May 5th. Look for an e-mail with all the details in the near future. Watkins Glen Trip The plans for the trip to Watkins Glen are coming together. There is a block of 17 rooms reserved at the Watkins Motel under Debbie Corvette Group. The number for the motel is 607-535-5888 and it is up to each person/couple to call and make their own reservations. The reservations should be for two nights: Friday, April 7th and Saturday, April 8th. There are two types of available rooms one with a queen bed or one with two double beds and the price for either is $85.00 per night plus tax. All rooms have a refrigerator and some have a microwave. Coffee will be served in the morning in the office. The number of rooms reserved is based on the number of people who signed up at the After Christmas Party. If someone decides not to go then a room would be available for anyone not on the original list. Those on the list have until February 4th to decide if they are going. For anyone else who may be interested, please give me a call to see if any rooms are available. At that point I will put you on a waiting list and contact you after Feb. 4th. All room reservations must be finalized by February 11th. If someone wants to go and there are no rooms at the Watkins Motel, Seneca Lodge is up over the hill and you could check there. Their number is 607-535-2014 and the price of those rooms is $95 per night plus tax. Let me know if you book there and still want to go to be involved in the activities I have planned for the group. We will be driving the track on Saturday, and the cost is 3 laps for $25 or 9 laps for $50, all cash. I have reserved a morning track time at 9:30 am and then we would have to wait our turn to do the other sets. Other details will be e-mailed later. We will be leaving sometime Friday afternoon once I know everyone s schedule. DebCassel 412-795-0169 cassel7@yahoo.com

Page 12 General Membership Meeting (Unapproved) Monday, December 16, 2016 The monthly membership meeting was held at the Lamplighter Restaurant in Delmont. Frank Paolo called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance. Director s Reports Membership Allen Young Absent (given by Georgeann Young) For 2016 we have 151 families and 259 members. For 2017 we have 71 families and 117 members. We have membership cards ready for anyone who wants to pay at the meeting. A Life Time Membership was awarded to Don Baker and he was presented with a gold membership card and plaque. Vice-President / Insurance Harry Brentzel Insurance is paid. We are staying with our current carrier. Social Glenn Raymer After Xmas Party Antonelli Events Center in Irwin on Saturday, Jan. 14th from 6 to 10. Lee Alverson, a professional entertainer, will be the entertainment for the evening. We are raising the price for the party to cover the increased prices for the dinner. The cost will be $20 per person. Get your reservations in early. The reservation form is in the newsletter. Deadline: Jan. 7th. We have 37 paid and need a minimum of 50 people. An e-mail reminder will be sent to the membership. Events Bobbi Patrizio Please check the Website and our Facebook page-they have all the activities and details. We have established that we are not going to do refunds for people who sign up and do not come for activities. The reason is that the club could end up being responsible for costs that we can t afford. Next year we are planning the Corvette judged show for May 7th and the GM show for Sept. 16th, both at the Creekside Events Center. Tom Henry is willing to sponsor another show at this location. We also met with Century III Chevrolet and they are willing to sponsor a show and would be happy to do it in Latrobe. They also agreed to put club applications in any new Corvettes they sell. We are also planning on using Ad Hoc committees to help with the shows. In the planning stages: Watkins Glen in April if anyone is interested. It would be a 2 day trip and might include a winery visit. There are some concerns about the weather because of the date. Watch the Newsletter for more information. The thing to remember is that if we go after the opening weekend you can only do 3 laps. We would like to organize a membership drive on Facebook. We also need to look into the Corvette Forum to see if we can get more information about the club out there as well as more advertising for the car shows. We may also want to look at going to Watkins Glen for a Nascar Race. We might be able to get a group rate on tickets if there is enough interest. Newsletter Georgeann Young Georgeann reminded everyone to have all items for the Newsletter to her no later than the 17th. Lap of PA Georgeann and Allen Young are taking care of the planning for the trip to the Woodward Dream Cruise outside of Pontiac for the Lap. They have talked to Bob and Pat Chapaitis and they were in touch with the gentleman who organizes events for Corvette owners and he is okay with our tagging along as a group. There are several car collections that we might visit, including the GM Heritage museum. They are also looking into the possibility of touring the Ford museum as a club event. They will probably charge a registration fee so they can get a handle on how many people are committed to going and that will be non-refundable. Info on the hotel will be sent out shortly in an email and will also be in the January newsletter. We will be staying at the Somerset Inn and the contract has been signed. Pricing is Tower at $105 plus tax or Executive Wing at $130 plus tax. Each person must call and make their own reservations and the deadline is July 17th. Please reference the CCWP block when calling. The dates are Tuesday thru Saturday, Aug 15th thru the 19th. SPECIAL REPORTS Historical Committee Frank Paolo No report.
