LONDON TO BRIGHTON Community info 19 June 2016
HISTORY OF LONDON TO BRIGHTON BIKE RIDE London to Brighton Bike Ride is the flagship fundraising event for the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Now in its 41st year, it is Europe s oldest and largest charity bike ride. 2016 will see over 20,000 cyclists take on the 54 mile challenge and raise vital funds for the BHF s life saving research. For every mile pedalled and pound raised, cyclists will be helping the BHF fight back against heart and circulatory disease, which is responsible for more than a quarter (27%) of all deaths in the UK. The London to Brighton Bike Ride has raised in excess of 65 million pounds for the British Heart Foundation. Over the past 40 years more than 750,000 people have taken part. FATHER S DAY INFORMATION Due to the size of the event we work closely with many local authorities and highway agencies to determine a day suitable to hold the event. Over the past few years this date has fallen on the third Sunday of June, which also happens to be Father s Day. The ride itself is extremely family orientated and many riders take part with family members, especially Fathers and their children. There are also many participants who ride in honour of family members who have been affected by cardiovascular disease on this special day. We are aware that this can cause difficulties for those travelling to visit loved ones in the areas surrounding the route and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Hopefully this guide will help you with your travel planning on the day of the ride.
