Hudson Valley Council, B.S.A. Dutchess District 2013 Spring Camporee The theme for this camporee is Welcome To Zombie Park. The camporee will focus on basic scout skills, teamwork and having fun. There will be costume awards, a zombie trap/gateway challenge (part of the overall scoring) and a Scoutmaster potluck (cooked and served by the scouts, --judged by the scoutmasters). Registration fees for the 2013 Spring Camporee are as follows: $10.00 for scouts and $5.00 for adults. All unit scouts and scouters (volunteers and participants) must register. A completed roster (last page of this flyer) is to be turned in at the onsite registration. Reservations will close at midnight April 26 th, 2013 no unit walk-ins will be accepted. On Site Registration will be from 4:30-8:00 pm on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Freedom Park in LaGrange. 212 Skidmore Road,LaGrange,N.Y.,12540. Registration will be located by the parking lot. Units may not drive vehicles to the camping area to unload. Parking is fairly close to the sites. Camp sites will be assigned based on troop size. Please try to carpool as much as possible. Open Campfires are not allowed by the park and all Unit Garbage must be taken with you when you leave so please plan accordingly. There will be 2 mandatory range safety training sessions on Friday evening. All scouts participating must attend one of the sessions in order to compete at those stations. There are 10 stations. Volunteers are needed to help run the following stations: 1-Spiderweb, 2-Scouting Essentials, 3-Obstacle Course, 4-Firebuilding, and 5-1 st Aid. In addition the Map and Compass area could use some skilled volunteers and we are asking a unit to cover the evening Scouts Own.. Specific Station Information will be at the April Roundtable for volunteers or contact Butch Kidney (SM T-50). Stations will close for lunch from 12:15pm to 1pm. Scouts must return to their camp site for lunch. All scouts and scouters should have a water bottle for use during camp. Drinking water will be available. The Order of the Arrow will run a concession stand on Saturday providing beverages and snacks at reasonable fees. Monies earned go toward improvements at Camp Nooteeming. Most Awards will be distributed at the Saturday evening program. The Program For our service project we will be clearing several trails at the park. Please bring appropriate tools such as pruning shears, loppers, rakes, hedge clippers (in accordance with the Guide to Safe Scouting). Each unit will be assigned a portion of the trail to clear under the supervision of unit adults. A small Zombie Trap/Gateway is to be built on Friday evening by each registered patrol. First place ribbons will be awarded to the Most Effective and to the Most Creative following the Theme. Trap/gateways should be built on site using a minimum of 8 lashings and should take no more that 1 hour to build. We strongly suggest practice building it beforehand, completely disassembling and bringing pieces to the camporee. Traps/gateways will all be judged on the design and quality of knots and lashing
used, troop/patrol identification and added decor. Scores from the gateways will be added to each patrol s station scores to help determine the Over All winners. On Saturday you will use your First Aid and compass skills, demonstrate teamwork and fire building skills, shoot at varied targets, row and show your zombie spirit. Zombie Themed Costumes may be worn all day (part of scout spirit) and should be refreshened for the Fashion Show in the evening. The Scoutmaster Potluck will consist of a sample of each patrol s main course brought to the judging area for scoutmasters to taste and rate. All troops will be asked to perform a skit or lead us in a song at the Saturday evening program. Skit/Song names must be turned in during registration.
