Abstract Sohie is a music drama that ollows a young retired theatre actress as she talks to reorters about her amily and career. As the story unolds Sohie s lie transorms rom a cheerul illusion to a brutal reality where nothing is as it seems. The listener gets a irst row seat to the innermost corners o the rotagonist s mind as she journeys through sel awareness. The music transorms rom the modal center o the Lydian scale to the more chromatic and diminished tones o the Octatonic scale. Each character s theme undergoes alterations rom the itch center that ortrays stability to the one that creates unsteadiness in the character. But this instability comes not rom a all to madness, but rather rom the uncovering o the truth. As Sohie becomes saner she alls aart. Program Notes The set should be relatively simle: a mirror on stage right and maybe a couch or a chair. A blanket should be available or Scene The Baby. Sohie will be talking to the audience as i they are reorters until the reorters disaear on Scene Lizzy s Ghost. At the end o Scene The End the lights should come o as soon as Sohie says Welcome. The texts in boxes are soken at any seed making sure that it alls within the bars indicated. When the box is in a bar with ermatas the Conductor must wait or the Sorano to inish her seech beore the orchestra lays again. The scenes are meant to be erormed one ater the other with no sto until the end. Stage directions are indicated in italics and bold. Accidentals carry through the bar. Score is transosing. Aroximate Duration: 2 minutes.
