The Rowing Canal of the Maty stream The Rowing canal of the Maty stream, officially called the Olympic Centre of Szeged, is one of the best fishing sports institution in Hungary and in the world in regards of its natural attributes. The almost 2.5 kilometers long (for fishing course 1.7 kilometers) and 130 meters wide course is suitable to host even the highest level international competitions. The depth ranges between 2.5 and 3.5 meters for the whole area of the competition course mentioned above. Each year, the WalterLand Masters, the Tubertini-Maros Mix Cup, and many Federal Championships take place here. Thanks to this Szeged is well known by most of the competitors. The average catch is usually more than 10 kg. 4
THE FISH SPECIES: The main fish species to be caught in Szeged Rowling course are: carassius, from small size to big size up to 1000 g, carp average 1000-3000 g, bream for small size to up to 700 g, skimmer, bleak, and catfish. 5

Organising Committee: MOHOSZ 1124 Budapest, Korompai u. 17. mail: mohosz@mohosz.hu, Tel: +36 1 248 2590 MAXIMUM QUANTITY OF BAIT, GROUND BAIT AND LENGTH OF ROD - 20 litres of groundbait including earth, gravel, sweet corn, wheat, hempseed, etc. or any other fauna and water environmentally friendly additives. - 2 litres of bait, of which a maximum amount of 1 liter can be aquatic larvae (jokers and bloodworms). In any case the maximum amount of bloodworms can be 0.25 liter. A maximum amount of 0.5 liter of earthworms (not cut) is allowed in the total baits. For the Championship, the maximum rod length is 13 meters. The keep-net mesh cannot exceed 10 mm on 10 mm. The keep-net shall have either a minimum diameter of 40 cm for the round ones or a minimum diagonal of 50 cm for the rectangular ones and a minimum length of 3.50 metres. The history of the venue The Maty stream institution is currently situated in 76-hectare area out of which the water surface constitutes 40 hectares. In 1979 the decision was made to create a multifunctional catchment basin west side of Szeged, near the former river bed of the Tisza. It would serve as a base for water sports, an angler s paradise, a recreation spot and as an inner river basin. The almost 2.5 kilometers long, 120-300 meters wide and on average 3 meters deep valley was completed in three years. The Maty stream Water Centre was opened in June 1981 and over the past thirty years it has become perhaps the most popular kayak-canoe course in the world. Due to the favorable wind conditions it is widely considered to be one of the fairest courses, without forgetting that the Hungarian spectators are able to create a unique atmosphere during the world competitions. The Hotel at the river bank was expanded with 10 rooms for disabled, the stand, the VIP building and the renovated finish line tower were connected with a terrace system, a new fitness room was built and six new changing rooms were created as well. The Olympic center is situated 8 kilometers west of the city of Szeged. The course is close to the airport. It is bordered by the road No. 55 (Szeged Baja) to the north and by the road No. 5 (Szeged-Röszke) to the south. The M5 motorway runs around 2 kilometers to the south from the eastern shore of the lake. Anybody who arrives via the motorway should take the exit at the road No. 55. Parking: an inside car-park capable to accommodate almost 100 cars is at the disposal of the guests, but more parking areas are also available outside the facility. Public transportation: the course can be reached by the inter-town bus line to Röszke that leave every hour from the Mars square in Szeged. 6
