Cascades Cycling Club Newsletter Serving Jackson s Cycling Community for over 30 Years - All Riders - All Abilities Hilly Hundred 2017: 50 Years of Fun! Riding The Hilly has always been an end of the season test for me. Before this year I had ridden The Hilly 3 times, and each time it had been held on the third weekend of October, the weather had always been cold and it had rained on at least one of the two days of the event. This year The Hilly was held the first weekend of October, the weather was great and the riding was fun. Here are a few pictures from The Hilly s 50th anniversary event. This view is approaching the first rest stop on Saturday. Each stop had food, water, live music and lots of port-a-jons. Riders enjoying a chance to catch their breath on a flat stretch after the first climb on Bean Blossom hill. This is one of the more memorable hills on The Hilly. Cascades Cycling Club 1

Food and water are available at each rest stop, but the real feast is at lunch. With about 4,000 vertical feet of climbing each day, riders need plenty of fuel for this ride. Secure bike parking is another bonus provided during this ride. My bike really enjoyed staying dry each night! Cascades Cycling Club 2

November Newsletter 2017 This view is of the first rest stop on Sunday morning. Note the blue in the sky, the riders dressed in summer riding gear, and the hundreds of riders in the background near the food tents. Make your plans now - you could be in this picture next year! The 2018 Hilly is scheduled for the weekend of October 5-7. Great live music is performed at at each rest stop on both Saturday and Sunday. The musical theme this year must have been Indiana Roots as all of the bands were playing bluegrass. Cascades Cycling Club 3
