WAIS Swimming Schlarship Selectin Guidelines, Criteria and Prcess Apprved by: Executive Directr Effective frm: January 19 2016 Next review date: January 2017 Last Date f Edit: January 2016

1. Athlete Selectin Guidelines Selectin fr a WAIS Swimming schlarship will be based n the criteria utlined in Sectin 6. Schlarship Objectives The gals f WAIS athlete schlarships are t supprt enhanced athlete perfrmance with the aim t: a) Maximise the WA cntributin t Australian pdium perfrmances and b) Maximise WA representatin n Natinal teams at selected internatinal cmpetitins. Schlarship Timeframe WAIS Swimming schlarships will cmmence n 1 st June cncluding n 31 st May annually. Schlarship Classificatin The athletes will be classified int five WAIS categries accrding t their previus year s perfrmances and ther key selectin criteria: WAIS Categry Pdium Class (PC) Pdium Ptential Class (PP) Internatinal Class (IC) Develping Internatinal Class (DI) Emerging Internatinal Class (EI) WAIS Criteria Athlete wh achieves a rank f 1-3 in an individual r relay event (must swim in the final) at the mst recent Internatinal Benchmark cmpetitin in an Olympic r event Athlete wh achieves a rank f 4-8 in an individual r relay event, r member f the relay team finishing 1-3 (but did nt swim in final), at the mst recent Internatinal Benchmark cmpetitin Member f the Natinal Team at any Senir Internatinal benchmark cmpetitin Athlete with the capability t achieve at least internatinal class athlete status within 1-3 years (based n specific criteria utlined in Sectin 7) Athlete with the capability t achieve at least internatinal class athlete status within 4-7 years (based n specific criteria utlined in Sectin 7) Benchmark events are the Olympic Games, the FINA Wrld Swimming and Champinships and the Cmmnwealth Games. Selectin Prcess All current WAIS schlarship hlders will be autmatically cnsidered fr selectin. Swimming Australia and Swimming WA may nminate additinal athlete names and prvide perfrmance details regarding these athletes fr cnsideratin and assessment by the panel. Swimmers nt currently n schlarship wh wish t be cnsidered fr schlarship must send a cmpleted applicatin frm (appendix 1) t the Swimming Prgram Crdinatr (myardley@wais.rg.au) by the 22 nd f April 2016. The selectin meeting will ccur in the first week f May annually. Page 2 WAIS Swimming Selectin Criteria - 2016

The Swimming Australia General Manager - Perfrmance, WAIS Technical Perfrmance Team Directr and the Swimming Western Australia Perfrmance Develpment Manager will frm a selectin panel t review and select athletes against the Athlete Selectin Criteria. If, fr unfreseen circumstances, a panel member is unavailable, a prxy may be appinted with the apprval f the remaining panel. Caches f athletes applying may be requested t cmpile and prvide infrmatin r attend the selectin panel meeting t give evidence in supprt f their athlete s applicatin. The WAIS Perfrmance Team Directr will recmmend athletes fr schlarship t the WAIS Executive Directr. The WAIS Executive Directr will ffer schlarships directly t successful athletes. Upn receiving the ffer, athletes will be required t cmplete a variety f administratin and medical requirements within 4 weeks. When all requirements have been cmpleted, athletes will fficially cmmence the full schlarship. Athletes wh have sent an expressin f interest and are unsuccessful will be ntified by the Prgram Crdinatr. Special Circumstances The Selectin Panel may cnsider, at any time during the schlarship year: Athletes wh are relcating frm interstate SIS/SAS prgrams. Athletes wh achieve the perfrmance criteria at a qualifying event (as per sectin 6) 2. Queries n Selectin Any questins cncerning any aspect f selectin must be in writing and addressed t the WAIS Perfrmance Team Directr Technical Sprts within 14 days fllwing ntificatin. 3. Appeal Prcess If an athlete wishes t ldge an appeal abut the selectin utcme, this appeal is t be submitted in writing t the WAIS Perfrmance Team Directr. Appeals will be reviewed thrughly by the Selectin Panel. The athlete will be advised f the utcme f the appeal in writing. In the event that the athlete is unsatisfied with the utcme f an appeal, the appeal can be escalated by the athlete t the WAIS Executive Directr, in writing. In this instance, the Perfrmance Team Directr will review the prcess fllwed by the selectin panel and prvide a further recmmendatin t the Executive Directr. The Executive Directr will then ntify the athlete f the utcme f the appeal. 4. Cancellatin f schlarship An athlete schlarship may be cancelled if: The athlete infrms the WAIS Perfrmance Team Directr Technical Sprts in writing f their wish t cancel their schlarship. The athlete fails t cmply with the Athlete Schlarship Terms and Cnditins. The Perfrmance Team Directr recmmends the withdrawal f an athlete after review f the athlete s perfrmance against schlarship selectin criteria. issue is cnsidered a breach f the WAIS Athlete Cde f Cnduct prcedures within the Athlete Cde f Cnduct will be fllwed. In each instance; The Perfrmance Team Directr will recmmend cancellatin f schlarship t the Executive Directr. The Executive Directr will cnfirm cancellatin f schlarship in writing t the athlete. 5. Athlete Eligibility Criteria T be eligible fr selectin, swimmers must: 1. Be an Australian citizen Swimmers with dual passprts must intend t represent Australia. If a WAIS schlarship hlder chses t swim fr anther cuntry this wuld deem them ineligible t cntinue n a WAIS schlarship. 2. Meet the minimum perfrmance criteria (if they are applying as a new schlarship hlder - as per sectin 7). 6. Qualifying Events Perfrmances fr selectin will be cnsidered frm any event that meets the requirements utlined in the FINA Swimming Rules. Perfrmances fr selectin will be cnsidered frm either the Swimming Australia Natinal Champinships r the 2016 Olympic Marathn Swim Qualifier (Prtugal, June 2016). 7. Athlete Selectin Criteria The fllwing factrs will be cnsidered as part f the selectin prcess: 1. PERFORMANCE Pdium Class Individual r relay team (must have swum in the final) medallist at the 2015 FINA Wrld Aquatic Champinships, r Ranked 1-3 in the wrld based n the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin), r Swum a time at a qualifying event that is equal t r better than 3 rd place in the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin) Ranked 1-3 in the wrld based n the 2015 IPC Swimming Wrld rankings (3 per natin) Medallist at 2015 FINA Wrld Aquatic Champinships Ptential Pdium Class Page 4 WAIS Swimming Selectin Criteria - 2016

Individual r relay team (must have swum in the final) finalist at the 2015 FINA Wrld Aquatic Champinships, r Ranked 4-8 in the wrld based n the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin), r Swum a time at a qualifying event that is equal t r better than 8 th place in the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin) Ranked 4-5 in the wrld based n the 2015 IPC Swimming Wrld rankings (3 per natin) Placed 4-8 at the 2015 FINA Wrld Aquatic Champinships Placed 1-3 at the 2016 Olympic Marathn Swim Qualifier (Prtugal, June 2016) Internatinal Class Member f the 2016 Australian Olympic Games swimming team, r Ranked 9-16 in the wrld based n the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin), r Swum a time at a qualifying event that is equal t r better than 16 th place in the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin) Member f the 2016 Australian Games swimming team Member f the 2016 Australian Olympic Games swimming team Develping Internatinal Class Individual medallist at the SAL 2016 Australian Swimming Champinships, r Individual medallist at the FINA 2015 Wrld Junir Swimming Champinships, r Ranked 17-25 in the wrld based n the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin), r Swum a time at a qualifying event that is equal t r better than 25 th place in the 2015 Wrld Rankings (2 per natin) Ranked 6-8 in the wrld based n the 2015 IPC Swimming Wrld rankings (3/natin) Placed 1-3 ver the line (all Australian starters) at the 2016 SAL Australian Open Water Champinships, with the final time within 30 secnds f 1 st place finisher Emerging Internatinal Class Females 18 years r under and males 20 years r under as f 22 April 2016. Events up t a distance f 400m: swimmer has recrded a time at a qualifying event after January 1, 2016 that is within 7% f the fastest wrld time frm 2015, r 800m Freestyle: swimmer has recrded a time at a qualifying event after January 1, 2016 that is within 6% f the fastest wrld time frm 2015, r 1500m Freestyle: swimmer has recrded a time at a qualifying event after January 1, 2016 that is within 5% f the fastest wrld time frm 2015, r Page 5 WAIS Swimming Selectin Criteria - 2016

PERSONAL EXCELLENCE Athletes will be required t demnstrate a high level f cmmitment t training and cmpetitin prgrams In additin, athlete behaviur is expected t reflect the requirements f a high perfrmance prgram, including - Exemplary discipline - A psitive apprach twards imprvement - Respect fr caches, athletes and the prgram in general - Demnstrated behaviurs aligned with WAIS values (Peple and Excellence) Ntes: Achievement f the Perfrmance Criteria will nt autmatically result in schlarship selectin. APPENDIX 1 - WAIS SWIMMING SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION FORM The athlete cmpletes the frm and the cach must sign it. When the cach signs this frm it means the cach is willing t engage with WAIS t assist with the final selectin decisin. This may include prviding infrmatin abut the athlete s ptential t prgress and persnal excellence that will assist the selectin panel t make an infrmed and fair judgement f the athlete s suitability fr a schlarship.
