PREVIEW : OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS - STADE DE REIMS Feature Preview Olympique Lyonnais are in need of a lift but they are unlikely to have it easy when they entertain in-form Stade de Reims at the Stade Municipal de Gerland on Saturday afternoon. OL are struggling to deal with injuries and a loss of form and suffered an agonising 1-0 home defeat to Valencia on Tuesday that leaves their Champions League hopes very much in the balance. That result against the Spaniards came on the back of a convincing 3-1 defeat away to Girondins de Bordeaux, which saw Hubert Fournier's side end September in eighth place in the Ligue 1 table. The loss of Nabil Fekir to a serious knee injury and Alexandre Lacazette's struggles in front of goal have overshadowed Lyon's start to the season and they have won just one of their last six matches in all competitions, at home to SC Bastia 10 days ago. But Fournier is desperately hoping his team can summon the energy to get a welcome win under their belts before the international break. "This is going to be our seventh match in 20 days but physically we showed against Valencia that we still have the resources, although that generates disappointment, because we didn't deserve to lose," said Fournier. "Beating Reims would be a good remedy to that disappointment. If we can produce the same desire and intensity we will give ourselves a chance of winning the game. We have reminded the players of the positives since the Valencia defeat, such as that we are only four points off second place. Nothing has been decided in the league or in the Champions League. "The mood in the camp has been good at training. There is no point being down. The players understand that there is still hope even if we are in a delicate situation in the Champions League." Lacazette, who has scored just one goal this season, did little to help the atmosphere around the club when he hit out at president Jean-Michel Aulas in a newspaper interview last weekend, and Fournier has admitted that the striker is struggling to cope with the pressure just now. "There is greater expectation than last season, maybe a little too much at the moment because of several factors. The situation with Alex is symptomatic of that. He and the team are struggling to live up to expectations. But these expectations and pressures come with the stature of the club." This is a special game for Fournier, who took over at Lyon in the summer of last year to end a successful five-year association with Reims, the club he led to promotion back to the top flight in 2012 after a 33-year absence and then consolidated in Ligue 1. If moving to the banks of the Rhône was a step forward for Fournier, it is Reims who are in the better position in Ligue 1 coming into this weekend. The Champagne club are fourth in the table, three points above Lyon and just one behind AS Saint-Etienne in second. Now under Olivier Guégan, they make the trip on a run of five games unbeaten, a sequence which has seen them hold Paris Saint-Germain and beat LOSC Lille, who they defeated 1-0 last weekend thanks to a David N'Gog goal. And Gabon international Frédéric Bulot is hopeful Reims can keep up their good run by taking advantage of tiredness in the Lyon camp. "They will be fatigued but they are a wounded animal so we don't know what to expect from them," admitted the winger, who recently returned to France after spells in Belgium and England. "Either they'll struggle to get into the game or they will bounce back and be a completely different side. But we will just focus on ourselves and do what we have been doing since the start of the season." Reims are still without skipper Aïssa Mandi, who has a knee injury, while Kossi Agassa, Antoine Conte and Grejohn Kyei have also been on the sidelines. Meanwhile, along with Fekir, Clément Grenier, Gueïda Fofana, Bakary Koné, Henri Bedimo, Rafael and Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa have also been missing for Lyon, but they are hopeful Sergi Darder will be fit. 10/02/2015 Ligue de Football Professionnel - 2015/2016 - Ligue1.com 2

- HISTORY: Lyon have hosted Reims on 24 previous occasions in the top flight. Lyon have won seven, Reims have won 10 and the remaining seven encounters have ended in draws. - Lyon have scored 36 goals in this fixture to 40 for Reims. - Lyon won last season's corresponding fixture at the Stade Municipal de Gerland 2-1 on December 4, 2014. Corentin Tolisso (6') put OL ahead only for Benjamin Moukandjo (36') to equalise, but Johny Placide (og-90+1') put through his own goal to win it for Lyon in front of 32,513 fans. - Reims have won on just one of their last four top-flight visits to Lyon. That was a 1-0 victory in August 2013, when Odaïr Fortes (76') scored the only goal of the game and Hubert Fournier was in charge of the visitors. - The most recent meeting of the clubs came at the Stade Auguste-Delaune on April 26 with Lyon winning 4-2 before a crowd of 19,270. OL's goals came from Corentin Tolisso (2'), Alexandre Lacazette (6'), Clinton Njie (19') and Mickaël Tacalfred (og-90'), with Alexi Peuget (13') and Gaëtan Charbonnier (90+2') on target for Reims. - Lyon's biggest win in this fixture remains a 5-0 success in March 1972. The record success for Reims at Gerland dates back to September 1958, when as defending champions they won 5-1. - OLYMPIQUE LYONNAIS - GENERAL: Lyon come into Week 9 in eighth place in the table with 12 points, having won three, drawn three and lost two of their games to date. They started the weekend three points behind Stade Rennais FC in third and just two ahead of FC Nantes in 14th. - This time last season Lyon were 10th with 11 points, four points behind LOSC Lille in third. OL are enjoying their best start to a campaign since 2012-13, when they were third after eight games with 15 points. - In their last league outing, Lyon lost 3-1 to Girondins de Bordeaux at the Matmut Atlantique last Saturday. Wahbi Khazri (17'), Jaroslav Plasil (40') and Pablo (45+2') all scored for the hosts in the first half with Claudio Beauvue (78') getting a goal back for Lyon in front of 26,593 fans. - The Lyon line-up against Bordeaux (4-4-2 with midfield diamond): Lopes; Jallet, Rose, Umtiti (c), Morel; Tolisso (Malbranque, 69'), Ferri, Mvuemba, Valbuena (Ghezzal, 54'); Cornet (Kalulu, 80'), Beauvue. - That result was Lyon's first defeat in five Ligue 1 outings but they have now won just one of their last six matches in all competitions. - They have also won just once (against SC Bastia in Week 7) in seven Ligue 1 games without Nabil Fekir since the start of last season. - Maxwell Cornet made his first start of the season against Bordeaux, as did Arnold Mvuemba. Aldo Kalulu, Corentin Tolisso and Alexandre Lacazette have all scored once. Tolisso has also provided two assists. - Hubert Fournier's side have conceded six goals, with only three sides letting in fewer coming into the weekend. Half of those goals were conceded at Bordeaux last weekend. OL have kept five clean sheets in seven outings. - Anthony Lopes, Samuel Umtiti and Corentin Tolisso are the only Lyon players to have started all eight Ligue 1 games so far this season. They won 14, drew three and lost two of their games at the Stade de Gerland, scoring 40 goals and conceding 11. - The only visiting sides to win in Lyon last season were RC Lens and OGC Nice. However, they have won just three and lost two of their last nine home Ligue 1 games having previously won 11 and drawn one of 12. - Lyon's average gate so far this season is just 29,345, compared to an average last season of 34,949. A high of 32,137 watched them draw with Lille, while only 25,658 saw them beat SC Bastia. - COUPE DE LA LIGUE: As one of France's European representatives Lyon receive a bye in the round of 32 and will enter the competition in the round of 16 in December. - TROPHÉE DES CHAMPIONS: As Ligue 1 runners-up last season, Lyon were invited to play a Paris Saint-Germain side who won all the domestic trophies going in the traditional season-opener.
