E-mail: info@stvasilios.org January 2016 Dear St. Vasilios GOYAns and GOYA Parents, As many of you know, every year the St Vasilios GOYA hosts a weekend ski trip. This year as in past years we will be going to Sunday River in Bethel, ME. For many years now this tradition has been a welcomed part of our calendar as it continually provides an entertaining weekend retreat while also serving as a way to bring our GOYAns closer together in fellowship. The dates for our ski trip are March 18-20, 2016. Enclosed in this packet you will find all of the necessary information and forms that you will need:! Ski Trip Registration Form! Skis/Snowboard Rental Skiing/Snowboarding Lesson Form! Weekend schedule! FAQ The cost for the weekend is $210.00 per GOYAn, This includes the bus fee, all accommodations in the ski dorm including two breakfasts and one dinner, and the cost of a weekend lift ticket. This fee does not include the cost of rentals or lessons. Since we are only taking one coach bus on the trip, seating is on a first-come-first-serve basis. You are encouraged to discuss this at home and return your registration form as soon you can. The deadline for registration is Monday, February 8, 2016. All registration forms and checks must be returned to St. Vasilios by this date. Senior GOYA Ski Trip FAQ Q: What do I need to bring for skiing/snowboarding? A: Dress in layers! It s easier to take off a layer than to add a layer. Your first layer should be long johns or an under armor type shirt. The next layer should be a long sleeve tee shirt and pants (like jeans) or snow pants. The next layer should be a fleece or sweatshirt followed by a ski jacket on top. You ll also want to be sure you bring ski gloves, a hat, something for face protection like a scarf, ski mask or balaclava, a pair of heavy or wool socks, and a skiing/snowboarding helmet. Q: Do I need to rent or bring a skiing/snowboarding helmet? A: YES! Q: What else do I need? A: Since everyone gets a fully made bed (sheets, blanket, and pillow), a sleeping bag is not necessary. You may however choose to bring your own pillow for the bus ride. Bring some pajamas, flip-flops for the shower, and please don t forget toiletries (shampoo, soap/body wash, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.). We re not going to be skiing all of the time so remember to also bring some clothes to hang out in at the ski dorm. Q: What are the accommodations like at the ski dorm? A: Each room has four bunk beds (which allows us to fit up to eight people in a room) and a full bathroom. Sheets, blankets, pillows, and bath towels are provided by the ski dorm. There is a common area where we can hang out watch TV, play ping-pong, or any games that you may bring along with you. The cafeteria on the ground floor of the ski dorm will provide two breakfasts and one dinner for us on Saturday and Sunday. Q: I see on the schedule that you have a pot-luck dinner on Friday night when you get to the mountain. Do I have to bring something for that? A: We do ask that each person on the ski trip please bring with them something to contribute to the dinner. In the past we ve received everything from pizzas and sandwiches to trays of pastichio chocolate chip cookies to baklava. It s your call. Whatever you contribute will be greatly appreciated by our bellies believe me! Q: Do I need to bring any money on the trip? A: You will need money for: - Skis/snowboard rental and/or skiing/snowboarding lessons (see the form in this packet for pricing) - Lunch on the mountain for Saturday and Sunday and for any other snacks that you would like either during the day or at night from the vending machines (consider packing some of your favorite snacks in your bag it may be less expensive for you). - Dinner Sunday night at Burger King during the ride home Q: Are there things that I shouldn t bring on the trip? A: You may not bring illegal drugs, alcohol, cigarettes or weapons of any kind. If any of these items are found on your person or if the trip coordinators receive information that you possess these items your parents will be notified and asked to come to pick you up immediately. Please do yourself a favor and leave these things at home.
