BOBCAT PRiDE Northeastern School District February 5, 2016 We had a very successful weekend with two of our high school band students. The weekend started at Manheim Township High School with Graceann Temple and Ona Sutton participating in the PMEA Lower District 7 Band Festival where all students re-auditioned for PMEA Region V State Band. Both of our Bobcats successfully moved on to the next level with Graceann defending her first chair first alto sax spot and Ona moving up to first chair on the contrabass clarinet with her re-audition. The ladies will now have an opportunity to study under the baton of Dennis Glocke, Director of Concert Bands at Penn State University at the Region festival held at Central York High School March 10-12, 2016. We are very proud of the accomplishments of these fine young student musicians and excited for the wonderful experiences they will be having by participating in these select festivals Last evening, Graceann participated in the weather-rescheduled auditions for PMEA District 7 Jazz Band and, for the second year in a row, successfully auditioned for one of only 4 alto sax spots! Graceann improved her seating from last year and is now sitting first chair in the B band. She will be studying under composer, saxophon- Shallow Brook 6th grader Shannon Vanada gave a special gift to every one of her classmates this past holiday season. She poured hours of effort into freehand drawing a colored and detailed picture of each student in her class as a cartoon character! Shannon explained, "I love to draw, and I wanted to give everyone in my class something they would really be able to appreciate and enjoy at Christmas." Photoed is Shannon (red sweater with green scarf, center), with

Conewago Second Graders became published authors. They wrote and illustrated stories and poems. Their families were able to purchase their published works. They were so proud of their work. Friends of Rachel Mentors are having a blast working with fellow 7th and 8th grade students who elect to work with a mentor during Club Day. All new students are invited to attend FOR mentor sessions. 20 middle students are currently working with FOR mentor. Many of our new students have chosen to attend mentor sessions all school year. Students enjoy a game of "Are You More Like" and "Candy Hot Potato" in the photos below.

NHS Dramatics will present the newly-released Disney musical The Little Mermaid at the High School on February 26-28. This fun-filled show includes many of the songs from the animated movie and more!!! Students in NESD should have received an order form for tickets, so please use that form and send it to school as soon as you can to get the best seats available. Come join the fun "Under the Sea" Ursula, the Sea Witch, is played by Grace Kominsky as she sings, "Poor Unfortunate Souls!" "Go on and Kiss the Girl!!" sings Sebastian (Jonah Latshaw) to Prince Eric (Mason Walheim) as he floats on the bay with Ariel (Lauren Bass). JT Sowers plays the part of Ariel's Father, King Triton. The seaweed is always greener in somebody else s lake. You dream about going up there but that is a big mistake. Just look at the world around you right here on the ocean floor. Such wonderful things surround you. What more is you looking for?

Ms. Owings 4th grade class (S.F.I.) and Ms. Hare's Kindergarten class at Orendorf worked together to count to 100, make a necklace, and make the number 100. Here are some pictures from their activity.

Students from Miss Loughman's Kindergarten class and Mr. Kochenour's 5th Grade class celebrated with the 100th Day of school by finding 100 pieces to create multicolored necklaces. Students sorted all 100 pieces by color, counted by 10's, made tally marks, drew Base-10 blocks, and created a bar graph to represent the amount of each color was on their necklace. After all that learning, students needed a snack. They didn't have to look far, as their snack was hanging on their neck! Happy 100th Day of School!!

Dane Kunselman (4th grader, SBI) won 2nd place in the Lego building competition at the York Builders Home & Garden Show. CONGRATULATIONS! The New Oxford Wrestling Tournament was held Friday and Saturday. Out of the 32 participating teams, Dedrik Turner took 7th place and Blaine Yinger took 1st place. Great job! #bobcatproud Jalen Overton and Owen Kohr teamed up on Wednesday to play music for Spring Forge's 2nd marking period awards assembly. Jalen and Owen rocked it out!
