If you have not yet signed up for Fall Sports and would like to participate, please contact the appropriate sports director above -orcontact Bonnie Wagner at sode.mot@gmail.com Young Athletes: Do you have a Young Athlete (age 2-7) who is interested in participating in Special Olympics? Young children with and without disabilities have the opportunity to learn basic foundational sports skills like kicking, throwing a ball and playing with others. This is a great program to involve young siblings. Families are also encouraged to be a part of the fun and connect with the Special Olympics community of support. NEW! HELP NEEDED: Volunteers are essential to the success of our program. There are opportunities for volunteers of all ages, abilities and interests. This is a great opportunity to get siblings, family members and family friends involved in Special Olympics! Thank you to all of our current and future MOT volunteers for helping to make a difference in the lives of our athletes. Coaches, assistant coaches, team volunteers and Unified Partners are always needed! Extra help in these sports, especially for soccer, would be appreciated. Some experience preferred, but not necessary (we will provide training.) If interested, please contact Bonnie Wagner at sode.mot@gmail.com or call 302-740-9108. Team Volunteers assist by helping athletes in non-sports elements of training and competition, such as chaperoning and escorting. This is a perfect volunteer position for someone with no prior experience. Team volunteers must be at least 14 yrs. old. Coaches help train athletes in their specific sport. Head coaches must be at least 18 yrs. old and assistant coaches must be at least 16 yrs. old to volunteer in these positions. Unified Partners train and compete with Special Olympics athletes as part of our Unified Sports program. Please visit www.sode.org to submit a volunteer application. Thank you! IMPORTANT DUE DATES: All SODE athletes, Unified Partners and team volunteers who will be participating in the Fall Sports Festival must have an updated Athlete Participation Form (medical) -or- an updated Class A Volunteer status on file with the SODE office by Monday, Sept. 15, 2014. Any athlete who has an expired medical form, or any volunteer or Unified Partner with an expired Class A Volunteer status, will be unable to participate. FALL COMPETITION DATES: State Cycling Competition: State Golf Tournament: Fall Sports Festival: Saturday, September 13 at Dover Air Force Base, 9:00am Wednesday, October 1 at Brandywine Country Club, time TBD Nov. 7-9 at University of Delaware athletic complex, time TBD LOOKING AHEAD Winter and Spring Sports: WINTER: We will be offering Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Snowshoeing, Bowling, Basketball, Roller Skating, and Figure Skating. Information on these sports will be coming out in late October or early November. SPRING: We will be offering Swimming, Track & Field, Bocce, Softball, Powerlifting, and Tennis. We are excited to have back our returning participants as well as have some new faces come into the program. 2014 M.O.T. Tiger Flag Football Season is Here!!! Time/Date: Sundays from 11:30am 1:00pm from September 7 through November 2, 2014. Location: New Castle County Back Creek Park Directions: Use the Church Town Road entrance to Back Creek Neighborhood. If you are using a GPS, google maps, map quest, etc. the best Address to use is: 100 Back Creek Drive, Middletown 19709. This address will take you to the entrance to the neighborhood that you want. Once you enter Back Creek through this entrance continue along Back Creek Drive until there is a noticeable gap with no houses on your left hand side. This area of open field is your destination. Park your vehicles anywhere along the side of the road. Please be courteous and considerate of the surrounding houses when parking your vehicle and make sure to not block access to any driveways or mailboxes. What to bring? Athletic gear: Gym shorts, T shirt, athletic shoes (football cleats are preferred, but NO METAL CLEATS PLEASE ) Water/Sports Beverage: Water will be provided for athletes use at practice, but feel free to bring your own water or sports drink if you so choose. We provide the flags and footballs, and mouthpieces for all athletes! Most Importantly.Come prepared to work hard and have fun!!!!!
