FISH BITES The Marlins continue their three-series, nine-game homestand tonight with game two of three against the Houston Astros at 7:10 p.m. RHP Tom Koehler (1-1, 5.60) is facing the Astros for the second time in his career; he came away victorious on July 26, 2014 at Minute Maid Park, allowing three runs on nine hits over 5.0 innings. Opposing Koehler is LHP Dallas Keuchel (6-0, 1.69), who is 0-1 with a 0.00 ERA in one previous start against the Fish. Tonight's national anthem is being performed by the New River Middle School band. The current homestand had a trio of teams coming through town for three-game sets: St. Louis (0-3), Atlanta (1-2), and Houston (0-1). Miami takes to the road again on Thursday for a four-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers (May 18-21) and a two-game set in Oakland (May 23-24). LAST NIGHT AGAINST HOUSTON Miami couldn't capitalize on an impressive start by Dan Straily, falling to the Houston Astros, 7-2. The Marlins broke a scoreless tie in the fifth on Christian 's single that scored JT. Straily, who used just 73 pitches over 5.0 innings, was hit by a comebacker on the right forearm in the fifth inning and didn't come out for the sixth. That's when Houston capitalized and scored four times to take a 4-1 lead. The Astros added to their lead in the seventh, scoring twice more before Justin connected for his eighth home run of the season in the bottom of the eighth. and both led the offense with three-hit games, while Dee added two more of Miami's 12 hits. Straily allowed just one hit and a walk, while striking out three, over his 5.0 frames. Junichi Tazawa (1-1) was handed the loss in relief. It was just the 12th time in Club history that the Marlins had 12-plus hits and two-or-fewer runs, the first since September 12, 2015 vs. Washington (12 hits in a 2-0 victory). AGAINST THE ASTROS The Marlins last faced the Astros in a three-game series at Minute Maid Park from July 25-27, 2014, coming away with a series sweep. The Marlins-Astros series is one of the most tightly contested series in Marlins history, as the Fish trail by two games, 78-80, yet they own a 48-31 mark in South Florida. Miami's.608 winning percentage against Houston at home is its second-best mark against any team, behind a.635 winning percentage against Colorado (61-35). In the Game 1 win, Miami s first-ever at Marlins Park, the teams were knotted up, 4-4, in the 11th inning, when Chris Coghlan led off the frame with an infield single and then scored from first on a Gaby Sanchez double. The game went to extra innings thanks to Miami native J.D. Martinez; the Houston outfielder hit the first home run in Marlins Park history in the eighth inning, a two-run shot that tied the game. In the Game 3 win, Omar Infante hit Miami s first-ever home run at Marlins Park, a solo shot in the second inning. Every Marlins starting position player, with the exception of Jeff Conine (0x6), had a multi-hit game on July 15, 1996 at Pro Player Park, when the Fish recorded seriesbests in runs and hits (24) against the Astros in a 15-5 win. Also, all four position players to come off the bench recorded hits, with Kurt Abbott, Alex Arias, and Greg Colbrunn all going 1x1 as pinch hitters, and Jesus Tavarez pinch running and later recording a single. THIS DAY IN MARLINS HISTORY MAY 16 Burke Badenhop picked up the win in relief and drove in the game-winning RBI with a single in the 11th against the New York Mets in 2011.
