FISH BITES The Marlins continue a seven-game road swing tonight with the second of three games against the defending World Series Champion Chicago Cubs at 8:05 p.m. EDT. LHP Jeff Locke (0-0, 1.59), who is making his second start of the season, has gone 1-4 with a 6.00 ERA in 12 career appearances, 10 starts, against the Cubs. Chicago is countering with RHP Jake Arrieta (5-4, 4.60), who in two prior starts against the Fish is 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA. Miami just completed an 8-2 homestand against the Angels (2-1), Phillies (3-0) and Diamondbacks (3-1). Following this series, the Marlins will travel to the Steel City to take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in a four-game weekend set. The schedule then has Miami going home for two games against the Oakland Athletics (sandwiched between off-days), going back on the road for three in Atlanta, and then returning home again for another 10-game homestand. LAST NIGHT AT CHICAGO On a cold night in Chicago, the Marlins weren't able to get hot at the plate, falling to the Cubs, 3-1. Kris Bryant put Chicago up 2-0 in the first with this 13th homer of the year. The Cubs built a 3-0 lead in the fourth on Albert Almora Jr's third home run of the year. Miami scored its lone run in the sixth, as Dee Gordon hit a sac fly to score JT Riddle. Marcell Ozuna and Riddle both had two-hit games, with Giancarlo Stanton and Ichiro Suzuki collecting the other two Marlins hits. Dan Straily (4-4) provided a quality start, giving up just three runs and six hits (two home runs) while walking none and striking out five over 7.0 innings. AGAINST THE CUBS Miami went 3-4 against Chicago in 2016, taking three of four in Miami before dropping three straight in Chicago. The Marlins have gone 92-94 against the Cubs all-time, including a 46-51 record here at Wrigley. The Fish are looking to snap a six-game losing streak in Chicago dating back to July 4, 2015. TODAY'S TRANSACTION The Marlins today placed INF Justin Bour on the 10-day disabled list with a left ankle contusion and recalled C Tomás Telis from Triple-A New Orleans. In 43 games with NOLA, Telis has hit.268 (45x168) with two home runs and 16 RBI. He has also appeared in two games with Miami, going 0x2 in two pinch-hitting opportunities. ALL THE COMFORTS OF...THE ROAD As a team, the Marlins are hitting.275 on the road, the highest average in the National League and second to only Houston (.290) in the Majors. Miami's 255 road hits rank fifth in the NL behind Washington (299), Atlanta (296), Colorado (280) and San Francisco (259). The Fish are averaging 4.54 runs per game in visiting ballparks, which ranks sixth, behind the Mets (6.09), Washington (5.84), Colorado (4.77), Pittsburgh (4.63) and Atlanta (4.59). Miami's staff has allowed a total of 205 hits on the road, second-fewest in the National League and third-fewest in the Majors, behind Minnesota (172) and Milwaukee (204). ON THE ROAD AGAIN J.T. Realmuto is back on the road, where he has hit considerably better this season, posting a.371 average (33x89), which ranks third in the Majors. He trails only Jose Altuve (.427) and Aaron Hicks (.388) in road average. He has recorded at-least one hit in 20 of 23 road games this season, and had a 15-game road hitting streak snapped on May 24 at Oakland (0x3); that currently stands as the longest road streak in the Majors this season. THE FRIENDLY CONFINES TO THE ALLEGHENY Christian Yelich has excelled at both ballparks on this trip, recording hits in 23 of 25 career games combined at both venues. In 13 career games at Wrigley Field, Yelich has hit.368 (21x57) with at-least one hit in 12 of those 13 games. He had his 12-game hitting streak at Wrigley snapped with a 0x4 last night. Yelich has had equally impressive numbers in the next city on this trip, as he has hit in 11 of 12 career games at PNC Park (.363/17x47) with five home runs and nine RBI. His five home runs at PNC are the most outside of the NL East, and is tied with his total at Citi Field for the second-most at any road ballpark (six at Nationals Park). DAVID PITCHING LIKE GOLIATH David Phelps has been Miami's most consistent reliever of late, holding opponents to just one unearned run over his last 20.0 innings pitched. The 20.0 inning stretch without allowing an earned run is the third-longest active streak in the Majors, and longest of his career. Over his last 18 games, he has allowed just seven hits in 62 at-bats (.113 OPP AVG) in 19.0 innings pitched, with 19 strikeouts to only six walks. BULLPEN REBOUND Over the last nine games, Miami's bullpen has turned things around, surrendering just seven runs over 33.2 combined innings (1.87 ERA), which includes a current 12.0-inning scoreless streak, the longest active streak in the Majors. In 15 games prior to the current stretch, Marlins relievers had allowed 36 earned runs (42 total) over 51.0 innings for a 6.35 ERA. On the season, Miami's bullpen ranks sixth in the National League with a 3.90 ERA, while its 10 wins are tied with Cincinnati and the Dodgers for third, behind Arizona (11), Cincinnati (11), and Pittsburgh (11). THE BEAR HAS WOKEN Over his first 32 games this season, Marcell Ozuna hit.325 (40x123) with 11 home runs and 29 RBI. However, over his next 14 games, he hit just.240 (12x50) with no home runs and just four RBI. He has turned things around over his last 10 games, hitting at a.442 (19x43) clip with three home runs and seven RBI, raising his season mark to.329. His season average ranks fifth in the National League and 10th in the Majors, while his 14 home runs are tied for seventh in the NL (tied for 15th in MLB). In addition, his 23 mutli-hit games are tied with Ryan Zimmerman for third in Baseball, behind Charlie Blackmon (26) and Corey Dickerson (25). Ozuna has four consecutive multi-hit games, one shy of his career-best streak of five, from May 23-27 last season.
