4-H News for Advisors and Members (Cont. from Project Judging Details): Associate 4-H Members Any 4-H members whose enrollment forms were turned in after the April 3 rd deadline can still be involved with club meetings, activities and project judging for a grade or participation ribbon. We highly encourage them to participate in skillathon or have their project books graded. They may not however exhibit their projects at the Trumbull County Fair or Ohio State Fair for 2017 for competition purposes. If you have any questions, please contact Ashlee. Advisors Grade Sheets 4-H ers who are not able to attend project judging on their scheduled date & time must schedule a make-up date with their advisor/species chair. Advisors may obtain grade sheets from the OSU Extension Office. Advisors should turn in project grade sheets of members who did not attend project judging to the Extension Office no later than Thursday, June 29, 2017. You may use either an A, B, C system (red, blue and white ribbons) or complete/incomplete system (green participation ribbons). Members should receive a grade ribbon for each project in which they were enrolled and have completed. Clubs with cat projects may take their completed grade sheets to the Junior Fairboard Office and receive project ribbons, since their judging is completed during fair. IMPORTANT: All 4-H Members must complete project judging in order to receive a fair pass. While make-up judging can be arranged in the case of scheduling conflicts, realize that our project judging events have invited judges who will only be available on the scheduled date. In the order of fairness, general and clothing project members must attend their assigned date in order to be eligible for state fair. In addition, the same rule applies for some animal species county outstanding project award. Please discuss this with your advisor and review species rules if you have a question. 2017 FAIR BOOTHS-REMINDER TO ADVISORS All 4-H Advisors should have received a copy of the 2017 Junior Fair Booth Assignments and information via email. Contact Jerry Lipps at 330-876-3636 with any questions. CARCASS ANIMALS A few years ago the Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee adopted a new rule regarding carcass animals. Times for load-out for carcass animals is yet to be determined. Specie chairs will be notified as soon as possible with the schedule. Thank you for your patience! DRUG USE NOTIFICATION FORMS FOR MARKET LIVESTOCK ANIMALS Every Market Livestock Animal must have a DUNF Form on file with the Fair Board on the DAY OF ARRIVAL AT FAIR absolutely no exceptions! It is the 4-H member s responsibility to complete forms for each animal they bring and present it to the designated advisor upon completion of the animal s health check and/or weigh-in. Do not leave your animal on Tuesday until you have turned in your completed Drug Use Notification Forms. Failure to turn in these forms on the first day of Fair may result in you being asked to remove the animal OR you being unable to show the animal for competition. Even if cattle do not milk in the parlor, but they milk on the premises (same for goats), they still need a DUNF form! Forms will be distributed to all club Head Advisors. Head Advisors will need to distribute the forms to members, collect completed forms, and then turn them back in to the designated Jr. Fair Livestock Sale Committee or Sr. Fairboard member. HEALTH CHECKS All animals will be health checked when you check in at the Fair. Animals presented for exhibition must show no symptoms or evidence of an infectious or contagious disease. If there are questions regarding the health of your animal, you may be asked to produce proof that your animal is in good health or may even be asked to remove your animal from the Fairgrounds. This is done, not only for the safety of your animal, but other animals and people who come in contact with the animals as well. JUNIOR FAIR LIVESTOCK WEIGH-IN SCHEDULE Animals will be weighed on Tuesday, June 11 th and will be taken in the following order for weight in: Sheep & Goat- 4:00 PM Dairy Feeders- 4:15 PM Beef- 4:15 PM Poultry- 5:00 PM Hog- 5:30 PM Questions regarding this schedule should be directed to the Junior Fair Livestock Sale Committee including Mike McCaslin or Jan Solomon. Animal Grooming & Care This is a reminder to advisors, family members and 4-H members that 4-H projects are the responsibility of the 4-H member. This includes grooming them for show, feeding, washing, watering, cleaning pen or area, etc. A parent can be present to assist when needed but the majority of the work should be done by the youth. Thank you. The Leader 6 Ohio State University Extension Trumbull

Reflections Dear Trumbull County 4-H Volunteers, By the next edition of The Leader, the Trumbull County Fair, a highlight of our summer, will be here and gone. I want to take a moment to thank all of the Trumbull County 4-H Volunteers for your patience, dedication and hard work over the past several months. Although I was a 4-H member, it took being an adult and becoming your county s educator to realize all the blood, sweat and tears it takes behind the scenes to make our activities and competitions come to life. I certainly could not do this job without all of your help at the committee and club level. I am so fortunate to have the volunteers that I do. You all deserve a standing ovation. Thank you again for helping me through my firsts this year as your 4-H Educator. Dear Trumbull County 4-H Members, You continue to amaze me with the amount of talent and creativity you all possess. Taking a step back to observe all of you at different events (4-H Kickoff, Proclamation Day at the Commissioner s Meeting, Officer Training, Royal Court Interviews, Jr. Fairboard Meetings etc.) I am incredibly proud. I hope for all of you that 4-H is one of your favorite activities to be a part of. As you continue along your 4-H journey, know that it will come and go like a flash. Take the jump. Push yourself to do your best, try activities you may not be familiar, practice with your projects and talk with your friends about joining this wonderful program. One day you will look back and realize the impact 4-H had on your life. I wish all of you good luck during the Trumbull County Fair and the Ohio State Fair if you may participate. Have a great summer!
