BNJCA 2013-2014 TROPHY & AWARD WINNERS BNJCA Annual Presentation, 15 th May 2014 Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this spirit causes injury to the game itself. The Spirit of the Game involves respect for: Your opponents Your own captain and team The role of the umpires The game's traditional values The BNJCA supports the Spirit of Cricket, as embodied in the preamble to the Laws of Cricket, in a tangible way with a Spirit of Cricket Award. The Association accepts nominations from clubs for a player displaying the true spirit, traditions, and values of cricket. The player must be playing in a BNJCA competition. This award does not apply to adults. In order for a club to nominate a player, the action must be at the player s instigation, not a result of an adult s intervention. The nomination can come from anyone involved in the game; other players, umpire, coach or spectators, but must be made through the affiliated club of the nominating person. ADAM BALL - Valleys Adam was nominated by Albany Creek Cricket Club

QJC Player of the Year George Watkin, President of Queensland Junior Cricket presented its Player of the Year award to Sandgate Redcliffe player, Bryce Street He was selected in the BN U16 Zone team to play at the U16 Qld Championships at Northgate, which BN won. 2013-14 Anstey La Frantz Shield Co-ordinator s report The Anstey La Frantz Shield aims to replicate an environment similar to what exists at both representative level and at Senior Grade level. In addition to a stronger level of competition, players are also educated to the standards and etiquette of the game that will be expected of them over the coming years. The concept has grown, since its inception in 2007, to become one of the most popular competitions for players, coaches and parents. The standard of competition and skill is at least the equal of most games at the State Championship level, and again this season we were witness to some great games of cricket, played in a very competitive spirit. The standard of competition in all games was very high. The below were the agreed catchments for the season s competition. Team Name Catchment Clubs Coached By Team 1 Bushrangers Wilston Norths Tony Bath Team 2 Dolphins Sandgate Redcliffe, Redcliffe City, St Patricks, St Pauls Barry Smith Team 3 Lions Valleys Scott Martin Team 4 Redbacks Toombul, Valleys, Ferny Grant Hastie Team 5 Tigers Albany Creek, Pine Rivers Dale Sherwood Team 6 Devils Wilston North Scott McSweeney With all the finals round games being hosted at Norths grounds it was a great final day. Congratulations to the Devils, who came through on the day to win the title by the smallest of margins, only.13 of a point. Reevesie Cup Co-ordinator s report 2013-14 Based on the success and popularity of the U14 Anstey La Frantz Shield competition, a new U15 competition, called the Reevesie Cup, based on similar format and principals was instigated this season. This competition was named after our President, in recognition of all the work he has done over his years at Brisbane North. The playing conditions and format were the same as the current U15 QJC Championship rules and conditions. It aimed to replicate an environment similar to what exists at both representative level and at Senior Grade level. This competition also formed a part of the BNJCA U15 Representative Selection process with a player being required to play at least one game in the either this U15 competition or in the U16 Lord Taverners competition to be considered for selection. This competition was exclusive to U15 aged players. The inaugural competition was won by the Lions catchment. Team Catchment Clubs Coached by Dolphins Sandgate, Redcliffe, Pine Rivers, St Patricks, St Pauls Bryan Hadden Lions Valleys Jim Whyte Devils Wilston North Tracey Nugent Redbacks Toombul, Albany Creek, Everton, Ferny Brett Chaffey, Michael Futcher We had a number of teething problems at the beginning and BNJCA accepts the criticism for a lack of timely communication which caused a few early concerns in getting the competition underway. Lessons were learned from this and we are working to ensure this isn t repeated in the future. This competition was included as part of the 2013-14 Season Review terms of reference and recommendations have been made to the Management Committee about its effectiveness in fulfilling its objectives and what changes are needed to be to improve the competition. Changes will be implemented for next season. I would like to thank Ross Howard (umpires), Glyn Netto (grounds), Steve Farley (organisation) and Ian Rushton (MyCricket) for their time and contribution to the eventual success of this season s program. Keith Dudgeon has been a sponsor for the Anstey La Frantz shield since the competition commenced in 2008 and now also is also the sponsor of the Reevesie Cup. He supplies the balls for all the games and also the winning teams with their baggy caps. Please show your thanks and support by visiting KD Sports for your cricket needs.
