ENTRIES CLOSE SEPTEMBER 15, 2017 Online entries and payment will be accepted beginning August 1st at ncstatefair.org. Mailed or hand delivered paper entries will be charged a $5.00 processing fee. Admission policy for livestock exhibitors! After October 1, exhibitors who entered online will receive an e-mail with directions on printing a bar coded sheet for parking passes and admission wristbands. Exhibitors entering hard copies will receive similar bar coded sheets via US mail. Bring bar code to gate 4 to be scanned. All exhibitor households will receive one sticker for gate 4 livestock parking lot, one sticker for C lot at Carter Finley and five wristbands valid for show period entered. Beginning on Thursday, October 12, a roundtrip shuttle from C lot to Gate 4 will be provided from 6 AM to 9 PM daily. CHECK IN: Animals to be shown in the Junior Show only must be checked in and in place by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 20. Check in time for Junior Show animals that are shown in the Open Show are from 8:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., Thursday, October 19 during the exhibitors' dinner, and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20. Animals will not be allowed to enter the barns until inspected and passed by health officials. An approval card will be issued after inspection, prior to entering the barn. Registration papers or DHIA calf pages must be presented to the Junior Show superintendents. THIS RULE WILL BE ENFORCED. Any and all animals not meeting the entry requirements, unthrifty nature, unsuitable condition and/or exhibiting any signs of disease or illness, may be refused entry, required to be isolated and/or required to be returned to the farm of origin. During the duration of the Fair, any and all animals of unthrifty nature, unsuitable condition and/or exhibiting any signs of disease or illness or found not to have met entry requirements after entry may be required to be isolated and/or returned to the farm of origin. SHOW DATE: Saturday, October 21, at 6:00 p.m. Fitting and Showmanship. Sunday, October 22, at 9 a.m.- two rings will operate with Brown Swiss, and Jerseys showing consecutively in one ring; and Ayrshires, Holsteins and Guernseys showing consecutively in the other ring. RELEASE TIME: Sunday, October 22 at 6:00 p.m. and POSITIVELY NOT BEFORE THAT DATE AND TIME, PREMIUMS WILL BE FORFEITED IF ANIMALS ARE REMOVED FROM STALL SPACE BEFORE THE RELEASE TIME. RULES AND REGULATIONS 1. Except as noted, all of the rules and regulations of the Dairy Department, the Livestock Division, and the General Rules and Regulations of the Fair, will prevail in this show. 2. Open to exhibitors 6-18 years of age as of January 1, 2017, a resident of North Carolina, and must be able to show the animal on their own. 3. No exhibitor in the Junior Dairy Show may show more than three animals. 4. Exhibitors must have personally fitted and cared for the animals 60 or more days prior to the show. The declaration of ownership and/or care must be completed and returned with your entries. The form can be found at www.ncstatefair.org. 5. All animals must be shown without assistance. Adults, other than the officials, will not be allowed in the ring during the show unless requested by a show official. (Exception:.) If adult assistance is provided, exhibitors will not receive a rating for showmanship. 6. Grade animals must have a DHIA calf page in order to be shown. These animals must have some type of identification that management can use to verify birth dates. 7. The Danish system of judging will be used; however, the first three animals in each class will be judged. 8. No entry or stall fee will be charged for entries exclusively in the Junior Show. There is a $5.00 processing fee for paper entries. 9. Entry deadline is September 15, 2017. If not entering online, entries for Open and Junior Show must be on separate forms because different class numbers are used. Each youth should complete their own individual form. Incorrect or incomplete forms will not be accepted and will be returned to the exhibitor. Additional copies may be made of the entry form. The following information will not be required of junior show entries: name of sire and name of dam. All other information is required. 10.ONLY ONE SUCH QUALIFIED SUBSTITUTION WILL BE ALLOWED PER EXHIBITOR. NOTE: The management of the Junior Dairy Show reserves the right to reject the animals which in their opinion would bring discredit to the show. This includes animals which cannot be controlled, seriously emaciated, and those with serious injuries or gross physical defects. SPECIAL BREED AWARDS The North Carolina Association for the Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Holstein, and Jersey breeders will provide awards in fitting and showmanship classes. In addition, the following awards are provided: GUERNSEY: (1) Sunrise Farm Trophy - Trophy to Grand Champion Guernsey in Junior Show. (2) Eston Stokes Award - Trophy to Guernsey in Junior Show (Sponsored by Sunrise Farm). HOLSTEIN: Engraved trophies to exhibitors of, and Grand Champion in Junior Show. JERSEY: (1) Deerview Jersey Farm - Trophy to Grand Champion in Junior Show. JUNIOR EXHIBITORS ICE CREAM SOCIAL There will be a sponsored ice cream social for all Junior Dairy Exhibitors on Saturday evening, October 21 following showmanship. County herds will be based on the location of the animals, not the youth. Entries for this event will be made during check in for the Junior Dairy Show. Section 106 - COSTUME CLASS - Junior Dairy Cattle PREMIUMS: 1st Place - $95 2nd Place - $70 3rd Place - $60 4th Place - $50 5th Place - $45 6th Place - $40 7th Place - $40 8th Place - $40 9th Place - $40 10th Place - $40 00301 Any exhibitor in the Junior show may participate. The exhibitor may have the assistance of one other junior age person while in the ring. Exhibitors may use any ideas they wish on how to dress or decorate their dairy animal to represent any personality, place or thing, with emphasis on milk, milk products or dairy production. Costumes may consist of any material as long as it is not considered harmful to the animal or potentially harmful to other exhibitors in the ring. Entries will be made in the Livestock Office on forms supplied by the superintendent. Registration must be completed by 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 21. This class will be held following the completion of the junior type shows on Sunday. Judging will be based on creativity, attractiveness and milk and/or dairy promotion theme. Section 107 - JUNIOR DAIRY SHOW FITTING AND SHOWMANSHIP CLASSES Saturday, October 21, 6:00 p.m. The classes will be determined by age as of January 1, 2017. All breeds will be shown together based on the age of the exhibitor. Sign up sheets will be available during check in on Thursday, October 19 at the exhibitors' dinner and in the Livestock Office until 9:00 p.m. Friday, October 20. This will determine heats if needed in a class. The classes for showmanship will be posted by 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Exhibitors must show one of the animals entered in their name in this competition. The classes are as follows: 6 year old class 7 year old class 8 year old class 9 year old class 10 year old class 11-12 year old class 13-14 year old class 15-16 year old class 17-18 year old class Two rings will operate that evening. Awards are provided for the winner in each age competition (provided by the NC State Fair). More detailed information will be provided at check-in. La-Foster Farm will provide leather show halters for the winner in each age division. The winner of the 17-18 year old class will receive $250 from the NC Dairy Youth Foundation and will not be eligible to compete again in Junior Showmanship. MILEAGE: The State Fair Management will pay mileage for animals exhibited in the Junior Dairy Show. Payment will be made for each animal based on the distance (one-way) between the county seat of the county involved and Raleigh. For computing mileage, the official highway map issued by the State Department of Transportation will be used.
