DANCE 4 AUDITIONS Millennium Middle School Dance Room (2-105) Holley_Ricker@scps.k12.fl.us Dance 4 is a performance and choreography class scheduled during one period of the regular school day. Some rehearsals and performances will extend beyond the regular school day. All incoming 6 th, 7 th and 8 th grade students are invited to audition. Dancers will present a one-minute routine in the dance style of their choice (ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, hip-hop ) to a panel of judges on Wednesday 3/8/17 or Thursday 3/9/17. Choreography does not need to be original. Dancers music may be on a CD (CD-R type not CD-RW), phone or ipod. Song does not need to be cut. Dancer should hit an ending pose at the 1 minute mark. Dancers who excessively exceed the one-minute time request may have their music stopped. Costumes are not required but dance clothes are strongly suggested. Judges will look for technical ability and overall performance presentation ability (smiles, audience appeal). Please see included Judges Scoring Sheet for more details. Dancers will be informed on Tuesday March 14, 2017 if they were selected to join the class. For Millennium dancers, a list will be posted on the Administration Building window. For dancers who are not currently attending Millennium, their school will be called with a request to inform the dancer. Dates: Monday Jan. 9, 2017 Millennium Website will have Dance IV audition information and Forms. Hard copy paperwork with information and forms will be available in the front office and cafeteria at Millennium Friday March 3, 2017 - Information Form and Teacher Recommendations due to Mrs. Ricker at Millennium Middle School by 4 PM. Tuesday March 7, 2017 4:15pm-5:30pm Dance Room (2-105) Dancers turn in last minute paperwork, review audition time slot, meet and greet, warm up and combinations. Wednesday March 8, 2017 3:15pm 6:00pm OR Thursday March 9, 2017 4:15pm-6pm Auditions. Evaluation by judges. Meet in cafeteria 20 minutes prior to your audition time slot. Dancers will meet in the cafeteria to warm up and practice. To perform for the judges, dancers will enter the dance room in a group and proceed to the inner hall of the Performing Arts Center. From here they will enter the dance room one at a time to perform their own 1-minute routine. This is a closed audition. Only judges will be allowed in the dance room. Tuesday March 14, 2017 8:50am - A list will be posted on the window of the Administration Building indicating the dancers who have been invited to join the Dance 4 class for the 2017-2018 school year. Elementary Schools will be called. Dancers do not need to change their schedule with a guidance counselor. Mrs. Ricker will provide a list to the guidance counselors and the Dance 4 class will be added to their schedule. If there is a problem with adding Dance 4, the guidance counselor will contact the dancer. By participating in the audition process, you are making a commitment to join Dance 4. Dancers should seriously consider their school schedule. They may have to make a choice between their current choice of classes and Dance 4. Even if a dancer makes the audition, their counselor may not be able to add Dance 4 due to academic class availability and size. Dancers who do not qualify for Dance 4 though the audition process will be scheduled into Dance 1 or 2 according to the pre-requisites they have already met. After auditions, dancers should inform their guidance counselor if they prefer to not be in the dance program. ATTACHED DANCER INFORMATION FORM AND TEACHER RECOMMENTATION FORM MUST BE RETURNED TO MRS. RICKER BY FRIDAY MARCH 3, 2017 AT 4:00PM

DANCE 4 INFORMATION AND POLICIES MILLENNIUM MIDDLE SCHOOL (Holley_Ricker@scps.k12.fl.us) Dance 4 provides an opportunity for students to receive dance performance and choreography training while also learning the value of discipline, teamwork, and school/community involvement. Dance 4 members are expected to serve as role models for the school and community. They must not only have the desire and dedication to give their best effort during each rehearsal and performance, but must also serve as exemplary students in behavior and academic achievement at all times. Members of Dance 4 are expected to maintain high academic and behavioral standards in order to perform. For any performance during the school day, dancers must have the signature of each of their teachers and their parent or guardian. Neither has to sign if he or she feels the dancer is lacking in academics, attendance or behavior. Discipline referrals for inappropriate behavior are unacceptable and eligibility for performance will be decided on a case by case basis. Dance 4 is a co-curricular class. One Fall Dance Show and one Spring Dance Show are required. Some rehearsals and performances will be after school, in the evenings and on weekends. As opportunities become available dancers and their parents will be informed. When performance information is released a student and parent signature form will be sent home for both to sign indicating the dancers availability. Dancers are expected to follow through with their commitment if they indicate they are available. However, if at the time the information is released, a prior commitment is already scheduled and Mrs. Ricker is notified, the dancer will be excused. Dance 4 members will consider their daily class a rehearsal. Absence from a rehearsal may result in an ineligibility to perform in a dance or possibly a show. For example, re-blocking would be unfair to the rest of the class. A parent must contact the director if a dancer does not attend school or will miss a rehearsal or performance. This will help prepare needed adjustments. Dancers must dress in a black short sleeve leotard, black tights and black jazz shoes with their hair securely up and back for every rehearsal. Tan tights and jazz shoes are sometimes required for shows. Dancers are expected to replace these items if they are lost, stolen or damaged. A fundraiser will be provided to help the dancer earn money to purchase and replace these items. Trust between the director, dancer and parent is essential, especially during co-curricular activities such as dance rehearsals and performances. The dancer and parent must trust the director has the knowledge and experience necessary to organize and direct dance rehearsals and performances. The director must trust the dancer will follow directions, stay quiet in assigned areas, dress properly for dances and be ready to perform when asked. Dancers, themselves, will be held responsible and accountable for their actions. They are expected to communicate with the director regarding situations that may affect their performance eligibility. The rights of other dancers and the success of programs are in jeopardy when these trusts are questioned. If the director feels a dancer has behaved inappropriately, the dancer will be asked to sit out the remainder of the rehearsal or performance and disciplinary action may result.
