PO Box 13, Chillicothe, IL. 61523-0013 Webmaster Tim Vik - webmaster@chillisportsmen.org CONTACTS If you have any questions or concerns about your Club you may contact any Club Officer listed below or any board member. Additional volunteers are also needed to assist with this & other programs on Saturday, August 27. To volunteer call - Maria Geiger @ (309) 274-6823. Improper Targets: It has been repeatedly stated in past issues of this newsletter that certain types of items are not proper targets. This information is also reflected in the Club By-Laws and Range Rules. Target Placement: The Board has also received complaints on Richoet s from rounds fired on different ranges impacting on adjacent ranges while other club members are shooting there. Please place your target high enough off of the ground and at the backstop to minimize the possibility of low fired rounds creating a problem on another range. 2017 WORK HOURS Remember Work Hours fees has been increased to $15.00, for every work hour not worked in 2017, when you have to pay your membership renewal fees for 2018. Work includes cleaning the Indoor Range and the Main Hall, Entrance Area, Restrooms, Windows, etc. Questions call Bob Bjerke @ (309) 692-1800. WHAT IS BULLS-EYE? Bulls-eye is a great place to start in competitive pistol shooting. It is challenging and yet the best way to learn and master the fundamental skills of pistol marksmanship that will help in all other competitive pistol disciplines. Course of fire consists of firing slow, timed, and rapid fire. This is done at 50 yards and 25 yards outdoors, and at 50 feet indoors. Generally an outdoor match will consist of 30 shots slow fire at 50 yards (3 10-shot strings, 10 minutes per string), 30 shots timed fire at 25 yards (6 5-shot strings, 20 seconds per string), 30 shots rapid fire at 25 yards (6 5-shot strings, 10 seconds per string). This match consists of 90-shots for a possible aggregate total of 900 points. An indoor match is the same course of fire all at 50 feet with reduced targets. For a 2700 aggregate this match is fired once with each gun:.22 caliber rim-fire, center-fire, and.45 caliber. To get started all you need is:.22 caliber rim-fire pistol with two magazines, 100 rounds of ammunition, and eye and hearing protection. Targets are supplied for a small fee ($5 members, $6 non-members) Bulls-eye pistol practice is open to members and non-members. New shooters are always welcome. No registration needed. The outdoor range will be open May to September on the 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6:00 PM. The indoor range will be open October to April on the 2nd and 4th Thursday at 6:00PM. Check the CSC newsletter or calendar for any changes in dates and times. For more information, contact: Jeff Payne at (309)264-2276 or Scott Kirchner at (309) 256-3881. HUNTER EDUCATION

Hunter Education is a important way of passing on the American Hunting Tradition and Gun Ownership Rights. The last few years has seen a major drop in the number of students enrolling in the class. Anyone born on or after January 1, 1980, must take a hunter education course in order to purchase their first Real (Adult) hunting license in Illinois. This class is required in all 50 states, with the age varying from state to state, with Colorado s being on January 1, 1949, so maybe adults also need this course. There will be a class at the Chillicothe Sportsmen s Club in August. The 13 hour course, which is free, will be held over 3 days, meeting from 6:00 9:30 PM on Thursday, August 10, 6:00 9:30 PM on Friday, August 11, and from 8:00 to 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 12. Our next class will be October 12, 13, & 14, 2017 For more information about the course, and to reserve a seat, since space is limited, contact the coordinating instructor, Lowell Bennett, at (309) 274-5586. CLUB OPERATIONS There have been discussions on the amount of money that has been spent on long needed club improvements by the Board in the last year, so a short report on how your club ended up for the year 2106. Yes, we hit the savings account hard to make those improvements. To start with, it is no longer the old club from days past, but has had to be run as a business for several years.
