FISH BITES MIAMI MARLINS (22-32) RHP Tom Koehler (3-3, 4.01) at COLORADO ROCKIES (24-28) RHP Eddie Butler (3-5, 4.22) COORS FIELD, DENVER, CO Friday, June 5, 2015 8:40 P.M. ET The Marlins open a six-game road swing with the first of three games against the Colorado Rockies tonight at 8:40 ET. RHP Tom Koehler is making his fourth career start and appearance against the Rockies, going 1-0 with a 2.14 ERA. He has gone 7.0 innings in each of his previous three starts, with each game being decided by two-or-fewer runs. The Rockies are sending out Eddie Butler, who is making his first career start against the Fish. Following this series, Miami s road swing will continue north of the border, with the Marlins taking on the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game set from Monday-Wednesday. Miami comes into this trip off a quick three-game homestand that saw the Fish take two of three from the Chicago Cubs, and is now 5-5 in its last 10 games. VS. THE ROCKIES The Marlins claimed the 2014 series, 4-3, taking three of four at Marlins Park and one of three at Coors Field. Since 2012, the Fish are 6-5 in the Mile High City, but have gone just 36-54 all-time in Denver. Overall, Miami leads the all-time series, 91-87. In eight career games against the Rox, Marcell Ozuna has hit in all eight career games against Colorado, batting.469 (15x32) with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Giancarlo Stanton has launched 11 home runs against the Rockies, while batting at a.336 clip (38x113) with 12 doubles and 36 RBI in 31 games; his streak of seven straight games with an RBI against the Rockies is tied with Jay Bruce (vs. HOU) and Ryan Braun (vs. TOR) for the longest active streak in the Majors vs. one opponent. WEDNESDAY NIGHT Miami took the rubber match from the Chicago Cubs with a 7-3 win at Marlins Park. The Fish sent nine men to the plate in a four-run, six-hit second inning, with runs coming home on a double by J.T. Realmuto and singles by Adeiny Hechavarria, Dee Gordon and Martin Prado. In the fifth, Miami scored two more runs on back-to-back home runs by Giancarlo Stanton and Jeff Baker, the second time that pair has gone back-to-back in the last five games. The Cubs scored three in the sixth to cut the lead to three, but Miami added an insurance run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single from Prado. Dan Haren picked up his sixth win of the season, allowing three runs on six hits (one home run) and two walks while striking out three in 5.2 innings. TODAY S TRANSACTIONS The Marlins today designated C Jhonatan Solano for assignment and reinstated C Jeff Mathis from the 15-day disabled list. Mathis went on the DL with a fractured bone in his right hand on April 13. In nine rehab games between Triple-A New Orleans and Double-A Jacksonville, he went 5x27 with a double and two RBI. MILE HIGH MASTERY Only five times at Coors Field has a Marlins starting pitcher gone 7.0+ innings and allowed three-or-fewer runs while issuing no walks, and the last two belong to Tom Koehler. In his first career start at Coors, he allowed one run in 7.0 innings on July 22, 2013, and his second outing saw him surrender three runs in 7.0 innings on August 23, 2014. - Stats LLC SINGLES SEASON The Fish rank second among National League teams with 358 singles, trailing the Giants 366. Individually, Dee Gordon leads the Majors with 69 singles, while Martin Prado ranks fifth in the National League with 50. However, Miami ranks last in the National League with just 122 extra-base hits. Only one team in MLB has fewer; the Chicago White Sox with 114. B2B SOLUTIONS Giancarlo Stanton and Jeff Baker connected for back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning of Wednesday s game against the Cubs. It marked the second time the duo went back-to-back in the last five games, also doing so in the ninth inning against the Mets on May 30 at Citi Field. It marked the second time this season that a set of teammates connected for consecutive back-to-back occurrences, as Prince Fielder and Adrian Beltre went back-to-back on May 15 and again on May 25 for the Rangers. - Stats LLC ROAD SHOW As a team, the Marlins are batting.261 on the road, marking the fourth-highest road average in the Majors (third in the National League), behind San Francisco (.286), Kansas City (.275) and Arizona (.269). Dee Gordon has the third-best road average in the Majors at.371 (39x105), while Adeiny Hechavarria ranks fourth in the National League (sixth in the Majors) with a.360 mark (32x89). LEADING THE CHARGE It took Giancarlo Stanton 10 games to record his first home run of the season, connecting off Dillon Gee on April 16 at Citi Field. Since that date, Stanton leads the Majors with 17 home runs, ahead of Bryce Harper (16), Joc Pederson (16) and Josh Donaldson (15). Stanton is tied for third in the Majors in home runs this season with Pederson, behind Nelson Cruz (18) and Harper (18). CLEARING FENCES REGULARLY On Wednesday night, Giancarlo Stanton connected for his 171 st career home run in just his 687 th career game played. He has the fifth-highest home run total through a player s first 687 games in Major League history. Ryan Howard stroked 207 through his first 687 to pace all hitters. See complete list at right. - Stats LLC LEADING ROLE Dee Gordon leads the Majors with 81 hits and a.368 average. The Marlins club mark for batting average prior to the break is.369, by Luis Castillo in 2000, when he had 96 hits in 260 at bats. The Marlins record for most hits prior to the All-Star break is 117, done twice, by Juan Pierre (95 games) in 2003 and Hanley Ramirez (86 games) in 2007.
